Chapter 15

Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2024-8-29

Damian stared at his paperwork, trying to settle out his task. His fingers tap on the desk. The sound filled the study room.
As he focused on his task, his phone vibrated. Damian grabs his phone and answers the call as his mother calls.
“Hey, my sweet son!!” Mrs. Gabriella said in a bright tone.
“Mum? What is it? Is there something you need?” he asks, still focusing on his paperwork.
“Is it wrong for a mother to call her sweet yet handsome son?” she let herself fall on the couch, holding the phone to her ears. Her husband who saw what she did just shakes his head.
Damian sighs, “There’s nothing wrong with it. But I could feel you got something in your mind.”
“My son is never a disappointment, isn’t he?” she chuckles. “Me and your father just wanted to know if you already found someone to marry?”
“I don’t even care about that,” Mr. Flavio chimed in.
“Shut it,” Mrs. Gabriella glares at him. She clears her throat, “So, Angelo? Have you found one?”
“You told me you wouldn’t push me,” he leans on the chair as he puts down his paperwork.
Mrs. Gabriella chuckles, scratching her head, “I do say that but I just… wanted to hear the progression.”
“Oh, please. I bet he didn’t find one. I think a lot of girls ran away from our son due to his intimidating gazes,” Mr. Flavio laughs.
Damian could hear his father’s laughter through the phone. He just rolls his eyes despite that he is used to his father’s tease.
“My son is not intimidating! Stop it!” his mother scowls at Mr. Flavio.
“You can’t say I’m wrong though,” Mr. Flavio grins.
Mrs. Gabriella glared at her husband. Sometimes, she wants to hit her husband but that will lead to the next war.
“What if I found a wife already?” Damian blurt it out.
The silence fills the phone line. Damian pulls his phone away to check whether his mother already hangs up or not.
“Can you repeat that, Angelo?” she requests.
“I said… what if I found a wife already?” Damian repeats the question.
After a short pause, a loud squeal from Mrs Gabriella makes Damian pull away from the phone abruptly. The high pitch makes his ear ringing. Meanwhile, Mr. Flavio almost drops his coffee mug.
“You are not joking, aren’t you, Angelo!?” Mrs. Gabriella screams.
“I’m not, mum,” he sighs, “And please don’t scream. You hurting my ears.”
“Hah! I told you!! Angelo found a wife already!!” she said looking at her husband with pride.
Mr. Flavio frowns, “You are not pulling my leg, aren’t you?” He didn’t expect his son to do that task so fast. Looks like, he is serious about being the next heir.
“No,” she smirks. “Angelo, we should plan the wedding right away!!”
“No need, mum,” Damian speaks.
“Why? We need to! You are getting married! Even that because you want to take over the clan,” Mrs. Gabriella chuckles.
Damian pinches the bridge of his nose, “No need to. We already marry by signing the marriage contract.”
“You mean… you both already married without any wedding and just a simple way by signing it?” she guessed.
“Yes,”
“Why you didn’t tell me!? We want to meet our daughter-in-law too!!” Mrs. Gabriella scolds him. “Gosh! Angelo! You better bring her here tonight for dinner!”
“What-”
“No protest! Since you married in that way and didn’t tell us, you have to come to dinner and bring your wife. Tonight,” she firmly speaks, leaving no room to protest.
Damian knows that tone. If she says that, that’s mean he has to follow. He grunts and throws his head back. He has much more work to do than facing this type of stuff.
“I swear, I want to see your ass here with your wife tonight. If you didn’t, don’t expect me to give you a chance,”
By that, Mrs. Gabriella hung up. She takes a deep breath and jumps in excitement. Mr. Flavio who witness it just shakes his head. Seeing his wife happy like this makes him feel happy too.
“Are you that happy?” he chuckles.
“Of course! Oh gosh! I can’t wait to have grandchildren!!” Mrs. Gabriella giggles and lies on the couch. She starts to dream of playing with her grandchildren.
“You put too much hope on this, dear,” Mr. Flavio shakes his head.
“What are you trying to say?” she frowns.
Mr Flavio sighs, crossing his legs, “You know our son is not a lovely person. I bet his wife right now is regretting the decision,”
“Hey, I’m sure this will change his life drastically. Trust me,” Mrs. Gabriella huffs.
“Oh yeah? Well, we will see, dear. Don’t forget about our bet,” he grins.
There’s no way that her daughter-in-law will regret the decision of marrying Damian right? She knows Damian probably paid her to marry him but that didn’t matter. Mrs Gabriella just hoped that the girl didn’t regret the choice she made.
The sound of a door creaking makes Damian lift his head. Melody’s head peaked from behind the door. Her eyes darted into his study room. It seems like she didn’t realise he was there.
“I hope you didn’t come here on purpose to bother me,” Damian voices out.
Melody flinch. She just noticed he was there this whole time. She steps in with a sheepish smile, “I didn’t come here on purpose. I just exploring this mansion.”
“This mansion is so big but you live alone. Didn’t it waste the space?” she puts her hands on her hips.
“It didn’t,” Damian simply answers.
“You should find a smaller house instead,” she sighs.
“It’s none of your business,” he said. “Can you leave?”
Melody pouts, “I just want to look around. It’s not like my presence is bothering you, right?”
“That’s one of the reasons why I kick you out,” Damian scowls, getting frustrated by her voice.
“Oh gosh! Am I that pretty? I mean-of course, I am right?” she twirls making her blouse blow a bit, “Look at me. Your maid knows what to buy for me.”
Damian gets up, “You are so annoying.”
“Where are you going?” she titled her head in confusion. Did she say something wrong that triggered him?
“I got work to do,” he pulls his white gloves more as it starts to loosen, “Also, I want to get away from you,”
Melody pouts slightly. She just answered him.
He walks towards her, standing right in front of her. His huge and tall frame towered over her petite and short one. His cold gaze stares right into her green eyes. There are no words between them.
Seeing no words coming out from him, Melody grins. Somehow, that smile makes Damian’s fingers twitch.
Suddenly, he grabs her collar and drags her out. “Hey!! What are you doing!?”
They went downstairs to the living room. Then, Damian makes her sit on the couch. He lets out a deep breath.
“Stop exploring the mansion. Stay here and watch a movie or something,” he walks toward the front door, “I will be right back.”
Melody turns around and leans on the couch to watch him. Before Damian steps out of the mansion, he looks at her over his shoulder.
“Dressed up for tonight. My parents invite us for dinner. They want to meet you,” he reminds her.
“Yes sir!” she salutes at him.
Damian sighs and rolls his eyes before shutting the door and leaving the mansion.
