Chapter 14

The light shines and fills the room through the curtain. Melody’s eyes flicker open, and she moves and stretches her arms. Her eyes open wide and stares at the ceiling. Notice that this is not her room.
“Oh yeah… how can I forget I’m not in that hell anymore?” she mumbles.
Melody buried her face on the pillow feeling the soft mattress. Usually, whenever she wakes up, she will feel tense and on guard. But this time, she knows no one will bother her.
Why?
Because she knows Damian would rather face his work than bother her.
After a while, Melody shut the bathroom door. She wearing a baby blue blouse. She twirls in front of the big mirror in her bedroom.
“I got to say… the maids good at choosing clothes. They know my style,” Melody chuckles.
The door knocked, “Miss, breakfast is ready.”
“Coming!”
Melody breathes out and is ready to face a new life. She went downstairs and straight to the dining room. The door was opened by the maid.
Her eyes widen to see a lot of breakfast. Again. She looks around and it’s only by herself. There’s no way she could finish all of this. Besides, why do they have to prepare a lot of food like this?
“Have a seat, miss,” the maid smiles as she pulls out the chair.
“Thanks,” Melody politely bowed her head and took a seat.
Some maid prepared her food. They put down her plate and scooped some food for her.
“Um… is it only me having breakfast?” Melody questioned.
“Yes, miss,” one of the maids answers.
“Oh. Where is Mr. Angelo?” she looks up at her.
The maid pauses for a moment, thinking, “I think… I think Mr. Angelo is in his study room. He’s not a breakfast person.”
“He doesn’t eat? What? Is he like some kind of camel?” she quipped.
“That-”
Before the maid could answer, someone spoke up, “Is it a problem for you if I become a camel?”
She turned her head and saw Damian standing at the doorway, glaring at her. He’s wearing black button tops and a white coat with the sleeves rolled up to his elbow. His white slacks pants match it.
“No. It’s not a problem,” she grins.
Damian narrows his eyes on her before walking towards his seat. Her eyes fixed on him, watching everything move off him.
“I thought you were not a breakfast person, my husband,” Melody teased him.
“I’m not. But today is because I got a lot of work to do,” he grumbles, grabbing the plate. Then, he looks at her with sharp gazes as a warning, “And don’t call me that.”
She giggles knowing he hates the nickname of ‘my husband’. Melody starts eating, munching her food while staring at him. The atmosphere in the dining room was filled with silence.
Not awkward or tense.
Just quiet.
Melody’s eyes scanned him as if taking every detail of his features. The way his jet-black hair moved whenever he was moving and his big figure dominated her sight. His silver necklace hanging on his neck.
His white gloves and hands move whenever he wants to grab something. She could guess a lot of women were swooning over him.
“If you are done checking me out, I am more than thankful if you move that pervert gaze off me,” he speaks out.
“Pervert? No, I’m not a pervert. Just checking you out,” she bluntly said.
Damian furrows his eyebrows slightly. Isn’t that the same?
“Why do you always dress up? Even at home. It’s not like anyone wants to swoon over you here,” Melody rolls her eyes.
“I dress up not because I wanted to. I have to be prepared for anything. I’m a busy man. I got a business too to handle,” he replied.
“Well, I thought you only got mafia business. Who knows you are the CEO too,” she scoffs. “You must be greedy.”
“I’m not,” he firmly said.
“Just saying,” she shrugs her shoulder.
Melody continues eating. She looks around the mansion, “I wonder, do you live alone?”
“Did you see anyone here with us?” he questioned her back. She slowly shakes her head. “That’s mean yes.”
“You should fix your brain before asking a dumb question,” Damian said bluntly.
“No, it’s not a dumb question. You are the one who should fix your brain,” she grins. The man looks at her with confusion.
“What do you mean?” he frowns.
“You didn’t live alone. You are living with your servants and guards. They are here. Are they invisible to you?” Melody leans forward and puts her chin on her palm hands as her elbow on the table.
“Hmm, are you having a bad eyesight? If you do, it must be ashamed for a mafia leader like you,” she added.
The servants tried their best not to react or let out any sounds out of their mouth. Not even one person dared to say something like that to their boss before.
Damian’s eyebrows twitch. His hands halt from moving. “You do have a mouth,”
“Of course. If not, how can I talk?” she titled her head.
“I suggest you to mind your words, girl. I’m not your buddy for you to talk like that to me,” he speaks in a deep tone, laced with warning.
“I just speak what I had in my mind. You know, honesty is good,” she smiles.
“Before I aim the gun at your head, it’s better if you shut your mouth,” Damian looks at her with glares. He wants nothing but to shoot this girl. Of course, he can’t do that.
Melody sighs as she shakes her head. “Mr. Angelo, that’s not how you treat your wife-”
Everyone in the dining room gasped as Damian pointed the gun to her forehead. The servants went stiff to see the scene. All of them pray that the girl will be saved by this man.
Meanwhile, Melody just stays at her place without any reaction. She looks up at him. Her doe eyes meet the cruel gazes of him.
“I told you to stop talking, didn’t I?” he slowly speaks. “And why should I treat you as my wife? You just a wife on the paper.”
“Don’t make yourself too comfortable with me. I could kill you in a second if I want to,” Damian pulls back his gun and puts it in his pocket.
Melody just looking at him. There’s no hint of fear in her eyes just like when they first met.
He huffs, “Do whatever you want to do. I will be in the study room. Please, HESITATE to come if you need help.”
Damian gets up before leaving the dining room. Soon, the door closed, and Melody let out a breath that she had been holding this whole time. She rubs her chest and leans on the chair.
“Gosh, that was extreme,” she mumbles.
Not going to lie that action freaks her out. Thank goodness, she managed to maintain her character.
After breakfast, Melody decides to explore the mansion. She doesn’t want to risk herself by losing her. The maid offered to give a tour but she politely declined since she liked it more to do it by herself.
It felt like an adventure.
Melody kept walking not knowing where she headed. Until she found a hallway filled with pictures. She slowly walked down the hallway.
The frame pictures contain a family. There are two adults and two little boys that seem like a twin. One little boy smiles so brightly like a sun while the other one has a cold expression.
“This must be that old man,” Melody mumbles to herself.
She continues walking. The framed picture slowly shows the journey of the family. The twins slowly grow up with every picture. Their happy moments, events and everything.
Until the picture reaches the last one where there a parents and only Mr. Angelo is left, standing behind them.
“Where is the other boy?” she frowns, checking every frame picture. “All pictures have him but why this one… it’s only Mr. Angelo?”
