Alex’s POV
Jeremy was locked up, exactly where he should be.
I had sent a correspondent to his original pack to deliver a message of concern. I was hoping to get a return message within the day or if he could even make a physical appearance, it would be much appreciated.
I slipped out of the bathroom and pulled a towel with me, I dried my hair and my eyes caught the necklace I had picked from the ground just yesterday. It was Jessica’s.
I didn’t hear from her since the night the gun had gone off and Delo had been killed. I sent a guard to go check on her and like the other members of the pack they were alright, safe and oblivious.
Only a few chiefs had been aware of what happened at the packhouse and I would prefer to keep it that way. I needed to see Jessica, she had escaped all fine and great, but there had been tension, clear and thick between us during the whole course of being tied up.
I changed into a shirt, a lazy strolling shirt and put on little deodorant out of habit, Miami was not a place to have nightlife while smelling like a piece of shit. I’ll oooo
My favorite pastime was not a stroll to the Dungeon to have a tit a tat with the same person that had us locked up for a day and a half. I had to commend him for his fear, I wasn’t usually ‘captured’
“Good morning Alpha!” One of the guards in training called out to me, I had subjected every one of them to training and I invited all the former guards to orient them.
I decided to watch them for sometime before going over to the dungeon. They seemed remorseful, but remorse was not what soldiers should be feeling, anger, rage and unused energy.
“You guys fight like weaklings,” I said and they all stopped short. I noticed the malicious eyes and the grumbling sounds but I ignored them.
“Take it easy on them,” my wolf pleaded, but I had every intention of not taking it seriously with them.
There has never really been a cause for extreme defense, not in my father’s time and not even in the light years of my tenure so this reaction was expected but I wouldn’t understand why people bearing the tag ‘warriors’ or ‘guards’ won’t be proactive when it comes to vigilance.
“But alpha! We’ve only just begun!” Arthur Lockwood said, he was the second in command to the head warrior and my gaze landed on him.
I watched the ripple of his arms and I could sense the lack of skill in him. He was just strong but had no tactics, I guessed one of the younger ranked Warriors would bring him down.
“Come at me,” I ordered suddenly and there was quiet, all forty something warriors were quiet as they watched him and me.
“I do not understand you,” he argued and I remembered he was one of the few that believed battling was far from me, just a ‘mere hotel guy’ that only came around to inspect the pack and act like he knew what he was doing.
“Come at me. Five, four, three, two….” Predictably, he ran forward and charged a punch towards me, I knew that was exactly what he was going to do so I dodged instead of saying one and he stumbled but didn’t fall as he punched the air instead.
There were hoots and most of his teammates were cheering him on, he looked angry, unbridled anger was not needed in a warrior.
“Unbridled anger should drive you, not blind you.” I said as Arthur threw me another punch and I so easily caught it, I placed him in a headlock and under two seconds I had him on the floor.
I heard gasps from every warrior present, followed by applause.
“Skill, you are all strong and brave but lack skill and the correct sort of emotion to deal with war situations.” I explained and they stared at me with profound admiration, a newly found one.
“Hence, I will endeavor to train with you. I will battle all of you by tomorrow, every single one of you will understand what being out-powered means.” I said and they looked like they doubted.
I bet they were already analyzing who and who was going to beat me. I guess it was time they realized why I had so much power within the pack and in all of Miami.
“We’ll see you next time alpha!” Someone shouted as I walked away, I didn’t even have a single stain on my body, I was disappointed.
The dungeon was like every other dungeon, maybe a little more dingy. I hated the PTSD it caused me, I couldn’t help but remember when I also had shared a room, a correction, a hell hole with cockroaches, ants and rats.
The guards assigned were more vigilant, the toughest of the lost and they stood at both ends of the gate, I wouldn’t have them being anything less than active.
“He’s asleep alpha!” The shorter of them said to me and I nodded, he handed me the keys and I didn’t open the gate just yet.
I couldn’t see him because he hid away in a corner, I only saw his feets and they were dusty and crusty. The grounds of the dungeon were untilled dry and hard, they hadn’t given him food yet.
His rogues were thrown in other cells in the pack, some had been terribly injured while others were, wherever rogues went after they died.
“Wake up ass hole,” I called out to him and he stirred, at least I saw his boot move.
“Wake up. It’s not a holiday in France,” I added and moved away quickly and the rock merely passed my ear. “Are you even sane at all?”
“I’ve been keeping that stone to destroy your nose since you had me kept here,” he answered, his tone was weak but I didn’t miss the thick disdain there in his voice, he sounded like he was going to attack me anytime.
“Your terrible pain didn’t work, I can feel your sentiments,” I said to him and he laughed, a thick mocking sound.
“You’re an alpha but I had you held hostage for two days, you have bigger problems, it was shameful seeing you seated beside your subjects like a beggar. I still feel better whenever I remember the image. Even my brother is a better Alpha than you and we’re not even on good terms,” he said and I tried not to get angry. He was telling the truth and nobody but me could be blamed for letting my guards down even for a second.
“You talk too much for someone who is still locked up.” I commented and he laughed, a really sinister sound.
“You talk too much for a failed Alpha, you need to get a life of better still abandon the illusion that you’re all that.” He responded and I tried not to be impressed by his resilience.
I was quiet, I jingled the keys to make him know that his freedom was still in my hands, literally.
“Who the hell are you and what do you want?” I asked him finally and he was quiet, he crawled out of the darkness and I finally saw his dark hair and tired eyes.
“Come in and I will tell you,” he said in a challenging tone and that was exactly why I put the keys into the lock and opened the door.
He laughed as he saw what I was doing, I placed the key outside the door and went over to where he was. I pulled him up by his collar and he didn’t even bother to struggle with me.
“You’re not funny. Tell me, what the hell is it you want and what are you doing here in my pack?” I repeated and he looked at me with rage and disgust, he was probably my worst enemy.
“I came here to stay, not because of anything. Liked a woman, you took her after you rejected her and now I want to return to my sinister way. I want to get my own pack back and I want you to do it for me.” He said without breaking a sweat, he looked serious and I almost laughed.
“I literally sent a message to the alpha of the Blue moon pack, he told a supposed to respond as soon as he can.” I informed him and his eyes widened.
“You dullard! Who told you to do that?” He asked me and I was not hallucinating when I saw a flicker of fear in his eyes.
“Freddie Langdon is your brother I presume. I can also tell that you’re scared of him so I guess it wasn’t a bad decision after all. I sent him a letter, he either comes and gets you or we kill you, he has until this evening to respond.” I informed him, I drafted him the letter with anger and irritation.
I didn’t even know who they were, but I had hated both brothers just from hearing their names.
“He won’t respond.” Jeremy said with certainty, sure and smug.
“Are you so unloved? I mean nobody should care for a monster creature like you but even your brother? I doubt it,” I teased and he smiled, a knowing smile.
“I did get the woman you’re in love with to bed and before you did.” He said and I wanted to punch him. Didn’t want him to use her as leverage one day so I said nothing.
What did he know about me or what I felt for Jessica? She was annoying, manipulative and attractive. What was special about that?
“She’s dumb for even associating with you, her biggest mistake yet.” I said indifferently and he chuckled.
“But that’s not what this is about. He’s a beast. He would destroy you before you can understand what he stands for,” Jeremy said and i wondered how he had fallen out with him if he truly was what he was making him out to be.
“At least he can take you away,” I answered and kicked his legs. He fell on the ground, he was weak.
“You’re making a mistake, calling Freddie here is the biggest mistake you’ve made. You’re going to regret it,” he said and I heard the honesty in his voice.
“Tell me,” I ordered.
