Finn POV.
“I don’t understand why are you crying?” I ask my sister confused, she’s a softie, she cries easily, and today is a bad day, I didn’t want our parents to see her crying, they are good and nice and all, but if they find out she’s crying about something stupid, which she most probably is crying about, they wouldn’t be so nice or soft on her, favourite or not, dad isn’t raising a softie, he’s raising a bad bitch.
“I’m not crying,” My older sister lies to me, I’m only fourteen but I can easily read her, I know when she’s crying for real, and when she’s just tired, she’s lying about being tired, something made her cry.
“Liar, did someone hurt you? You just have to tell me and I’ll deal with them,” I say meaning every word I have said, I’ll be there for my sister, older or younger, she’s my sibling and I’ll take care of her.
“No one hurt me,” she says, and I believed her, but as I said she’s sensitive.
“Then did someone say something that made you feel hurt?” I asked her in a soft tone, I didn’t want her to think that I was making fun or teasing her, well I’m most days, but today I’m being nice to her and I’m worried.
“It’s stupid,” she says in a low voice and I knew she was ready to tell me all about it.
“Oh no baby, it’s not stupid if it made you cry, you can tell your brother,” I say giving her a side hug, she came home an hour ago and has been crying for forty minutes now.
“I met this new guy,” she said and I sighed, I knew that it must have included a guy, she’s not good with guys, and she never had a boyfriend before, mom and I were worried about her first boyfriend experience and how it would go, and seeing how she’s acting, I knew we were in for a rough ride, I nodded and tried to stay calm listening to her talk.
“Yes, what did he do?” I ask her.
“Nothing, he’s different Finn, he got very dark eyes, and they are captivating,” she starts.
“That’s a demon, stay away from it,” I say in a firm voice and she giggles, I didn’t want her to keep on crying, and if a bit of sarcasm would wipe that frown away, then it’s fine with me.
“I don’t think he’s a demon but he has a weird aura to him, they called him boss,” she says.
“Maybe he’s a mafia boss,” I suggest and she nods agreeing with me and we both chuckle.
“It’s not that, but I have met this other guy in school, and I think he likes me,” she says, so we went from one guy to two this quickly.
“Sweetie, you’re not familiar with having crushes, maybe start with one first,” I say needing her to go slowly.
“Finn, I didn’t mean it, it just happened, and it’s not that, but Theo got really mad, it scared me,” she says, so we got Theo and Demon Guy.
“Let me understand this, a guy from school you have a crush on and he has a crush back, Theo?” I ask her and she nods.
“And we got Demon guy right?” I ask her and she nods again.
“You have a crush on both guys, but Theo was mad that you had a crush on Demon guy?” I say trying to understand everything.
“I didn’t have a crush on Demon guy, but he had this weird aura, and I didn’t know how to act, and then The was so mad and he acted weird,” she says.
“Stella, how weird?” I ask her worried about my sister what kind of guy is she having a crush on?
“I don’t know, he was just a bit angry, and he said he wanted to leave, so we left the place, that’s all,” she says, so not too weird.
“Stella, he’s jealous, I need to meet that guy,” I say in a firm voice, I don’t trust her judgment when it comes to guys, she didn’t have a lot of experience.
“Finn, you’re my younger brother,” she whines.
“I’m your brother, I know better,” I say in a firm voice deciding not to let this go.
“What are you two doing here?” Dad asks coming into Stella’s room where we’ve been hanging out.
“Reminding Stella that I’m her brother and it’s my job to keep her safe,” I say to dad.
“Dad, tell him he’s my younger brother, he doesn’t need to keep me safe,” Stella whines.
“He’s your brother, his job is to keep you safe, good job Finn, keep doing so,” dad says to me and I smile with confidence.
“Dad, I’m old enough to take care of myself,” she whines.
“We’re your family, we take care of each other,” Dad says in a firm voice.
“Thanks, dad,” I say happily, we need to take care of her.
“Come down to dinner,” he says, so that’s why he came into the room, to call us down.
We both went down to dinner, she pushed her food around not really eating, I looked at her with worry, we go to the same school, maybe I can manage to spend some extra time with her in school and meet this guy Theo.
After we finished eating our food, we decided to hang out in the living room, I went to mom and told her about Stella’s new adventures, we needed to keep an eye on her, we can’t count on dad, he’d forbid her of talking to any kind of guy or even date, she’s his baby girl.
“Did you hear that?” Stella says her eyes going wild, we looked at her and shook our heads no, we didn’t hear anything.
“There’s nothing out there Stella,” mom says with a shrug.
“I swear I heard it,” she says again, her eyes locked on the door.
“I’ll go and check,” I say getting up, ready to play the strong brother role.
“No, what if something eats you?” Stella says worriedly looking at me with fear filling her eyes now.
“Stella, nothing is going to eat me, this is one of the safest countries out there,” I assure her.
“You don’t know that,” she says with confidence.
“I do, we learned that in school today, you know,” I say with a shrug, we did learn that today, this country, and this town to be exact hardly have any crime rate, maybe a couple scamming here and there, but that’s about it.
I got to the door and opened it, I walked out taking a couple of steps toward the woods, and there was nothing, I know Stella is worried about bears, but there’s nothing out there, she followed me of course, she was terrified of the animals but she’s out here with me.
“Why are you out here?” I asked her, she should be inside hiding.
“I’m not going to let anything eat you,” she says and I roll my eyes at her, right she’s here to save me.
“Wow thank you for saving me from nothing, let’s go in, it’s cold,” I say turning toward the door and pushing her inside the house, I heard a noise coming from my left, I looked there right away and noticed that there are eyes in the dark, looking at me, they weren’t human’s blue eyes that shine in the dark, they looked like a cat’s eyes, maybe it’s just a cat, that’s what we heard.
“Did you see anything?” Stella asks me worried.
“It’s a cat,” I say with an eye roll, pushing her inside the house again, and closing the door behind me, it’s just a cat, a pretty cat, one that I wanted to go out and play with, but I knew better than playing with some stray cat.
We went to our rooms and got ready to sleep, my new school isn’t that bad, everyone is welcoming, and I became the cool kid right away after telling them that I’m American of origin, no one has ever been there and they were very interested in me. I don’t understand why Stella is so mad at moving, it’s fun to start our lives in a new country, to start a new adventure, to spend time with new people, and get to know them, I felt like this place was my home, and I felt safe as soon as we made it here.
I got ready for bed, I put on my PJ, just an old pair of sweats and then I got in bed, I tried to sleep, but I couldn’t sleep right away, I shifted and flipped in the bed a million time, I got out of the bed and walked toward the window, I don’t have a window seat like my sister does, I had to stand near the window and looked out toward the woods, watching the whole place, I was looking for the cat, but it wasn’t out there, I couldn’t see it of course, that would be very stupid, I groaned at myself and went back to bed ready to force myself to sleep this time.
My sleep was filled with dreams, I never dreamt but ever since we moved into this country, I’ve been dreaming, everything is so vivid outside that even my brain has adapted to it and decided to start having vivid dreams. Today’s dream was filled with wolves, I don’t know why it’s wolves, I was thinking about the cat that I just saw, but instead, I dreamt of a wolf with the same blue eyes, the wolf called to me and I ran toward it, hugging the wolf, kissing the wolf, burying my face into his neck, the wolf looked up at me angrily when I thought of it to be a he, maybe it’s a she, when I thought that the wolf nodded and went back to cuddling.
I felt warmth, more warmth than I did when I went to sleep, I tried to move in my bed, I move a lot while sleeping, and today was just like any other day, but I felt pinned down to my bed, I had a very heavy blanket on me, I don’t remember having this one when I slept, maybe mom decided to add one on top of me.
I tried to move again, but the blanket was so warm and cosy, I couldn’t help but fall back to sleep, ready to dream about my wolf with blue eyes, she’s mine now, even if it’s just through the dreams.
I woke up the next morning in the bed with the same blankets I had fallen asleep with, I looked around searching for the mystery blanket, but I couldn’t find it anywhere, maybe mom moved it? I got out of the bed and went toward the bathroom, I loved the fact that we don’t share anymore, I got to use my own bathroom, I changed into my school uniform, and left my room to meet with the rest.
“Hey, mom, did you add any duvet on me?” I asked her, I loved it, I want to use it again.
“No, why were you, cold baby?” Mom asks me worried.
“No, I’m fine,” I say maybe it was all a dream, I took a seat in the kitchen and looked out through the window looking for my lost cat, or maybe a wolf.
“Mom, my friend is coming over, she’ll give us a drive,” my sister says.
“Who’s the friend?” I ask her.
“Calesti, you want a ride?” she asks me.
“Yes,” I say, of course, I did need a ride to school.
“She’s almost here, let’s go,” Stella says walking toward the door, I didn’t have my breakfast yet, so I picked something on the go and followed her toward the car.
“Hey, Calesti, this is my brother, Finn,” she introduced me, and I met the blond girl who’s my sister’s friend, and she had the bluest eyes ever, my wolf/cat blue eyes, I felt like my world was finally completed.
