Chapter 13

Book:Rose & Thorn: The Perfect Duo Published:2024-8-29

Like Teresa said, Melody’s life will be miserable when she gets involved with Damian. The last person who got involved with him ended up with nothing but death. Or even better swimming in their blood.
Unfortunately…
“THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME!!”
Melody smiles brightly. Her jaw drops, her eyes sparkling in amazement. She couldn’t stop looking at the fancy and expensive brand of clothes. The maids held it out for her, asking her to choose.
“You can choose, miss,” the maid smiles.
“Are you freaking serious!? I-I mean I don’t have to pay any single penny right?” Melody hesitated to choose.
Those maids exchange looks and chuckles, “No, miss. This is all from the boss. He asks us to go to the mall to buy some clothes for you.”
Melody is slightly taken aback by that sentence. She didn’t expect him to do that. She expects he will let her wear the onesie of last night until forever.
“Oh well, if that is so… I will choose this,” she points at the white floral dress.
She had never worn a dress before and she always dreamed of wearing one. The maid smiles and hands her the dress.
“Do you need our help in changing?” the maid offers.
Melody arches her eyebrows. She knows they just trying to be helpful but this one felt like they’re in some kind of royalty in fantasy.
“N-No need. Thank you. I will be right downstairs in a minute,” she chuckles.
Those maid nodded and bowed their head before leaving the room. Melody sighs as the door finally shut.
After a while, she’s done with changing her clothes. She looks at herself in the mirror and notices the differences and awkwardness in her appearance. This is the very first time she wear this kind of thing.
She never had a chance to wear the dress type since Teresa would take it away from her.
Melody let out a sigh before deciding to go downstairs. After last night’s incident, she still couldn’t believe that she was finally out of that hell. Damian asks the maid to show her room and give a little bit of a tour of his mansion.
“Miss Melody, come with me,” one maid politely speaks soon she saw Melody go downstairs.
“Sure….”
The maid leads her to the dining room. The door opens and that’s when she sees Damian sitting there, looking at his tab.
“Sir, Miss Melody is here,” the maid announced.
“Sit,” Damian demands without looking at her.
Melody didn’t want to say anything rude that could lead to an argument. She takes a seat opposite him. The maids serve her breakfast quietly and there’s no question in their eyes about who she is or why she living here.
“I see you wearing the clothes they bought for you,” Damian finally lifts his gaze, scanning her.
“Oh, I don’t know you have great taste in fashion,” she looks down at her dress. “Thank you for buying me the new clothes.”
He arches his eyebrows, leans on the chair, crossing his arms, “Me? Bought you the new clothes?”
“Yeah, why?”
“You got to be kidding me,” he chuckles mockingly. “You think I care to buy you those clothes? I just ask that maid to prepare the needs you need.”
“I have no time to go buy your stuff by myself. I rather do my work than do that,” Damian scoffs.
Melody held herself from rolling her eyes and saying something else. She lets out a deep sigh.
“Why do you call me here?” she questioned, not wanting to hear his cocky responses anymore.
“I have to tell you the deal in this marriage contract,” Damian speaks out. There’s no slight emotion in his tone.
He pulls out a piece of paper and slides it on the table. Melody glances at him first before taking the paper. She read every word on it.
“In this marriage, there’s no attachment, no intimate interaction, physical touch, or any feelings, got it? It’s just a marriage contract,” he explains.
“I will provide you anything you want, just ask the maid. You will live with me, come with me if there’s any event or any work that involves you, do you understand?”
Damian keeps his stern gaze on her. He wants nothing but to settle this thing for one year. After a year, he will be free from the strings of marriage. He stares at her waiting for her to answer.
Melody just looking at the paper. After a brief pause, she lifts her gaze, “Just curiosity, what is the point of this marriage?”
“It’s none of your business to know,” he firmly speaks.
“Well, it’s didn’t included in our deal, didn’t it? So, I deserve to know,” she smirks.
He let out a deep sigh, “This little minx… I need this marriage so that I can be the next leader of my father’s clan.”
“That’s all? Why you just don’t take it over?” Melody arches her eyebrows.
“It’s not that easy. My parents set this deal. If I didn’t get married, I can’t take over the clan,” Damian scowls as he gets annoyed by her question.
“Maybe because you are pushing to 30…” she mumbles under her breath.
Somehow, Damian heard it. He wants to say something about it but it’s not worth his time. He rolls his eyes and throws the pen on the table.
“Agreed or not?”
“If I agreed, what do I get?” Melody questioned.
“Are you deaf? I told you, I will ask my maid to provide your needs and you don’t have to worry about money,” he explains with laced of annoyance.
Melody leans forward, “That’s not enough for me. I want something more.”
“Something… more?” he frowns. His eyes narrowed slightly on her, “What do you mean by that?”
“Thank you for the needs and care that you guys will provide for me but… if I need a favour, can I come to you?” Melody request.
Damian paused for a moment. He wants nothing to do with this girl. As long as she’s alive then everything is fine. But when she asked him to do her a favour if she had one, he felt like a burden fell on his shoulders.
“Great… this is not what I plan,” he pinches the bridge of his nose.
“Agreed or not?” she grins, using his words against him.
Damian looking at her with sharps gazes, “Seriously? If I agree to this you will follow my rules?”
“Yes. You have my words,” she smiles brightly.
The man stares at her, thinking about it. Then, he let out a deep sigh. “Fine. I agreed.”
“Cool!! That’s what I want to hear!!” she giggles.
“Great. That’s it. If you behave and follow our rules, we will going to be fine. You got what you want, I got what I want, understand?” Damian arches his eyebrows.
She nods. “Understands,”
She grabs the pen and signs the paper. By signing it, they are officially married and known as husband and wife. Not even in his lifetime he had to be related to someone. He has to make sure she is safe and well.
Not because he cares but because that’s what his parents ask him to do. If not, the deal is off.
Soon she signed it, she slid it to him, “I’m looking forward to working with you… I guess.”
“Well, looks like we have an agreement,” Damian pulls out his hands for a handshake.
Melody stares at his hands. Then, she crosses her arms on her chest. “I’m sorry, Mr. Angelo but you told me there’s no physical touch between us.”
She smirks at him. Her tone fills with mocking. Damian’s hand twitched as he heard that from her. He glares at her as she dares to use his words against him.
He pulls his hands slowly, “Excuse me about it.”
“Anyway, are you some kind of… mafia?” Melody questioned just wanting to confirm it.
“No, we’re just a freelancer,” he answers sarcastically.
“I take that as a yes,” Melody rolls her eyes and gets up. “I will be in my room to do… whatever I want to do.”
She leaves the dining room. Damian is about to look away but jolts as she comes back and grabs a loaf of bread from the table.
“Breakfast is important. Your fault that I don’t have an appetite,” she sticks her tongue out and finally leaves the dining room.
Damian frowns and sighs while he shakes his head.
Weird girl.
