Chapter 24

Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2024-8-29

“Hm… you get what you want, Ludwig,”
Damian standing there with Matthew and Victor behind him. He gestures to some man to lift the lifeless body off her. Melody sat up, trying to be aware of what happened.
“Like I expect, he will target her,” Damian smirks.
“You say he being followed you guys from street market?” Matthew questioned.
“He did. He maybe thought that I didn’t know. How fun…” he let out a chuckle.
Melody is still on the floor with some blood on her. She looks at them. Victor saw the state she was in, so he went to grab a towel and hand it to her.
“It’s not a great idea to use your wife as bait, Damian,” Victor speaks up.
Bait?
Damian shrugs his shoulder, “What do you expect? The chance is in front of me. It helps me.”
“You use me… as a bait?” Melody slowly asks.
“I am. That’s why I firmly told you not to leave this room,” Damian explains. “I know he will be targeting you and ask the guard to let him in on purpose.”
Melody couldn’t believe he just did that. She faces the most traumatic things that might stay in her head for who knows how long. She had had enough of the mental abuse from her step-family, and now?
She gets up slowly; even her legs are wobbling. Her hands are trembling, and her hair is messy and all over her face. Before this, she looks so clean and fresh. Now, she felt like she was in a pool of blood.
Matthew frowns, “Melody, are you okay? You look… shaking.”
“How can you expect me to be fine after what happened?” she mumbles.
“You are fine. There’s nothing happened to you. Don’t be too overdramatic,” Damian sighs, shaking his head.
“Over… dramatic? You said I’m too overdramatic?” Melody clenched her fist. “He almost kills me. Rape me. I can’t wipe off the touch he gives me…”
“I come right on time,” he firmly speaks.
“It didn’t change the fact that you use me as bait. What if something went wrong?” Melody lifts her head.
Damian was stunned for a moment when her teary eyes met his. “I know what I’m doing. Why does it affect you so much?”
“Because you are not in my place! You don’t even tell me anything about it!! It fucking scare me!!” Melody burst out.
Matthew and Victor were shocked to hear her first time burst out. She always smiles and teases or keeps her voice down. This time, it is different. They finally got to see a different side of her.
“I’m scared!! I-I thought I would die or it would be the end of my life…” she gripped her hair. “You don’t understand how much it gives me trauma…”
Damian steps closer to her, “Look, if I told you, I know you wouldn’t like that idea. Besides, there’s nothing happened to you. Snap out of it.”
“No matter what I said… you will never think of how I felt…” she mumbles.
“What? Think of how you felt?” Damian scoffs. He chuckles, holding his forehead, “You got to be kidding me.”
Melody looks at him.
“Why do I have to think about how you felt? Huh? You are not someone important to me. You are just my contract wife. We are in a contract relationship,” he added.
He was right. They’re in a contract relationship. All of this is just a deal. Why does he even care about him? Melody gripping the bracelet on her wrist.
“I forgot… forgive me about that…”
Matthew could sense the change in her tone.
“You are so dramatic,” Damian sighs.
Without saying anything, Melody takes off the bracelet and throws it on the ground. Despite his keeping his stoic expression, somehow, it made his finger twitch when she did that.
“Just throw that bracelet. It’s a mistake,” she speaks up.
Damian couldn’t keep his stoic expression. He furrows his eyebrows at her sudden change. He just did a little bit of action, and she became dramatic like this?
Melody walks passing him.
“Where are you going?” he questioned.
“Sleep. We’re going home tomorrow so I have to sleep early,” she answers. Her tone was filled with no emotion in it.
“What are you talking about? You going to sleep here. This is your room,” Damian crossed his arms on his chest. Getting pissed off.
“I will go get a new room,” she simply answers.
“No. You going to sleep here,” he insisted. “If you go get another room, I won’t pay for it,”
Melody looks at him, “You got no right to say that since our deal says that you will provide my needs.”
Her words make Damian silent. That’s right. He has to provide for her needs without complaining. Damian let out a deep sigh, knowing he was lost in this. Before letting him speak, the door shut close, leaving him with his men.
There’s an awkward silence in the room. Matthew and Victor exchange looks along with his men. They never want to be involved in a wife and husband fight.
“That was… extreme,” Matthew mumbles.
“What makes it extreme?” Victor frowns in confusion.
“Have you ever seen anyone turning their back and walking away from Damian?” Matthew smirks. His friend shakes his head. “That’s what I thought. Melody dared to do that, and it was interesting.”
“Enough,” Damian firmly speaks. “Get back to your room, all of you.”
“Are you not going to-”
Before Matthew finishes, he cuts him, “No. It’s not my business. That woman is just being overdramatic.”
“Dam, she’s a girl. A female. Any woman would be traumatised by that kind of action. No matter how independent she is,” Victor speaks up. He might don’t have any experience in women but he knows how to respect them.
Damian gritted his teeth, “I said I don’t care, right? Get back to your room, now.”
Victor just sighs and leaves. Matthew and the others follow him closely, and the door shuts closed.
Damian lets out a sigh. He gazes on the bracelet, which is being thrown to the floor. He picks it up and stares at it.
_______
The next day, they are ready to go back to their home. Damian talking with his men in front of his private jet. As he talks, Melody’s presence takes his attention.
She is wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, simple enough. He turns his body to her when he notices the girl is approaching him.
“What took you so-” he stops talking when Melody walks past him. His eyes blink in confusion.
“Have a safe flight, Ma’am,” a guard greeted her.
“Thank you,” she smiles and gets in.
Damian frowns, “Did she just ignore me?”
“Yes, she did,” Matthew appeared out of nowhere. “Do you think she will come to you and talk with you like she always did after what you did?”
“What did I do?” he frowns.
“Are you seriously asking that?” Matthew frowns.
“Please don’t tell me about yesterday,” Damian let out a deep sigh. “I have no time to think about it.”
“As Victor said, not everyone can handle that kind of situation, Dam. You have to understand that,” his friend speaks up.
Damian rolls his eyes, “Whatever. It’s up to her. Besides, my world is even peaceful without her teasing and bothering my life.”
He went inside the private jet, leaving Matthew, who just sighed. Matthew knows Damian will say that and act like it doesn’t bother him at all. The little bit he knew, he was lying to himself.
“He still protests it?” Victor came beside him.
“What do you expect?” Matthew scoffs.
As the private jet finally goes up to the sky, the atmosphere is silent. The only thing that filled the jet was the sound of Matthew making drinks and keyboard typing from Victor, who was busy with his task.
Damian’s attention is on his tab, but he occasionally glances at Melody beside him. She looks outside the window with headphones on her head. Even though her silence is peaceful for him, something is missing.
His finger keeps tracing the bracelet on his wrist. Without thinking, he pulled the headphones off her head.
“What the-”
“Can you take it off for a while? It’s not like you are dead if you don’t listen to music. I want to talk with you. So, get rid of the headphones,” Damian speaks with his stoic expression.
Melody huffs. She snatches her headphones back, “I do what I want. Mind your own business.”
“I’m trying to talk with you, is it hard for you to just talk to me?” he narrows his eyes on her.
“Yes!”
“Why!?”
Matthew and Victor stop what they do when they hear them bickering. They feel like they could see a strike of lighting between them as they glaring each other.
“Because I don’t want to!” Melody scowls.
“I don’t care if you don’t want to. I said I want to talk means you have to talk with me!” Damian talks back.
“What if I don’t want to? You are not my boss! This is not a part of the deal!” she raised her voice.
“A deal or not, it didn’t matter! I’m your boss! I provide everything for you! That’s make me your boss!” he exclaims.
“Of course, it didn’t matter because you never cared about my feelings or anyone!” Melody scoffs and chuckles in sarcasm.
Damian gritted his teeth, “Are you seriously going to bring that up again?”
“Yes! Until you realise what you did!” she poked his shoulder.
“Fine then! I don’t care what happened! Do what you want!” Damian throws his hands in the air before looking away.
“You think you are the only one who can do that!?” Melody exclaims. She throws her hands in the air, “Fine then! It’s not like I want to talk with you!”
Both of them look away, giving their back to each other. Damian, getting frustrated, got up and went to the private room. He slams the door closed.
Melody puts her headphones back and turns up the music. Her mouth moved, talking to herself about how poop-head Damian was.
Matthew and Victor exchange looks and just shake their head slightly.
