“I have no idea where she is.”
She spoke almost immediately and regretted saying it. It occurred to her that it was best if she had just stayed quiet about the entire matter than saying what she did but like a spilled Milk it was hard for her to take back her words.
He didn’t make it look like he was a niger it anything, what he did was just step aside with a smile on his face as she watched her leave.
To make it all difficult, she had her guilt to contend with even as she burst through the door
“I am not doing this again, just find a way to settle your differences and return to him.”
Tonia, though grateful, looked up to her with a bit of uncertainty.
She doesn’t know what might have made her speak that way and thought it had something to do with having to succumb to her request.
She took the pills from her and popped two In, in a different life Laura thought that the woman could have been her friend but definitely not this, in this life they had a lot against them they were bounded by a common need, a man – Christian.
She could tell that she was feeling drowsy immediately after the pills and though feeling awkward asked for one favor that was out of the ordinary.
“Can I sleep here Tonight?”
****
Try trusting an enemy. It was the same plight with this woman who she didn’t even trust. She slept with her boy’s – Laura.
Her eyes were open all night as she kept on thinking about that moment, the dark moment Tonia might strangle them in their sleep.
Good thing it never happened as when she woke Tonia was gone.
She sighed and got the boys ready for school while doing that on her path as well.
Dropping off, she drives off to work as well, not able to get the thought of the previous night out of her head.
She stopped over at a Cafe for cappuccino just to get her day going and it took three cups to clear off the fascinations that were at the back of her mind.
She got going after all of the drama that was going on . She arrived at work late, the meeting was in full swing as she walked in through the swinging doors , everyone looked up as she walked in and Riley still couldn’t understand why she had turned I later than usual.
The meeting ended and it was just the way she thought it would be, with success –
They all shook hands and most people asked why she had arrived late including the investor’s.
“My car broke down, I had to go fix it.”She spoke quickly ignoring the side gazes she got from Riley
She lied to them and had that reminiscing feeling about it, if anyone believes it was definitely not Riley.
She could tell almost immediately as she had spoken that it wasn’t all about fixing her car but something more.
Laura tried Ignoring another question as she walked out, she had to get herself prepared.
She had just gotten a text from Chris and could tell immediately that he hadn’t bought whatever she had said moment before, and so at that moment the entire situation wasn’t about what she thought was the right thing for that moment but rather she knew facing him had to do mental preparation for what’s coming-she couldn’t afford another slip up.
To make it clear that all of this was true she didn’t go to her car..
She felt her integrity was at stake if she did and it confused her even more when Riley walked up to her as she waited for a cab.
She had ignored the woman all day hoping she’d go, but that didn’t look certain to happen.
She flagged a cab down and walked there slowly.
“We both know you are lying.”She stated immediately she walked up to her.
She couldn’t look at her in the face as she got into the cab.
“I don’t know what you are talking about.”
She answered..
She was put back when Riley got into the cab.
“What are you doing? We are not going the same way.”
She intended to ignore her even more but with the woman in the car it was a lot more difficult.
“Just tell me what happened, don’t look at yourself.”
Once again she knew that all she had to do was ignore her and she’d just stay quiet, she didn’t want her thought to be made more frustrating than it already was but still there was that need for her to do something.
She didn’t know what to do about the entire madness that was going through her head even as she took a deep breath in.
“Guess who was in my room last night?”She asked.
“Chris.”Riley said with a smile.
“Fuck You Riley… Well he was there but you don’t know what else?”. She dragged a breath.
“Tonia was there as well in the most dramatic fashion.”
She seemed surprised at what was and did attempt to ask questions but it was too late as she was already walking away.
She called after her, after paying the driver-She had thought she’d wait but she didn’t as she thought it was best she gave Laura enough time to get over her thoughts.
Instead, she walks back to the building letting the evening air kiss her skin. She breathes slowly, inhaling the crisp air and the deep,
and that but of uncertainty that looked to mask the building.
It was all going crazy at the back of her mind and she tried all she could to stop that feeling of uncertainty that looked to be creeping in, In stark contrast to what she had found earlier.
When she opened inside her room, she readied for a shower.
The heat from the shower is incredible, clearing her mind and washing away the
the chill that was freezing her thought.
She can survive all of this, and she’ll come out the other side better for it.
She tells herself this over as a loud crash filled the room.
