Evelyn’s POV
“So who’s that?” I asked as we passed a floor length portrait, he had given me stories of the people I saw in the pictures and I now knew that they were three.
He had a sister and the other was a brother, but this time I could tell that they were estranged.
He paused in front of it, and held my hand tightly as though he was scared I would run away. He shouldn’t bother about that, i did like it here, and Miss Lu’ was nice to me.
If I even wanted to leave there was nowhere to run to and it would be the most stupid thing I did since thinking I could make a deal with a motor car racer, ‘don Fredo’ whom even though he wasn’t the worst of men, now held me as a prisoner of his love.
The inside of the house was exactly how I had imagined, it looked like an ancient Victorian house inside here and it was intriguing that they mostly still lived like that, well, aside the wolf concept.
He randomly said things like he wanted to wolf out and I was confused, he had even suggested he showed me how it worked but I refused.
I couldn’t fathom the science of a human transforming into a wolf, it was foreign to me.
“That is Jeremy,” Freddy simply said and I was automatically curious to hear about him.
He freely gave me information about every other person and most times told me about them before he even mentioned their names and he defying the process in which he had followed all through our tour made me want to know who this handsome man -who looked so much like him was.
“Well?” I asked and he wanted to move so I didn’t move, his dark and brooding eyes clapped on me and I remained unflinching.
“Who is that?” I repeated and even to my ears it sounded like a threat.
He sighed and placed his arm on my shoulder. “Why do you even want to know?” he asked me and I knew I didn’t have a valid answer but I raised my chin up and blinked repeatedly at him.
“Why does he get to be an exception? I know of Freyja Langdon and even of Miss Lu, and even the cat you had when you were twelve but you don’t think I would be more interested when you don’t want to talk about one person?” I asked him and I saw he understand what i meant.
“Jeremy is my brother, we grew up together but . I wasn’t interested in being alpha and there was an alternative of him taking over and I was fine with it. He was very good at paperwork but then, that’s the ouches of Alpha Hood. You don’t just need to be good at paperwork, you need to be ruthless and able to defend the pack, anybody could do the paperwork but the defense was the most essential,” he was saying and I listened with renewed interest, doting on every word he said.
“Go on please,” I urged him and he smiled, at this point we were resting on the banister still looking at the family portrait.
“You must be a gossiper,” he commented and the funny thing was that I didn’t even know, maybe I was, maybe I wasn’t.
“I don’t even know,”
“Well, it didn’t take long for trouble to break out in the pack and as the original alpha I wasn’t in sight. They had to call me in when things started to go south, the thing is, I think the moon goddess assigns a special skill for a leader and it is different from every other skill another wolf would have. Jeremy didn’t have it, I did. He was destined to be a beta, I had to come back to town and when I did, I infact conquered all other packs. They wanted me back as alpha and this time, I couldn’t run from responsibility,” he finished and I was intrigued by the way he spoke and the deep rooted passion he felt for the pack.
“That is heartbreaking, and I must say, it baffled me how these packs work. So battles unseen to the rest of world occur here?” I asked him and he laughed.
“Sometimes the earthquakes you hear are wolves fighting.” He joked and my mind involuntarily thought of the man that was staring back at me with piercing green eyes. “I do feel sorry for your brother, how did you guys fight though?”
“He said I was a betrayal and used him to get things done then I showed up to act the hero. Believe me, I couldn’t even care less. I felt sad but three years ago, he left here raging with fury and threatening to avenge the deceit, we haven’t heard from his since then.” Freddy explained and I wondered how much he would have to be feeling. I couldn’t deal with the idea of heart ache and that made my heart go out to Jeremy Langdon, out seeking revenge.
“Forget about my twisted family shenanigans. Let’s finish out your,” he said, breaking me out of my thoughts and it was much appreciated.
“I like to know about your twisted family shenanigans. You remember I don’t have right? It’s interesting to hear so much history and well troubles, how does it make you feel?” I asked, digging at my empathetic side.
“I haven’t felt deeply in a long time, I learnt how to brush it off and so far it has been working fine for me. I even learnt how to navigate this place without a beta, and what do you think?” He asked me and I smiled, I was going to flatter him.
“It’s well, quite alright, you’ve been doing a great job.” In fact, he’s been doing a perfect job. The place was safe and I almost wished all of civilization was as coordinated as his pack was.
Voices rang from downstairs and he looked at me with amusement, I heard female voice and I almost began to think it was a hidden bride, with the excitement that stained his face.
“What is that?” I asked him and he pulled me along with him.
“It is my sister! She’s here!”
