Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2024-8-29

Damian parks the car in front of his mafia headquarters. He gets out of the car and gives the keys to the guard to take care of it. He walks into the penthouse as the door opens by the guards.
“Welcome back, sir,” they bowed their head.
He just nods and continues walking to his office. His eyes look around to see some of his men goofing around, some of them working, chatting, sparring, and training.
This penthouse is just like a house for his men. That’s what Damian wants them to feel. Somehow, he can’t let them goof around all the time.
“Stop playing and do your work. I didn’t pay you guys to fuck around,” he firmly speaks as he walks passing them.
Those men stand straight, “Y-Yes, sir.”
Damian opens his office door and is greeted by Matthew and Victor who chilling on the couch.
“What are you guys doing here?” he sighed, shut the door closed and went to his desk.
“Just chilling out,” Matthew puts his legs on the table with a smirk.
Damian let himself sit, leaning on the chair. His gazes fixed on him knowing that guy had something in his mind.
“Stop that fucking smirk. What is it?” he demands.
Matthew chuckles, “Geez, so grumpy. You are grumpier even today. What’s wrong?”
“Don’t ask me a question when I ask you a question,” Damian grunts.
Matthew laughs as he can making his friend annoyed. Meanwhile, Victor just sighs and shakes his head slightly. He knows Matthew will never stop teasing Damian until a gun is pointed at his head.
“So… how was your marriage life so far?” he grins knowing what will be the answers from Damian.
“Don’t even start it,” Damian glares at him. He rather faces his paperwork than talk about this.
Matthew bursts into laughter, clutching his stomach. He didn’t know why but he could picture what was happening between him and Melody.
“Not so good, huh?” Victor chimed in while busy with arranging the paper.
“That girl is annoying. I’m starting to regret choosing her as my contract wife,” he grunts, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I don’t think I will last for a year with her.”
Matthew chuckles, “Come on, Melody is not that bad right? She looks like a sweet girl to me. Even she steals our money but still… she looks like a good girl.”
As he heard that, Damian couldn’t help but cringe. She is far more than that. That girl knows how to talk back to him. He never felt this challenging handling anyone in his life.
“Can we not talk about her now? I hope you guys had something to talk about that related to work,” Damian said, deadpan.
“Actually…” Victor went to his desk, “There is.”
“What?”
“Do you remember Ludwig?” he asks.
“Hm. The guy who stole my company money?” Damian looks up to him. “What about that guy?”
“He ran away,” Victor blurt it out.
His movement halts. Damian paused for a moment before letting out a low chuckle. “Run? From me?”
“Yes. Our men lost track of him. They said the last time they saw him was at the airport,” he explains more as he hands Damian a picture.
The picture shows a CCTV capturing Ludwig in the airport. A smirk tugged on his face. Who expects this guy to dare to run away from him? He didn’t know the consequences of running away.
Damian puts down the picture, “Find the information of where he headed to. I want to have a nice talk with him.”
“That guy hasn’t paid a single penny. He stole the money and didn’t pay it even after you gave him a warning,” Matthew chimed in. He scrolled the social media on his phone.
“Hm. Maybe he needs something more than a warning,” Damian smiles.
It’s already evening. Melody looks at the clock and it is already 7:30 pm. She looks at herself in the mirror. She wearing a high-waist lace skirt with a baby pink top tucked in. A flower clips on her hair.
She keeps looking at herself in the mirror. This might sound weird but she felt nervous. She didn’t know how that old man’s parents were. What if they’re some kind of toxic and psycho?
“There’s no way Mr. Angelo will let them kill me right?” she talks to herself.
“Gosh! What are you thinking of!? Of course, there’s the possibility of it happening. I mean… they are mafia family,”
Melody huffs. Then, she heard the front door downstairs open. She immediately gets up and rushes downstairs.
Damian shuts the door behind him. He takes off his white coat and pushes his hair back. His attention moves to Melody who running downstairs. It seems like she is already dressed up well.
“Welcome home!” she grins, standing in front of him.
The man stares at her from head to toe. Not going to lie but this appearance suits her. Innocent, sweet and pure.
“Hm. I thought you would be wearing your Stich onesie,” he quipped.
“I’m not that stupid, Mr. Angelo,” Melody rolls her eyes.
“Oh? Really?” he walks passing her, “I thought you were.”
Damian walks upstairs leaving her downstairs in annoyance. Melody just watching him leave. She scoffs and crosses her arms on her chest.
“I thought you were,” she mocked his voice before going to sit on the couch, waiting for him.
It has been 30 minutes. Melody looks at the clock and it is already 8 sharp. She frowns as that guy hasn’t come downstairs yet.
“Is he dressing up like me also that makes him taking this long?” she mumbles to herself. She lay on the couch with one leg up to the couch.
She getting bored waiting for him. It was almost past dinner yet he didn’t come. Melody tapped her fingers on her tummy.
Suddenly, a heavy footsteps were heard. Melody sat up immediately and saw the man was finally done with… whatever he was doing just now.
“Finally. Are you braiding your hair or what? Or your make-up didn’t work out?” Melody speaks sarcastically.
Damian tightened the black gloves on his hands. He’s wearing a silky black button top and slack pants. The unfinished button exposed his wide and muscular chest that was decorated by tattoos.
His appearance is never a disappointment.
“Do you have a problem with it?” Damian glares at him.
“I don’t. Just curious why you took so long,” she shrugs her shoulder.
He rolls his eyes and sighs. “Let’s go. We have to go to the store first to buy some groceries.”
Melody jumped over the couch and ran to his side. They walked towards the black sports car, “Store? Groceries? Didn’t we go to your parent’s house, sir?”
“My mother just called me and she asked me to buy some stuff. She just started cooking due to some work just now,” he explains and unlocks the car.
“No wonder you are so relaxed,” she mumbles.
Melody went to the other side of the car and opened the door. She gets inside and shuts the door. Damian starts the engine and pushes down the handbrake before starts to drive off.
She looks around the sports car looking amazed. She didn’t care what people said but sitting inside the sports car for the first time made her excited. Melody keeps touching around the car.
Damian who saw it got annoyed. “Can you stop touching like you’ve never been in the car before?”
“Well’ve never been in a luxurious car before, sir,” Melody said.
“No wonder why,” he mumbles.
“Mr. Angelo, why did your parents suddenly invite us for dinner?” she questioned since she remembered her overthinking just now.
“They just want to meet you,” he simply said.
Melody fiddles with her fingers. Somehow, she keeps overthinking that they just want to lure her into their trap and then kill her.
“Are you sure? I-I mean… you and your family… didn’t think of…” she hesitated to speak. “… killing me, right?”
“Kill you?” Damian frowns. “What makes you think that?”
“Who wouldn’t? I mean, your family is mafia along with you! There’s a lot of possibilities that could happen,” she crossed her arms.
Damian sighs, “You think too much,”
“I can’t help it,”
Then, an idea filled his head. A smirk tugged on his lips. “Hm… you don’t have to worry about me. I wouldn’t do anything to you.”
“What do you mean I don’t have to worry about you?” she frowns.
“Well… like I said, I wouldn’t do anything to you,” Damian smirks. He glanced at her and could see the tension in her state. “But, you should worried about my parents.”
