Diana was in the house early because of the message that Ophelia had sent to her. She was to bring the staff and also be there to find a solution to the stalker texts.
“Hello Daddy,” Ophelia said over the phone as she walked down the stairs.
“Ophelia Rainbow Frost,” Carter said over the line.
“I am so very fine thank you for constantly checking in on me after you dumped marriage on me” she said sarcastically.
Carter cleared his throat and did not respond. What was he going to say? That he was sorry? He was in no way sorry, their strategic marriage had made their stocks go up and the sales of products increase. It was beneficial to both parties.
“Judging by your pictures online I can tell you are enjoying it” Carter finally said.
Ophelia sighed because she could not understand why her father remained distant even though she wanted to be closer to him.
“I had to take them, life must go on” Ophelia said sucking up her emotions. She did not call her father to get into her feelings but because of Cade.
“So why am I getting a call from you this early?” he asked and she sighed rolling her eyes. His time was indeed precious because he might rain hell on her if she just called for pleasantries.
“I was getting to it in a minute” Ophelia responded.
“You should be faster about it,” Carter said.
“It’s about Cade”
“What about him?” Ophelia rolled her eyes at how impatient her father was being. At least to her, it was obvious where she got that character trait from as well.
“Well if you let me speak maybe you would have known by now” she replied sarcastically.
“Maybe if you learnt to speak faster I would not need to interrupt you,” he said grumpily. “Time is money” he added.
“Only a father like you would say that while on the phone with their one and only daughter” Ophelia felt like getting off the call with her father who only cared about money but she had given her word to Cade she was going to help him even though her father decided to be a big ass to her this morning.
“What is this about?” she could not believe how well she evaded the question instead of saying anything to her. He should have denied her accusation and said that the only reason he said that was because he had a busy week or was going to have a busy day but instead he just shoved it aside not reading any of her feelings.
She gulped down the urge to ask him questions and just decided to go straight to the point. When she was younger and had decided on rebelling things had been hard for her because her rebellion only got so far. Her father’s response to everything that she did was that she was trying to show the world that she grew up without a mother. He paid the littlest of attention to her and she knew that she was wasting her time trying to get his attention.
“Cade has been getting all these weird messages from a private line”
“And why are you telling me this? I am not an officer” Carter responded.
Ophelia heaved a smile and took a deep breath, this was only going to take a minute, she could suffer his attitude for just a minute and then she would be free from him. “I know that you are not, but he went to the police and he was sent away without any proper looking into the case. I just wanted to call you because I know you know a lot of people so you can use your influence to help fast-track the process and have them look into it urgently” she said.
Carter paused and then began talking. “Isn’t his family just as influential as ours?” he asked.
Ophelia thought to herself how dumb his question was and why he was asking that anyway. “Thye are”
“Then they can use their influence”
“I only thought to ask you because you are friends with the commissioner of police and because whether you like it or not this also affects you now” she said.
Carter made a sound from the back of his throat before breathing out so heavily to her ears. She wanted to scream at him to stop but controlled herself, she was the one seeking help from him so she had to behave herself too. “I am very busy today but tell him to meet me by seven at the police headquarters, I will schedule a meeting” He weighed his options and truly having a stalker stuck to his son-in-law was not a good image for them at all so he had to help him.
“Today?”
“Of course”
Ophelia was going to reply but he cut off the call so fast one would think he was dared to do it for some money. “I am your daughter you know, you can ask how I am doing and just make small talk with me too” she whispered to the phone before throwing it down onto her bed.
She heard a knock on the door and turned around. “I have been waiting for the clothes I bought yesterday but no one seems to be bringing it in,” Ophelia said as Diana walked into the room.
“That is exactly why I am here,” Diana said.
“Well, did the bags refuse to move? Or did they grow legs and run away?” Ophelia asked not understanding why she had not gotten her bags yet. They were not so difficult to move and would take them on three trips at most. She had tried her best not to buy too much.
“You need to come to see them and say hello”
“Why? Don’t they know me?” she asked wondering why Diana would ask that of her.
“Well, they do know you but you might need them in the future and building a good relationship with them might help you” Diana advised.
“It is not like I would remember their names anyway,” Ophelia said taking her phone and shrugging.
“Still I…”
“But you are the advisor here so let’s go”
