Cade and Ophelia had their meal and they were on their way. Cade was still insisting on taking Ophelia home but she was adamant about it.
“If you try to take me home you will be stuck in traffic and you might even get there late. Knowing the kind of person that my dad is, he would not think you are serious if you get there later than him. You can get there and wait for him” Ophelia said.
She wanted to have her alone time but she was more concerned about him getting there before her dad that was the only way he would be moved to think of helping her.
“Okay then, I will have to wait till the driver gets here before I leave,” he said standing beside her. The car came into view a few moments later and she was on her way home. She prayed to every deity she knew that her dad was in a good mood and that they would be able to resolve the issue promptly. She prayed for him as well that he would know how to handle her dad. She only took twenty per cent of her father’s attitude at least in her opinion.
MEANWHILE
Cade arrived at the station a few minutes early and decided to wait in the car till he saw Carter’s car pull up. He had not had the chance to meet with Carter one-on-one. Every time they were in the same room someone else was with them. He watched him come down and then he came down and hurried to him.
“Hello Mr Frost” Cade said coming to stand beside him.
“Cade?” Carter said catching a glimpse of him from the side. “You are here,” Carter’s tone was soft, not the way Ophelia had described it. Cade wondered if Ophelia just had a magnified image of her father’s problem because she was closer to him.
They walked into the station and Carter said little to nothing but grunted occasionally like he was in pain. Two men who were probably bodyguards followed closely behind them. They got into the commissioner officer and the man stood up to greet him. It was obvious from the stares and the salutes that Carter got while they walked into the station that he was a man who commanded a lot of respect there.
“Mr Frost” the commissioner said meeting them at the door. “You did not have to make the trip down here I could have come to meet you” the man said ushering them into the room. The two men stayed outside and the door was shut close leaving the three in the room.
“How can I make the country’s commissioner come see me? I should be the one to come” Carter said dismissing the man as they sat.
“Oh please you flatter me, you are one of the reasons why our nation has such a good reputation in crime fighting. You are constantly supporting us” the man praised. Cade could sense a very strong sense of admiration from this man as he spoke.
“You speak too highly of me” Carter replied. Cade began to wonder what kind of work Carter did with the police to get such recognition. He would have understood if it was a private firm but a government-owned body. It made no sense whatsoever. Cade knew that he had no luxury to think about those things. He was in there because he needed help he could try to think about the role this man played later but not now.
“What can I offer you?” the man asked Cade drawing his attention back to the gathering. Cade could not believe he had allowed thoughts to fill his mind and get distracted.
He shifted in his chair and cleared his throat. “Just water would be fine,” Cade said.
The man stood up went to his table and pressed the intercom before speaking into it. “Get a glass of water, a cup of black tea and a cup of coffee” he released the button and came back to sit down. They sat in silence as if they were waiting for the right time to speak.
“So that we do not take up any of your time, let us get straight into it” Carter said shifting to the edge of his seat.
“Yes,” the commissioner replied mirroring his actions.
“This here is my son-in-law, say hello” Carter turned to Cade gesturing to him to greet the man.
“I am Cade Vale, nice to meet you,” Cade said and the man nodded.
“Mr Frost you are embarrassing me, of course, I know your son-in-law, I was at the wedding,” the man said and both of them burst into laughter while nodding their head and smiling.
“I have brought him here so you need to help him, I trust that you would take care of him as you have of me in the past few years,” Carter said.
“Of course” the man replied Carter before turning to Cade and asking “What brings you here today?”
“Explain it all without leaving anything out” Carter said when Cade took his time to speak.
Cade felt a bit comfortable after narrating the experience and a few questions from the man to him. “I am so sorry about that,” the man said after hearing the entire story. “I have to apologize on behalf of my offices for negligence”
“It is fine” Cade muttered.
“But not to worry, I will escalate the issue and have a warrant issued immediately to have us track the number down and I am sure we will soon have headway” the man assured.
“How long do you think the process will take?” Carter asked.
“I will try to compress it to a week and make sure that you get a positive feedback soon”
“Okay then, I knew that I could count on you to help,” Carter said. They said goodbyes and they were at the parking lot of the station soon.
“Cade?” Carter called as they parted ways to go to their cars.
“Let us have a family dinner one of these days, tell your grandfather”
“Okay sir” Cade said wondering why this man wanted to do that.
