“The nurse is not recognized by anybody in this hospital, not even the doctor” Adrian explained with a grim expression on his face. The truth was glaring.
“What! So you mean she infiltrated the hospital” Liam questioned as a surge of anger rose in his heart. “She must have been following the orders of someone”
“Yes boss” Adrian affirmed to his boss’s assumption. “I suspect the mastermind to be the same person behind her accident. They must have wanted to get rid of her completely.
“What audacity” Liam uttered, his anger at its peak. He had been played again with someone he had kept under his care. He was going to make the culprits go through grave torture for trampling upon his pride. “Find her wherever she is and bring her to me”
“I’m on it, boss. I already found a location” Adrian uttered with confidence in his tone. “We’ll find her in no time but first, we need a statement from the little girl. It would be helpful as a statement when we involve the police”
“I know, Adrian. i already found a way around that” Liam uttered with a darkened expression. “I believe she’ll open up if Isabelle talks with her”
“Oh! You already called madam?” Adrian asked in surprise to which Liam nodded firmly.
“So, you should get back to locating the woman and also inform the police. I’ll wait here for Isabelle” Liam dismissed Adrian and took a seat which was a metre away from Sabrina.
Liam got lost in his thoughts as he pondered on the motive behind the incident. The mastermind was trying to hide something but what exactly?…. He was losing his patience but he had to hold on. He wouldn’t give his enemies the satisfaction of seeing him lose his cool.
The sound of light footsteps approaching jolted him from his thoughts. He looked up to see the familiar person who had called his name with a soft voice.
“Isabelle” he called out with a tone devoid of emotion.” You came right on time”
Liam explained the severity of the situation to Isabelle and made known to her, the reason he had summoned her. He shot his gaze directly at Sabrina who had her head placed on her grandmother’s lap with her eyes closed. “There she is. Her words can be used as a statement for the police officers”
Isabelle nodded slowly at Liam’s words and walked over to where the two pained people were seated. She felt guilty at the fact that she was going to talk the girl into saying what she saw and not consoling her.
“Good day, ma’am. Sabrina* Isabelle greeted with a forced smile on her lips, her voice startling the two people in a daze.
Sabrina’s heart jumped for joy as a bright smile lit up on her face. The friend she had been hoping for was here.” Aunty Isabelle, what took you so long?” Her cute voice pouted in childish anger.
“I’m sorry, dear” Isabelle apologized as she accepted the hug from the little girl and patted her back. “I’m here now”
“Thank you for your concern”Penelope’s mother chipped in with a sense of gratitude, her voice cracking with tears. “You and your fiance have been of great help to us. What would we have done without you?”
“No need ma’am, Penelope was good to us so it’s our responsibility to pay her back in her coin” Isabelle replied with a bitter smile on her lips which Sabrina noticed.
“Auntie, come sit with me” Sabrina patted the space beside her with a concerned expression on her face. “Are you okay?… You don’t look too good”
Isabelle was stunned by her sharpness and discerning abilities. She had applied a lot of makeup to hide her puffy eyes but she had still noticed. She thought of a way to answer her and then she realized that she could use it as a way to start up a conversation that would lead to what she wanted.
“Well, as you can see. I also have problems I’m struggling with, just like you” she replied with a sincere and sad expression on her face, her problems lingering in her mind as she threw a glance at Liam who was watching her earnestly but looked away the moment their eyes met.
“Really?” Sabrina’s eyes glistened with tears. “I miss my mummy so much. She’s the only one that I can share my problems with”
“Your mommy will be fine, okay?”Isabelle muttered with a soothing voice even though her heart was in doubt. “You just have to be patient a little bit and also helpful”
“Helpful?” Sabrina’s eyebrow furrowed at Isabelle’s choice of words. “How?”
“Well, you want justice for your mommy, don’t you?” Isabelle inquired with a softened voice to which the little girl nodded in affirmation. “I also want justice for my friend but you’re the only one who can help us”
“You think so?… What about the police?” She asked with a skeptical gaze. “Isn’t it their job?”
“Of course it is” Isabelle nodded slowly in affirmation. “But they can’t help without your help.
Sabrina’s eyes glistened with a new determination. She was willing to do anything to help her mummy so she asked, “What do I need to do?”
Isabelle knew at that moment that she had gotten her to loosen up so she said with a smile, “You were the only person who saw the nurse so we need you to testify against her, that is, when she’s been found. Are you willing to do that for your mummy?”
“I am willing” Sabrina nodded after contemplating for a while. “I’ll do it”
“Alright, wait her for me?” Isabelle said as she stood up and walked towards Liam’s direction to explain to him the outcome of her discussion with Sabrina. Liam said they would have to wait till the police arrived. But there was nothing to worry about, convincing her to talk was already a bonus. Isabelle would be there to support her so she doesn’t back out due to fear.
“Boss, we’ve gotten to a dead end” Adrian who came from nowhere uttered in a cold sweat.
