ARGON
“How is she?” Jerome asked.
I had stepped out of Estelle’s room to answer my Beta’s call. It was already late and he needed to know how things were going.
“She’s getting better. All she needs is rest and more care, ” I shared with Jerome, stealing one glance into the room.
Estelle was already sleeping while the maid sat next to the bed, watching over her.
“That’s good.”
“Yeah, we’re happy that she’s all better.”
“Still, I’m surprised she tried to end her life. Did Alpha Deron tell you why? ” He asked.
Sighing out, I drew away from the room so I could talk to my Beta without any interruption.
“Well, according to him, it’s because of Brielle’s presence. You know how Estelle gets whenever she sees Brielle, even when she doesn’t bother us. Alpha Deron believes her presence in my home is what led Estelle to commit such an act.”
“For real?”
“Yeah, and now he wants me to get rid of her for Estelle’s sake.” I drew further away from the room.
“Will you do as he wants?” Jerome asked.
I scoffed and refused to do such. “Not until I’ve gotten back my life. They can only get what they want after my wedding to Estelle. That’s the day I can tell if Brielle will give me back my position or if I’ll remain ruined.”
Sighing, I leaned against a wall which was close to the entrance of the hospital, rubbing my forehead in frustration.
“Honestly, Jerome. I feel so troubled about everything. Yesterday our business partners abandoned me. Brielle still doesn’t want to talk to me because of what happened. I just don’t know what the future holds for me,” I complained, sharing my frustration to my Beta.
On hearing my worries, Jerome assured me that all would be fine. “Don’t give up, Alpha. I know you’re going to get everything back. I believe in you, ” He supported.
“Thank you, Jerome. This is why I picked you as my Beta. You are always supporting me.”
“It’s my duty as your Beta, after all. I made a promise to stand by you until the end, and I’m not going to leave you, ” He promised, showing his loyalty to me.
I smiled, humming at his words.
After having a talk with my Beta and telling him about my meet up with the Lycan king, I decided to head home.
“There’s a maid watching over Estelle. I’ll be on my way.”
“Alright, Alpha. Be safe.”
“Sure, ” I said, ending the call with my Beta.
I returned to Estelle’s room to tell the maid I was leaving. She listened, promising to let Estelle know when she wakes.
“No problem,” I said, taking my leave.
On my way to the car, I noticed a florist store close by. I didn’t even know it was there until I saw a couple passing by with flowers in their hands. That’s how I spotted the florist shop around the corner.
I was thinking of getting one for Estelle tomorrow when coming, but my heart skipped at the sight of a rare and beautiful green rose flower.
It took my mind to Brielle, remembering what she said about the color green and how she likes it.
“Maybe I should get this for her, ” I decided, getting closer to the store and buying the green rose.
“It’s a rare flower. Your wife would feel so special when you give her this, ” The florist said, handing the flower to me.
I thought about what she said and felt it was the best thing to get Brielle. “When she sees it, she’ll have no choice but to forgive me for what happened. This is good.”
Thanking the florist, I took the flower and got into my car, heading out of Red wood pack.
After a long drive, I arrived back at the mansion, taking the flower into my hold.
“You can do this,” I encouraged myself, puffing out air from my mouth.
All set and ready to face Brielle, I got out of the car and went into the mansion. I didn’t branch anywhere else but went straight to Brielle’s room, hoping this gift of mine won’t be in vain.
When I got to her room, I found Brielle going through a magazine meant for wedding decorations. She went through it with seriousness, ticking the ones she found appealing.
To make myself known, I hid the flower behind my back and knocked on the door. That got her attention.
Brielle lifted her head and saw me at the door. Her brow came lifting, saying nothing to me.
“Hey, ” I said, smiling while stepping into the room. “How are you? ” I asked, drawing nearer to the bed.
Brielle didn’t answer me. All she did was hum at my presence, face the magazine, and resume with her work.
My smile faded, leaving me bothered. I was beginning to doubt the gift, feeling she’d reject it.
“You can never tell. Just do it,” I persuaded myself, pushing on.
Clearing my throat, I said, drawing closer to the bed, “I was heading home and came across a store.”
Carefully, I pulled the green rose from behind and presented it to Brielle. When she saw it, her eyes flashed in surprise.
This bloomed my heart at the sight of her expression. It motivated even more.
“You did say you like green, so I thought giving you this rare flower would be nice. It’s… It’s special, so… Yeah, it’s special,” I said, trying to use the words of the florist.
I still had the flower in my hold, until Brielle took it from me, with her hand brushing against mine.
And the moment our hands came in contact, I felt my whole body vibrate. My heart skipped, feeling that same wave traveling around my body.
It felt so… So good.
“Waw, I didn’t know we had green rose flowers. This is beautiful,” She admired, letting out a smile.
“Yeah, I was surprised as well. It’s a beauty,” I commented with a smile, so she’d see that I really care.
Brielle took a sniff of the flower, looking so happy. Her pretty smiles left a sudden spark in me, making it hard for me to maintain my gaze on her.
I took my eyes away from her point, feeling hot, until she finally said, “Thank you, Argon. This flower is nice.”
That made me happy. My lips came curving to the side, as I faced Brielle and saw her attending to the rose with care.
It worked out fine. She’s no longer angry with me.
“So, should I take this gift as your way of buying my forgiveness or what? ”
“Huh? ” I was stunned by what Brielle said.
She dropped her gaze on me with a smirk across her face, saying, “You have never given me a gift or even a flower before. So, for you to get me this flower, and not just a red or white rose, a green rose, shows you want something from me.”
“Want something? No, ” I chuckled, trying to deny the truth.
“I didn’t get it because of that. I… I just saw it and…”
“Argon,” She called my name, interrupting me. Her smirk didn’t fade off. She still had it on.
Placing the flower aside, Brielle said, “I know why you got this flower. I am not stupid. I told you the Brielle of old is no more. I am a completely different person.”
I stood there, feeling my heart racing. It was as if I was standing before a mighty ruler of great standard. And at this point, Brielle has that high rank, since she’s the one who holds my future.
“I know you got this flower to apologize for that day. Well… it’s fine. I have forgiven you.”
“Really?” I was pleased, grinning at Brielle’s words.
“But, we are not going to be friends. Don’t mistake my forgiveness for friendship,” She pointed out, staring with seriousness.
That wiped the joy I was feeling in my heart.
“I don’t wish to be friends with you, nor do I plan on being a part of your life any more. You know why I’m still in your life instead of heading out there to start a better one. I need to please my late father in-law by giving you a new home. So, we are just two different people who share a father. Let it be that way and nothing else, okay? ” She stamped, lifting her brow at me.
“O… okay, ” I uttered, feeling strange about this new Brielle. She’s so desperate to get me married and leave for good.
She doesn’t want to have anything to do with me, and… I can’t help but feel uncomfortable with this change.
“Now that you’re here, have you and Estelle picked a date? ” She asked, picking up the magazine to resume with her search.
“I’ve seen four nice decorations that will fit the event. I’ll send the best ones to the decorators so they can prepare ahead, ” She said, talking about her plans.
But all what she was saying was passing one ear and out of the other. I wasn’t listening but staring at her.
Brielle has changed.
I changed her.
