Chapter 12

Book:Mafia Diego’s Surrogate Published:2024-9-2

Diego’s POV
Putting my hands in my pocket, I grinned in amusement. This young lady will never cease to amuse me. I knew something funny would happen today, from the moment I woke up. I knew she would return.
People like Kamara and her family are left with limited choices when it comes to their survival in life, they have to succumb to the pressure from powerful people like myself. It’s how the world works.
There is no possible way she was going to get the money in two weeks, unless of course, crazy Rodriguez decides to be of help. Which is in every way never happening. I was only being generous, letting her brood on her choices for two weeks.
I sniffed and held a straight face. “Are you sure you are ready?”
She glared at me coldly. “It is none of your business if I am ready or not. What matters is that you keep your end of the bargain and leave my family alone.”
Her fierce side keeps me very much entertained. It’s obvious she can’t help being sassy. I guess it’s why I believe she would make a perfect fit as my surrogate.
“Well, I would prefer a penned agreement. But before then, I need to be certain you are worth the investment.” My words must have hit a wrong cord inside of her. She gave me a look that could tear me apart if she keeps up with it. I am exactly not faced with whatever she puts up.
“Do whatever it is you will do. I am running out of time.”
I nodded in agreement. “It’s nice that you know that. I don’t have time to waste, either.”
“boss?” Aiden called from behind.
“Yes.” I replied, keeping my eyes on Kamara.
“The meeting is about to start.” He informed me.
“Have it rescheduled. I would be back in an hour, and if I don’t return until evening. Round everything until tomorrow.” I instructed. “You will need to come with me.” I said to Kamara.
Without a word, she followed suit. I was expecting her to ask me where we were headed, but she didn’t say anything and was almost not making any sound aside breathing. Works fine for me. I would hate to have a talkative next to me.
It didn’t take long before we reached the hospital. I had texted Fernando to work up a contract and meet me here. Dr. Amanda wasn’t in the office when we arrived. The nurse asked me to hand her over while I waited outside.
During the week, I had called the doctor to give me the necessary details concerning the surrogate procedure. She informed me about the tests that needs to be carried out before any other thing can be done. I already did mine with the conviction that Kamara would show up.
I am really hoping her body will be able to carry my sperm fruitfully. I am not going to subject myself to another queue of different ladies hoping to bear my child. I need someone who doesn’t desire me and would only work for the money. We can get to go our separate ways without causing any scandal or staining my hands with blood.
I hope my grandmother will be delighted now that she is about to get what she wants. It is too much pain to watch her wither away, all because she wants something from me. Even if she asks for the world, I will gladly drop it at her foot. She is the only one I cherish so dearly. Maybe Fernando, but just a bit. He doesn’t deserve that much space in my heart.
“What’s up, expecting daddy?” His annoying voice whined in my ear.
I inhaled deeply, begging every part of my inside to stay calm and not do fume. “You do know how much I hate it when you put your mouth close to my ear. Are you out to frustrate me?” I growled.
Fernando held up a mischievous smile. “It’s what I live for. I love when your face becomes a deeper shade of red. Reminds me of that round tomato in Nana’s garden.”
Letting out a spiteful hiss, I pulled my lower lips in. “You do know I can have them admit you right now? Thankfully, there wouldn’t be the need to waste an ambulance.”
“Calm your horses.” He snickered. “You might be needing an anger management class as it is. Now that you are on a journey to be a parent.”
“I don’t mind going, as long as I get to make one last kill.” I gritted.
“I love you.” He grinned, wiggling his brows at me.
“And I hate you with every breath I take.”
Fernando patted my back slowly. “I feel sorry for you. All this hate might end up choking you in your sleep.”
“That is, if I don’t come for you before then.”
“I will have to be a good father in your place. Gone too soon.” He mumbled, grinning from ear to ear.
I scoffed, hiding the smile making its way to my face. “You are such a gross person.”
“Says someone who is never appreciative of his amazing friend.” He retorted. “Anyway, I brought the contract. I am still surprised you bagged the girl all on your own.”
A prideful grin tugged at my lips. “What do you take me for? I am the most dangerous man in Atlanta. Not just that, but my looks are to die for. I can get any woman I want. That in itself is everything a man needs to live like a legend.”
Fernando made a face. “Don’t you think you are getting ahead of yourself a bit too much. You aren’t all that. I look better than you do.” He said with a pout.
“You wish.”
“Why are you sitting here?” He asked, swiping through his tablet.
“Amanda is running a few tests on her to check if she will be able to carry on with the pregnancy. Can I go through the contract?”
“Sure.” Fernando’s replied handing me the tablet.
I went through it feeling satisfied with the conditions. However, one stopped me halfway. “It’s a year contract.” I stated. “Shouldn’t it be ten months?”
“Pregnancy isn’t something you see in a store and snatch, then it becomes your own. It has its procedures and babies can be funny, refusing to come alive in nine months. The additional three months are just in case of any unforeseen circumstance. Also, that would keep her grounded until the year runs out. We can’t have anyone playing smart with us.”
I hummed at the brilliance. “Not bad.”
“is that all I get for being this amazing?” He retorted.
I sighed tiredly. “That’s all you will ever get from me. Don’t I pay you to do your job?”
He huffed, “do you know what the problem here is? You underestimate me. I am going to stop working for you as soon as I join politics and start representing the one of one. You will see what becomes of you then. Asshole!”
I didn’t get to give him a befitting response as we were interrupted by Dr. Amanda.
“Sorry to cut your conversation short, Mr. Diego. But I need to see you in my office. The results are out.” She said.
I exchanged a look with Fernando and got up. Here we go.
