“You were here yesterday?” Old Chen asked as he judged Corey.
Corey replied affirmatively. “I also came over the day before yesterday, but you did not wish to see me.”
“The day before yesterday?” Old Chen frowned and pondered about it before asking a question to test him. “What is the relationship between you and Seneca?”
Corey smiled and answered, “His daughter is my sister-in-law.”
“You are from the Ji family.” Old Chen’s face turned cold instantly.
Corey was speechless.
How could this Old Master assume that he was from the Ji family?
Actually, he could not blame Old Chen for this mistake. After all, in Old Chen’s memory, Seneca’s birth daughter Rosiley was not married yet, with only his step-daughter Rorey married to Rosiley’s ex-fiance Yunis.
Hence, when Corey said that Seneca’s daughter was his sister-in-law, he naturally assumed that he meant Rorey, which would make Corey someone from the Ji family.
Corey coughed slightly and explained, “Old Master, I was referring to Rosiley, Seneca’s birth daughter.”
“Rosiley?” Old Chen was suspicious. “Isn’t she still single?”
“She’s married, but she kept it a secret from the public.” Corey turned around to look at Rosiley subconsciously. She pursed her lips and walked over, calling out crisply, “Uncle Chen.”
Hearing that, Old Chen lifted up his head. When he saw Rosiley, his eyes lit up in excitement as he called out, “Rosiley.”
Rosiley smiled gently. “Yes, it’s me.”
Then, she walked in front of Corey and said, “Uncle Chen, I think you should know the purpose of my visit today. Even though you told me about your decision the day before yesterday, I wanted to come and try again.”
She was direct and spoke her intentions freely.
Old Chen smiled helplessly. “Rosiley, why are you doing this?”
Rosiley took a deep breath. With her lips curled up into a smile, she replied, “Uncle Chen, Group is the heart and soul of my father. I will not allow it to fall into the hands of those malicious fellows.”
She was only about 20 years old, but she was extremely calm and mature. Old Chen was ambivalent; he did not know if he should feel glad or sympathetic.
“sigh!” Old Chen sighed loudly before asking, “What do you want to do?”
Even though Old Chen was old, he had a clear mind. He knew that she had come prepared today.
“Uncle Chen, play chess with him.” Rosiley pointed towards Corey. “If he wins, then promise to stand with me.”
Old Chen stared at Corey with calm eyes that completely hid his emotions.
Corey raised his brows slightly, for he knew that Old Chen was not a simple man.
After a long while, Old Chen nodded. “Sure, I will promise you as long as he wins.”
Initially, Rosiley was afraid that he would not agree. When he had agreed, a brilliant smile crept up her tiny face, as bright and shiny as the azure sky after rain.
“Thank you, Uncle Chen.” Her voice was trembling with excitement.
“There is no need to thank me now. Win first.”
Old Chen immediately started placing his chess pieces onto the board. Corey had already finished placing his.
This was a bet concerning the future of his sister-in-law. He knew that he could not lose.
since he knew that Old Chen was at least as skilled as his big brother, Corey used 200% of his concentration in this match.
However, the result was unexpected.
30 minutes later, amidst everyone’s excited yells, Corey won.
On the chessboard, Old Chen’s white king was lonely, with no other pieces protecting it. Corey used his knight and rook to put it in checkmate.
