CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT.
LIAM’S POV.
I jolted awake, drenched in sweat, the vivid memories of Janice’s death still haunted me. The weight of guilt and loss never left, no matter how hard I tried to bury it.
I sat up on the couch and glanced over at Caleb who was nervously working on the divorce papers.
Two hours later, Caleb finally handed over the papers, his hands trembling.
“The divorce papers are ready,” Caleb’s voice echoed in my head, snapping me out of my thoughts. I shifted my gaze to Caleb, who stood before me.
I snatched the papers from Caleb’s hand, my fingers brushing against his. I flipped through the pages, making sure to scan all the legal jargon.
“I can see you’re thinking about Janice,” Caleb said, his voice low.
My head jerked up, my eyes locking onto his. “None of your business,” I snapped, my frown deepening and he gulped down. How dare he bring her up now?
I rearranged the papers, my hands shaking slightly. I needed to get out of there, away from Caleb’s prying eyes. I stood up and made my way from the door, but Caleb’s next words stopped me dead in my tracks.
“Rethink it, Liam. Don’t divorce her.” My blood boiled. How dare he? I spun around, my hand instinctively reaching for my gun. I pointed it at Caleb, my finger trembling with rage.
“I guess you’re interested in tasting death or a coma,” I snarled, my voice low and deadly. Caleb let out a soft chuckle.
“Don’t give me a reason to end you, Caleb,” I warned, my voice dripping with venom. “You can still be of use in the future, so don’t.”
With that, I lowered the gun and placed it in my back pocket. I turned to leave, but not before casting a scathing glance at Caleb.
The divorce papers are ready, the only thing I need is her signature and now I’ll be free from her.

ALICE’S POV
I grabbed onto his hand, but it kept slipping away. “Liam, please don’t leave me… Please,” I begged, my voice breaking up. I was trying to mask my inner turmoil as tears clouded my eyes.
Liam’s expression was cold, his eyes devoid of any emotion. “Which part of ‘I want her and not you’ do you not understand?!” he groaned, tossing me aside like a rag doll. I fell flat on the road, sobbing uncontrollably.
As I looked up, I saw Liam interlock his hand with the other lady’s, and he kissed her on the lips right in front of my eyes. My whole world shattered into a million pieces. He flashed me one more disgusting look before walking off with the lady, both beaming happily.
My gaze suddenly caught sight of a fast-moving train heading straight for them. My eyes widened in horror. “Liam, watch out!” I yelled, but he seemed not to hear me, too engrossed in his newfound love.
My breath hitched as the train bore down on them. Just then, Liam seemed to have seen the train, and he pushed the lady off the track. But it was too late for him. The train knocked him off his feet, and he landed a few meters away, blood dripping from his head. He shut his eyes, and my heart knew he was gone.
Fear engulfed me, my heart shattering into pieces. I did the one thing I could think of – I screamed out his name. “Liam!!”
I scrambled to my feet, running towards him, but my legs felt like lead. I fell beside him, cradling his head in my lap. “Liam, please don’t leave me,” I whispered, tears streaming down my face.
But he didn’t respond. His eyes remained closed, his chest still. I felt for a pulse, but there was none. He was gone.
I rocked back and forth, holding him close, my mind reeling with thoughts of what could have been. Why did he have to leave me? Why did he have to choose her over me?
I sat there, holding Liam’s lifeless body, I felt a sense of numbness wash over me. My world had come crashing down, and I didn’t know how to pick up the pieces.
“Liam!” I screamed out his name.
I suddenly jolted awake, it was then it dawned on me that it was all a dream. ‘But is it a sign that something was wrong with him?’.
‘It has been hours he left home and he hasn’t returned yet. Could something have gone wrong?’. Fear engulfed me by the mere thought of it.
I got on my feet and made my way out hurriedly. Just then the door got snapped open right in my face. He was back and he seemed fine. I let out a brief sigh.
“What are you still doing in my room?” He groaned at me.
“I…I…slept off” I stuttered lowering my gaze. His gaze was weakening me to my bones.
“You did what?!” He banged his hand hard against the door and I flinged backwards.
“Who gave you the right to sleep on my bed!” He snapped and I swallowed forced saliva hard.
“I…I…I thought it w…as fine” I stammered.
“And was there a moment in time when I said that?” He fixated his gaze on me and I felt inferior.
“I’m so…rry” I said the only thing I could think of.
“Keep that to yourself and get the fuck out of my room!” He yelled at me and immediately I scurried away, making way for the door.
“Wait…” He ordered and i stopped right on my track and turned to face him.
Just then he flung a document toward my direction and a pen followed suit. They both landed right at my feet.
“Sign it” He groaned.
I took my gaze to the paper. What could it be?. And then I slowly took it back to Liam.
“What’s th.. is?” My voice cracked up again.
“Divorce papers” And just like that his deep baritone voice resounded in my head.
Divorce papers?. He was divorcing me?!.
