“Fake?” Cade asked wondering why she would call her fake after only having a few minutes.
“Are you telling me you could not see it?” she asked wondering why he was shocked by her statement.
“She only invited you to a party, which you agreed to go so how could she be fake?” he asked.
She shook her head and sat on the couch beside him. “Men always baffle me” she said rolling her eyes. “How could it be so difficult for you to spot how fake she was being?” she added and shifted so she could rest her back on the couch.
“How can she be busy with party preparation when we never plan our parties by ourselves?” she asked trying to list out everything she found to be fake about her. “And if she was truly busy why does she have time to be shopping for a dress? and why here?” she asked.
Cade stared at her, he did not have all the answers she was looking for and quite frankly he did not care about the answers, he wanted to divert the topic back to why they were there but seeing that she was immersed in the discussion she was having with herself he did not think that a change of topic wold is the best option for him.
“And why did she say we are family? Was she trying to intentionally piss you off? Do you think she is working with Cael?” Ophelia asked. The scruffle between the two brothers would certainly not be hidden from her if she was truly with Cael and this was not some kind of childish scam.
“Because she might be getting married to him?” Cade finally answered. That was the first question, he seemed to have a reasonable answer to.
“I am so annoyed” she said kicking her legs in the air.
Cade waited for a while before speaking, he wanted her to get everything off her chest so that it was not like he was trying to be unreasonable with her. “So which of the clothes will you be picking?” he asked as she sat there.
“None,” she said crossing her hand across her chest with a pout on her face.
Cade could not understand her response. If he was going to shop for clothes for himself, he would pick whatever the staff recommended and luckily for him he always looked good in them.
“What do you mean by none?” he asked and she shook her head.
“I don’t know,” she said in a cartoonish voice.
“What do you mean you don’t know? Don’t you like any of the clothes?” he asked.
“I like them but they are not giving off that special effect I am searching for” she said now annoyed with herself. She was now seeing the reason she was not picking any dress.
Cade had kept a straight face throughout her changing process and barely commented on any of the dresses. She hated that the clothes she liked had little to no effect on him. He should be staring. ‘It is not like I am trying to seduce him or whatever’ she told herself as the thought of being attractive in his eyes clouded her mind.
‘I just think that I would only want to wear clothes that would make heads turn when they see me’ she told herself again. She was making excuses for herself or else she knew that she would not feel any better. She was angry at herself now even more that she had to make up excuses that did nit exist just because of him. ‘How special is he?’
“Do you want to keep searching? We still have a little time together” he suggested.
Normally she would have jumped at the idea of searching for more clothes because that was one of the things she loved doing but now that he suggested it and she liked it, she did not know but she suddenly did not like the idea again.
“I think I will pass that up, maybe I should just go home,” she said standing up and packing the stuff that she had littered into her purse and holding it to her body.
“I will drop you off then” he said standing up.
“If you do that then you might be late for your meeting with Dad” she said concerned about him. Her dad was very prickly and could do funny things at times. She did not want him to miss out on the opportunity to get the case resolved so sending him there early was the best thing to do.
“I still have time” he said looking at his watch again. He had at least three hours to get there. “I can still make a round trip and get there on time”
“What if you encounter traffic? The rush hour would be soon and you know that you can barely avoid it if you go now, so just hang around now and go there when it is time. I am sure I can find my way home from here” she said.
“What of lunch?” he asked. It felt strange to him that they were together and would not eat together. “We have missed lunch hour but there are still places around here that would serve a good meal, I guess we should check them out,” he said rambling on.
“I am not hungry”
“But you haven’t had anything to eat yet, I don’t think you should be skipping any meals,” he said and she nodded.
“That is true but maybe I will prefer a homemade meal instead” she said. She was trying to get away from him why was he trying to proffer situations where they had to be together?
“Do you think I should eat all alone?” he asked before leaning in to whisper. “Especially now that they have seen us together?” he asked glancing at the girls staring at them.
“Let us eat together then” she replied through gritted teeth at him. Why was he acting so daft today?
“What do you want to eat?” he asked her slipping his hands through hers and sending a smile to her.
“Maybe some sushi?”
“I know the perfect place”
