Chapter 16
The grand banquet hall buzzed with anticipation as guests from around the world mingled and exchanged pleasantries. The opulent interior of the hall was a sight to behold, with towering pillars and vaulted ceilings adorned with intricate carvings and gilded accents. Crystal chandeliers hung from above, casting a warm, golden glow over the scene below.
Tables draped in crisp white linens stretched as far as the eye could see, each adorned with sparkling silverware and delicate floral centerpieces. Waitstaff moved gracefully between the tables, serving up a decadent array of gourmet dishes that tantalized the senses.
At the head of the room, a raised platform had been set up for the evening’s speakers, their podium adorned with the emblems of the world’s most prestigious companies. Behind them, a massive LED screen displayed a rotating montage of images, showcasing the achievements and innovations of the attending CEOs.
As the evening wore on, the air was filled with the sound of laughter and animated conversation, punctuated by the clinking of glasses and the occasional burst of applause. It was a gathering of minds and talents, a celebration of entrepreneurship and innovation that brought together some of the brightest minds in the business world.
Amidst the sea of faces, Christian and Laura stood out like beacons, their presence commanding attention wherever they went. Despite the tension that lingered between them, they maintained a facade of professionalism, exchanging polite greetings and engaging in small talk with their fellow guests.
As the night progressed, speeches were made, toasts were raised, and deals were struck, each moment adding to the electric atmosphere of the banquet hall. It was a night to remember, a testament to the power of collaboration and cooperation in the ever-evolving world of business.
“Excuse me babe” Laura said silently but coherent enough for those around them (near them) to hear. It was part of the deal to address themselves like that in public to make it more realistic.
“Hmm hmm” Christian nodded with a smile he had to force with every vein in him. The last thing he was feeling like at that moment was to let out a smile.
Laura stepped into the restroom, her expression stoic as she approached the mirror to adjust her makeup. She focused intently on her reflection, the soft lighting casting a flattering glow over her features as she meticulously touched up her lipstick.
As she turned to leave, her thoughts consumed by the events of the evening, she collided with someone, the impact jolting her out of her reverie. Without missing a beat, she stepped back, her demeanor cool and composed despite the unexpected encounter.
“I apologize,” she said, her voice even and devoid of emotion as she regarded the person before her. There was a brief moment of tension in the air as they locked eyes, but Laura quickly regained her composure and stepped aside to let the individual pass.
The man nodded in acknowledgment, his presence commanding attention as he stood before her. Tall and impeccably dressed, he exuded an air of sophistication and confidence that was impossible to ignore.
“Apologies accepted,” he replied, his voice smooth and confident. “It seems we were both lost in thought.”
Laura inclined her head in agreement, her expression neutral as she took in the sight of him. Despite her stoicism, she couldn’t help but be impressed by his aura of authority and charm.
“Indeed,” she replied, her tone measured. “It’s a busy evening for all of us.”
The man offered her a polite smile before taking his leave, leaving Laura standing alone in the restroom. As she watched him go, she couldn’t shake the feeling of intrigue that lingered in his wake.
“Who’s he? I don’t think he’s from here” Laura muttered, as she smoothened the hem of her dress with her hands
