CHAPTER 49

Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Laura stood right there in the middle of the room trying to get her most recent altercation with Rian out of her mind.
She looked back to where he laid on the bed still asleep and wondered to herself if that was what he cared about after all- Sex!
They had started the night most definitely arguing and then it had ended with her having to appease him with sex as well.
She undid the simple braid Riley had helped her with the previous week and let the strands fall off to her back, her eyes seemed a deeper shade than it should have been as she drew in a deep breath.
She brushed back the faint lines of tension showing on either side of her brows and she sighed deeply again.
The truth was that she was tense, as a matter of fact her whole person was- She turned and looked back at him one more time.
She thought it was best she had a shower to help her calm her nerves, as soon as she was in, she turned on the taps, stripped and stepped into the stall.
The water from the faucet did exactly what she had thought it would, she could feel the pounding water beat down on her body, the white noise and rising steam creating a
temporary cocoon and all she did was shut her eyes for a minute as she forced herself to relax, letting her mind drift back to the night they had kissed?
A smile drifted across her face at the memory, her hands ran through her hair, but her memory was short lived when she heard the twins at it fighting over something as usual, she opened her eyes and groaned.
She shivered and realized the water was growing cold. Reaching out, she shut off the faucet and walked back out.
Rian wasn’t on the bed and she walked out hoping that he was with the twins.
“Rian!”She ceased her eyes and looked back at the man that was reading a paper and looking all settled while watching the struggle with themselves.
She felt disgusted by his antics and her eyes toward him, she didn’t hide the fact that she was feeling so displeased.
“Really?”
Slowly he stalked towards the boys and held the two by their ears.”You both are grounded.”
It was still hard to interpret what he had acted that way, but she was incredibly angry. She hastened to offer her heavy thoughts to him.
“Why would you do something like this?”She rolled her eyes while speaking.”I thought you’d be better off with the boys.”She muttered.
“I didn’t mean to cause any harm.”he spoke softly, his efforts had some effect, as she kept her eyes locked on him as a low rumble emitted from her chest.
She felt his muscles tensing around her and her head snapped to look at the man trying to touch her.
“What was he doing? She asked.
“Why are you making a big issue out of this?”He spoke softly.”That is the only way they can become real men.”
“Rian!”She gasped at his audacity. Anxious to move away from him to keep peace, just so she wouldn’t lose that bit of peace she had at that moment-she tried to step back.
Unfortunately, he wouldn’t let her.”Look I am sorry, I am just trying to make things perfect.”
She rubbed her chin thoughtfully as if considering what she was about to do or say, it was all in her head yet looking in his eyes, left her wallowing in thought-or could it be just the inkling of an idea-an idea that had begun to form in her head.
She focused herself as best as she could, pushing through her own feelings of panic and anxiety, instead she held him to a deeper gaze as curiosity spread through her, she sighed and asked the question she had been dying to ask of late.
“Do you even love me or the kid’s?”
She could sense the feelings of panic in her but she turned her gaze up to find what he was staring down at her- if his eyes had the answers she couldn’t find them as- It was a jumble and she strained to make sense of it.
“Why would you ask that?”He asked.
Her heart leapt inside her chest, she didn’t know why she did but there was that in depth feeling that wanted so badly to know all of this.
“Of course I do, what is there not to love?”
In a way there was no chance of savoring sweet words. She had to be ready…
“You’ve been acting differently ever since he showed up and it is leaving me with serious doubts.”
He groaned and for a minute she wished she could see his face to get some indication of what the man might be thinking, but from her position, it wasn’t possible.
She sighed impatiently.”Is this about Christian.”
“And what is that about, why do you think this has something to do with him?”he questioned.
His voice was so cold and deadly that she
shivered. Laura possibly sensed she’d gone too far. She backed up a step
“What has ever happened to you, why are you acting this way?”
Rian narrowed his eyes and they began to glow dark eerily. His body felt tense and it was easy for her to sense how hard he was trying to maintain control.
“You really want to know Why?”He barked out.
“I Saw you the other night, that is why Laura.”
The events of the past night came rushing back to her. As she relieved those last
The few moments, she had with Christian, she could feel as tears pricked at the back of her eyes and she blinked rapidly to keep them at bay.
So much had happened; arguably he had seen when they had almost kissed. The thought of that alone had caused a shiver to run through her. Ambivalence filled her over what had happened.
“And you asked me not to react.”
He stepped closer to her, her breathing was in time with his own; steady and deep as she drifted in memories.
“You are mine, and the thought of that man or seeing them-“he shut his eyes.”Thought bif everything makes me crazy.”
“I am sorry.”She muttered.
Sometime later, fingers gently brushing her forehead drew her closer, he was softly calling her name as she blinked at him listening to his
deep and raspy voice.
She reached up to caress his stubbled jaw and he pressed a kiss to her palm.
“I won’t let Christian come between us again.”
“Okay,”he automatically answered.
Just then the phone in the room buzzed and Rian went to pick it up.
“It is your father.”He mouthed back to her.
