“Are you good at it?”
“I’m alright, not as good as my big brother.” Ever since he learned chess, he had never won Sachin before. From this, one could see the difference in their level of skills.
“If I knew that earlier, I should have asked Sachin to accompany me instead.”
“Huh?” Corey was confused as to why she said that.
Rosiley smiled. “since Sachin is better than you at chess, he should be able to match up to Old Chen.”
Corey was stunned. “sister-in-law, are you asking me to have a chess match with Old Chen?”
Rosiley smiled but didn’t utter a single word, concealing her intentions within.
Corey was speechless. “sister-in-law, you have too high a regard for me. How did you even come up with the idea of having me play chess with Old Chen?”
Rosiley’s brows raised up as she replied, “You should understand that we have to adapt to his hobbies to make us closer. Surely that’s beneficial to us.”
“Adapt to his hobbies?!”
“Yes.” Rosiley patted his shoulders. “Old Chen loves to play chess. We shall play chess with him while we talk business.”
That was why Rosiley was full of confidence. If Corey could win this old man who had no worthy opponents for chess in his neighborhood, perhaps there would be some chance for them.
Corey was an intelligent man. He understood what she meant but he had his concerns.
“sister-in-law, I cannot promise you that I will win.”
“Don’t worry. Even if we lose, I won’t blame you.” Rosiley comforted him.
Rosiley was unaffected by his concerns. After all, she never expected him to win this chess maniac obsessed with the game.
As usual, Old Chen sat in the pavilion to play chess, completely oblivious to Rosiley’s arrival.
Rosiley and Corey were observing Old Chen’s strategies. After a while, Old Chen had obliterated his opponents, causing him to surrender in disgrace.
With the final “checkmate”, Old Chen won the game easily.
“Old Chen, your skills improved a lot. No one in the neighborhood can win you now.”
“Precisely, I don’t even dare to play chess with you. I have lost 10 consecutive games and I am so embarrassed.”
“Old Chen, since you are so amazing, will you be willing to take my grandson as a disciple?”
“Old Chen…”
Surrounding him, the bystanders spoke to each other and to Old Chen. Some spoke sarcastically, obviously jealous of Old Chen. However, Old Chen smiled calmly and was unaffected.
One could see that Old Chen was an extremely graceful and polite man.
Rosiley raised her brows and elbowed Corey. The latter turned around to look at her, where she signaled him to play chess with Old Chen.
Even though Corey was extremely disagreeable, he still sat next to Old Chen. Once he sat down, those sarcastic voices died down.
Old Chen looked at the handsome young man opposite him and asked, “You are?”
Corey smiled. “I heard that you are a master at chess and hence I came to learn from you.”
Someone beside him immediately added on once he spoke. “Young man, it turns out that you were asking about Old Chen yesterday because you want to learn from him!”
Corey looked over and saw an old lady over 60 years old. She seemed a little familiar as she should be someone he met yesterday.
He laughed dryly as he agreed, “Yes, yes, I want to learn from Old Chen.”
“Damn, why are old ladies here too? Will I attract a group of them later?”
