Ivy looked down at her plate. “They died when I was still a teenager.” As she said this, she squinted at Irene, who had a fake smile on her face.
“That’s so sad to hear.” Irene could only play along, pretending to be touched by her story.
Dave frowned as his eyes darted between the two sisters. They just repudiated their relationship in front of the family. Do they plan on disowning each other? Or did they decide to cut ties after everything that happened?
Roy noticed the exchanged glares between the two women and suspected they must know each other. “Have the two of you met before?”
“No.” They both denied in unison, still retaining their fake smile…
‘What the…..’ Dave couldn’t understand why they were doing all this. He knew the three of them had their issues, so furrowed his brows, readying himself to say what he felt at the moment…
“Will the both of…” He cleared his throat as he noticed Irene’s gaze. He understood that he shouldn’t interfere. It was obvious who would rule in their marriage… Irene always had the upper hand in their relationship.
Roy dropped his fork as he remembered the main question he wanted to ask. “So when do you two plan on having kids…”
Ivy choked as Zack passed the glass of juice. She gulped the liquid slowly before pouring another glass of juice with Zack patting her back.
“Are the two of you trying to avoid the question?” Henry chuckled as he watched the couple. “Zack isn’t getting any younger; he needs a son.”
“We just got married for goodness sake.” Ivy thought as she gulped another glass of juice.
“And who asked for your opinion?” Zack responded abruptly, which made Henry bite his tongue.
He just stepped on his toes; they never got along. In fact, Zack was never along with his brothers ever since they were little
Ivy observed there were no females present except for the maids, which made her realize that the rumors were indeed true. The two sons of Roy Anderson were never committed in their marriage, especially the second eldest son Henry, who flaunted his reproductive organs around with women. He divorced his wife three years after their marriage and remarried the daughter of a rich heir, divorcing her a year later for a famous singer. And since then, she had been changing women like he changes his suit… As for Albert, there were no records of his marriage, but he had a son with an unknown woman.
After dinner, they had dessert as they kept hurling questions at her without giving her a break. It seems the family get-together was all about her, disregarding Irene like she doesn’t even exist. She was also a new bride of the family, but the surprising news of Zack’s sudden marriage made them want to know Ivy a bit more.
Most of the questions were about how she got him to marry her and how he proposed. How would the cold Zack Anderson ask a woman’s hand in marriage? It was too good to be true. Of course, she didn’t tell them she was the one who proposed.
Irene had a smirk on her face. “So tell me. How did your parents die, huh?” Ivy dropped her smile. Irene was intentionally asking the question she also knew the answer to. Ivy averted her eyes away from Irene. Was she trying to hurt her with the past? Now she was certain of the reasons why Irene wants to destroy her.
“Was it an accident or something else…” She trailed off on purpose as a hint.
“Irene…” Dave didn’t like where things were going. He wouldn’t want a fight to break out in front of his family. He very much wanted to confront Ivy, but he wouldn’t dare in the presence of Zack, or he might be crushed into paste. He wasn’t ready to take the risk.
“What? I just want to know so I can sympathize with her…”
“I would like to hear your story…” Albert chimed as he crossed his legs.
Irene was going too far. It was one of the most painful moments in their life, and she brought it up, wanting her to break down with tears.
Ivy stared deep into her eyes, passing a message across: ‘I am not the same softie of nine years ago.’
“It was a car accident…”
“YOU LIAR!” Irene suddenly blurted out her emotion before pressing her lips as she realized what she just did.
Everyone flinched at the loud outburst as they turned to face her darting eyes.
“How could you tell it is a lie?” Albert asked the obvious question. They both agreed they didn’t know each other, so how was she sure it was a lie?
Ivy sat back and relaxed on the sofa with crossed legs, watching her facial expression. ‘She’s completely hooked.’
“Well… well…”
Ivy batted her eyebrow slightly at Irene.
“Um… Irene had nothing to say, so she tugged Dave’s pants repeatedly. Dave was confused at first, furrowing his brow before he understood what to do. After all, he was once her fiance.
“It is indeed a lie; her parents died in prison.”
“WHAT!” Ivy and Irene burst out in unison. That was terribly false! Irene gave him a look that read ‘are you out of your mind’? While Ivy’s mouth was slightly open as she looked at him in disbelief, ‘who told him that’? Because she knew Irene would never make up something like that, even as a joke. Their past was not to be joked with.
“What the hell of a joke is that, Dave?” Irene frowned. If someone said only her father died in prison, she would have brushed it off. But he said parents, that included her mother…
“Is there something going on here? Are the three of you keeping some kind of secret?” Henry had to ask. The three of them were clearly acting strange, especially Irene…
Old man Roy was glancing at the two women. ‘They definitely know each other.’
Dave turned his face away from Irene’s deep glare. Dave said that without thinking, even though Irene pressured him to think fast to help her out of the situation. He had offended her and he will pay for stepping on her toes…
“Are you two related? Cause I can see the resemblance.” Albert indicated their dimples, as they had smiled multiple times, he observed they had the same smile. It wasn’t a nail on the head, but their behavior wrapped it.
They both stared at each other. Ivy couldn’t bring herself to accept the fact that the woman sitting opposite her was her sister after everything she did and will do, as she had stated she will destroy her. And Irene couldn’t bring herself to forget the past, as she bore a grudge for what happened nine years ago, and she was willing to ruin her life without mercy.
“We are not related.”
“Not in any way related.
