It has been a few days since Melody and Damian haven’t spoken to each other. Melody will eat her breakfast, lunch and dinner quietly by herself while Damian eating in his office. Sometimes, he skipped his meal.
Damian in his headquarters office. His fingers tap on his desk. He didn’t know what’s wrong but he felt like distracted. This past few days, he also can’t focus on his work or himself.
Whenever he tries to focus on his work or task, his mind will start to wander off. Matthew, leaning on the wall, wiping his knife, notices his friend looks distressed.
“What’s wrong with you?” Matthew inquired. After keeping himself silent this whole time, he finally got a chance to ask.
Damian sighs and leans his back on the chair, “I’m fine. Why do you ask?”
“I don’t know, maybe because you look disturbed,” he quipped.
“I’m not. I just… too much task to do,” Damian closed his eyes, resting himself.
“Yeah, right,” Matthew scoffs. “As far as I know, all your task is done. Victor just asking your permission to sign the document. That’s all.”
“Mat, please don’t start,” he speaks firmly.
Matthew smirks. He pulled away from the wall and went to sit in front of his desk. He flops himself on the chair. Matthew can guess what is on Damian’s mind right now.
“Hey, Dam. It’s not that hard to be honest about your feelings,” he chuckles.
“Fuck off. I don’t talk about feeling,” Damian glares at him. “Stop saying some bullshit, will ya?”
“I’m not saying bullshit. I’m telling the truth. I know what bothered you right now,” Matthew grins.
“What?”
“You must be thinking about your fight with Melody, aren’t you?” he smirks.
Damian looks at him with a ‘WTF’ expression, “Can you say something that makes sense other than nonsense?”
“It’s not nonsense,” Matthew rolls his eyes.
“There’s no way I’m thinking about that. I don’t care about that woman after all,” he scoffs. He keeps denying the truth even though he knows what Matthew said might be true.
He just can’t accept it.
“Really? Is that why your finger keeps tracing the bracelet?” his friend nods toward the bracelet on his wrist.
Damian’s fingers twitch, “I-I’m not. I just feel uncomfortable since I never wear anything besides my gloves and watch.”
“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” he chuckles.
“I’m telling the truth!”
Matthew sighs, “Dam, can you stop being egoistic for a moment? Just be honest to yourself for this once only.”
“It’s not going to hurt you,”
“There’s nothing to be honest about,” Damian crossed his arms, “Why do I have to think about someone who is not that important to me? She just an outsider who I used for a contract.”
Matthew let out a deep sigh. He knows no matter what he said, nothing will get through this guy.
“Whatever. It’s up to you, Dam. I just want to say that Melody is a sweet and pure girl. She has no bad intentions toward you, from my perspective,”
“As Victor said, not everyone got to handle that kind of situation,” Matthew added.
Damian just keep quiet. He didn’t say anything. Despite the feeling of annoyance towards his friend, his words still affected him. Maybe what his friend said is true.
“Anyway, I got to go. Victor keeps blowing up my phone,” he gets up.
“Don’t tell me you run from your work,” Damian frowns.
“I am,” he chuckles sheepishly, “He keeps lecturing me about the task. I got annoyed so I ran.”
Damian just rolls his eyes and shakes his head slightly. Matthew decided to leave the office. The door shut closed.
He’s alone in his office, thinking about Matthew’s words. He pulls out the bracelet that belongs to Melody out of his pocket.
“Oh for fuck sake…” he grunts and leans his head on the chair.
__________
Night has taken over the day. Melody chills on the couch with her night blouse while eating popcorn. The popcorn bowl was on her lap. The movie is played on the television’s big screen.
The front door opens and reveals Damian, who just got home. He shut the door and saw her on the couch. He decides to ignore her and walks past the living room, but his steps halt.
Somehow, his heart kept telling him to talk with her. Damian lets out a grunt, knowing he can’t stop this feeling.
Melody, who focuses on the movie, is startled when someone sits beside her. Damian sitting there not far from her. She just looks at him before focusing on the television.
“Look like you enjoying yourself at home,” Damian starts the conversation.
“Hmm,” she hummed.
“What movie did you watch?” he questioned.
“Just a movie…” she simply answers.
Damian felt annoyed with her lack of response. He is not a fan of people who answer his questions with short responses.
“Are you going to keep answering me with that kind of answer?” he turns to her with annoyance.
Melody shrugs her shoulder. She knows her actions make him frustrated. Let’s say that is what she wants to do. Let him feel what she felt.
“Can you stop being a fucking childish and talk?” Damian speaks harshly. “This wouldn’t settle if you didn’t talk this right through,”
“Is there something to talk about?” Melody arches her eyebrows.
“Oh please, don’t act like you didn’t know anything. You ignoring me this past few days,” he scowls.
Melody turns her body towards him, “I’m sorry but I don’t think that will bother you.”
“Don’t be sarcastic here,” he narrows his eyes on her.
“I’m not. I don’t think it will bother you,” she smirks. “Did you miss me that much?”
“Just shut it okay? I don’t miss you. I just…” he stops talking.
“Just what?” Melody leans her head on the couch, her doe eyes staring right into his.
Damian clenched his fist, holding the fact that he didn’t have any words left. Melody smirks and leans closer to him.
“Honestly, I’m mad at you right now. But seeing you like this makes me want to tease you,” she grins.
“I’m being serious right now,” he said firmly.
Melody sighs and cross her arms on her chest, “If you want to talk about it, I have no mood for it right now.”
“Look, I just want to know why it affect you so much-I mean, I came right on time,” he frowns.
“Even if I talk about it, will you listen? Let me repeat it…” She takes a deep breath, ” Oh, ‘why do I have to think about your feelings?'”
Melody mocked his voice. Damian lets out a loud grunt, throwing his head back. He didn’t expect her to remember that clearly.
“Okay. Let me get this straight. I don’t know if you will be that way, okay? I just… I just thought it will be a good idea to trap that dickhead,” he ruffles his hair, getting frustrated.
“No, I don’t want to hear the explanation,” she raises her pointed finger. “I want to hear something else,”
“And that is?” he frowns.
“Apologized,” she smirks.
This time, Damian couldn’t help but glares at her. Not even once did he say those words to anyone. So, when someone asks him to apologise, it triggers him.
“I… wouldn’t say that. Ever,” he said through his gritted teeth.
“Okay, fine. I don’t mind though,” she shrugs her shoulder. Melody gets up, “I will go to my room now.”
She was about to leave, but Damian held her wrists. His gloves and hands wrapped her wrist not too tight but still in a firm grip.
“Fine. Fine… I will say it,” he sighs deeply.
“Go on,” she smirks.
Damian takes a brief pause before speaking, “I’m…. s… s-so… sor… ry….”
Melody arches her eyebrows.
“Is it that hard to say sorry? It is just a simple word,”
“I’m trying okay!!” he scolds her. He takes a deep breath and lets it out. “I’m… I’m sorry…”
His voice sounds like whispers. Even Melody could hear it, but she decided to pretend she was not. “Pardon me?”
“Melody, don’t start, please,”
“I swear, I don’t hear it,” she grins.
“I’M FUCKING SORRY!!!”
