“Alright, but can’t you tell me why you want to see me so bad?,”
Her voice is two tones higher than it should be, giving away her trepidation, she couldn’t tell why but it’s sounded so important from what he had said and she had to see her parents.
Still she is not convinced, she had that feeling that all of this had to do with something as the call couldn’t be coincidence.
“I’m sorry. I should have been clearer,”he insists.”But trust me you’ll hear more about it when you return.”
When she turned to face Rian the look he had showed he wasn’t that pleased.”Should I come with you?”he questioned.
For what felt like a minute, she held his gaze.”I don’t think that would be necessary.”
“And the summit?”He asked.
She groaned. It had slipped my mind, and only now did it occur to me that it would be coming up later that evening.
“I will have to call Riley to represent me. I will not turn around my mind because of this.”
Rian knew it was a lost cause trying to convince her, she’s too stubborn to change her mind regardlessly she forces a smile and ignores her heart rapidly beating in her
chest.
“I was actually hoping it ends early so I can join you a lot there.”She muttered.
He looks up from where he was standing and , raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
The silence is too long between them. It became a staring match, but none of them were refusing to back down.
“It is fine, I will take my leave.”
She listened to him close the door as he walked out. She could tell that he was angry but she couldn’t tell exactly why, so as she was alone she checked on the boys and could see that they were asleep.
She called Riley immediately –
“Can you do that one thing for me?”She asked.
*******
The drive took quite a while, as she took in the entire scenery she alighted slowly from the car
inhaling the crisp air.
She made a call to be sure she was at the right place, she walked towards the security and her Identification card allowed her through.
Anxiety was gnawing at her stomach, she stared around and could see the elite’s that were all around and took a deep breath, while she wasn’t so badly dressed herself she didn’t see herself fit to be where she was .
“What am I doing here?”She whispers to herself.
She had a plan, she was going to stay here for a bit and head out – yet now as she stares at the
overwhelming atmosphere it would be hard to do that.
She already came this far, she might as well follow through, her heels clack against the sidewalk as she makes her way to the entrance-
She only knew about the meeting when Laura had only called her that morning to tell her that she was down with cramps and wouldn’t be coming.
She was so deep in thought that she was unaware of Rhys as she made her way past him, while making a call.
Rhys on the other hand stood right outside the hallway he had just seen her walk in through waiting, trying all he could he couldn’t take away the fact that she looked so beautiful.
Rhys had been following her ever since she alighted from the car and he made her way in, presently she stood closer to the bartender.
He was usually, a nonchalant, no-nonsense type of person, but in this case he was uncharacteristically fussing over her, as not able to get the thought out of his mind. He dropped the cup with him and made way towards where she was, he could hear the last bit of her conversation as he approaches.
“Now remember, just because you’re moving away doesn’t mean you won’t get to check up on me.”
He cleared his throat, she looked up at him shyly and almost choked on her drink, she
tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, she ended the Call.
“You can call anytime and I’m sure.”
“Oh, Mr Rhys.”She held out her hands beaming with a smile.
“No, just call me Rhys.”He insisted.
He shook her tightly knowing while making sure she felt the warmth of hand, she did her best to stop her heart from beating fast.
They both stood there in silence, none of them having the clue of what to say and both of them lacking the mind as well to start the entire discussion-
Since there was no going back, she’d plastered a fake smile on her face and decided to break the silence.
“What are you doing here?”The question was out before she could even say it.
She noted his smile and regretted her question.
She needed something to save the moment, and he did, she said something that made her laugh and so even without meaning the two started flowing so easily.
A music played and Riley squealed.”That is my best song.”
She was syncing to music while watching the glint in his eyes.”Want to dance?”He asked after what seemed like a while
Soon, the two were moving to the music-
She leaned her head against Rhys chest, breathing in his comforting scent one last time.
She’d always had a fun, relaxed relationship but this was way different, this was special … she felt safe with him – he was someone
who tolerated her questions and teased her unmercifully yet was always there when needed and all of this had happened in just hours.
She chastened herself for seeing him in that way under just hours but then it felt like this was the hundredth time for them dancing.
Whatever the reason, she had found herself looking more and more to him for attention, she had found herself loving him and wanting more of him each time.
She felt closer to him than anyone, and so with all of that she harbored no bitterness about the fact; that if he asked what out for another date after this she’d say yes.
“Did you give it to someone? “The simple statement was all she could get out due to the sudden manner at which her heart beat.
Again she hated the fact she was acting all needy but she felt that need to know.
He smiled and nodded at her in understanding and kissed the top of her head.”I don’t if I do, I would be with her.”
Taking a deep breath, she saw him leaning in to kiss her, she wanted this but not when he was all drunk
She stepped away and turned their face away. She didn’t want to look cheap, but it was a much more formal relationship and she understood that.
They’d studied each other and then he’d pulled her into an awkward embrace before mouthing sorry.
“I am sorry, shouldn’t have -“he whispered in her ear.
She nodded, knowing that he had done what he thought was right and much as she wanted it, she wanted it differently.
He only smiles wider, showing off slightly white teeth that made him more handsome-
“Don’t worry, I will make it up to you.”He reaches out a hand and gently touches her cheek. He moves it away when she winces.”You look tired.”
She nodded her head and took a step back, putting herself a few distance away.
“Do you want to go home? ”
The statement comes out more like a question, and he smirks.
“Yes, should I take you? “He questioned.
****
They pulled out of the driveway, she stared straight ahead. If she had to watch the house
slowly appearing.
“We are here.”She turned to him as he finally stated.
And just then, his lips touched hers, briefly, and she drowns in the sensation. He kisses her fiercely, his tongue invading her mouth, as she kissed him back
He’s the one to break the kiss, as he attempts to catch his breath-
They pulled away from each other both smiling, “good night.”She muttered again.
He didn’t want her to leave, rather he stayed here.
She alighted the car and walked to the porch, Damien was standing right there with a bouquet.
“Hello, Riley.”His eyes were fiery red.
