Alex’s POV
It was dark when we got to the pack house and I subconsciously tried to shield Jessica from anything that may remotely look like harm.
“I’m alright Alex, those at danger are the pack members.” She said as we slid into the back of my vehicle, we just landed from the airport and as we drove to the packhouse my brain thought a million different thoughts.
“If something does happen to them, I need you so we can procreate and make a new generation of werewolf,” I teased and the look she shot me told me she wasn’t willing to joke about the state of the pack.
The whole atmosphere had an air of tension and it stank. I was wary and on alert, I didn’t know how strong Jessica was or how far her abilities went.
She did look like she didn’t give up so I guessed her face in warfront would be quite similar.
“I just hope my family is safe, they didn’t listen when I begged them to follow,” Jessica said under her breath and I imagined how she must be feeling having the knowledge that her family’s life could be in jeopardy.
“I think they’ll be fine,” I muttered under my breath and I saw her close her eyes from the side of my eyes.
I had a persistent headache, gnawing and spreading. I was even more tired because I couldn’t even dwell on it. I had a whole rogue problem in front of me and it seemed like my head was going to blow off from the pressure that I hadn’t seen yet.
“What is that?” Jessica asked as the vehicle made a turn on the path leading to the palace. I stopped and I knew it was time to change form.
“Let’s get down,” I ordered and she did, I stopped out and I was immediately hit with an aura that screamed unsafe.
I could hear grindings and screaming and I was disappointed in the warriors and the pack. Why would they allow rogues to invade them to the point that they had the upper hand when it came to a toe to toe battle.
“This is so stupid. What happened to their sense of discernment or awareness? These are freaking wolves!” I muttered and Jessica held on to my hand as we walked further down the path. It was eerily quiet again and we were even closer to the packhouse.
The packhouse was relatively farther from the rest of civilization and it was possible they started with the packhouse.
‘Don’t scare the lady,’ my wolf advised and I grunted.
“This is so messed up, I shouldn’t have left.” I thought out loud and I could read Jessica’s thoughts at that moment. She was feeling guilty, like she had been the one to make me leave.
“It’s not your fault. Stop feeling so special,” I teased and she let out a laugh, it echoed and that made me even more scared.
The guards were not at the front gate. First sign of a problem.
“Go through the back, wolf out.” I told her and she turned and so did I, I went through the door growling and snarling.
I sensed the presence of a gun but the smell got to me first, I attacked immediately, the rogue was caught or guard and I was able to cause him great injuries.
My hearing was more sensitive and I wandered up the stairs leading to the main hall. I heard muffled noises and I was angered, all of the recent happenings in my life were going to be my fuel. I was counting on Jessica to also think of her family when she attacked.
“Who’s there?” A human voice called out, it sounded oddly familiar. I made no noise as I approached the hall, I could see from where I was that one of the butlers was tied up, he wasn’t even in his wolf form.
“Come out now before I use a bullet on your pathetic wolf ass,” I knew who it was immediately. It was Delo!
“Who’s that?” Another voice asked the pathetic cow and I wondered who that one was.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s a trick of…..” he didn’t get the words out before I pounced on him, I scratched a finger over his eyes and saw the blood pour from every part of his body.
A gunshot tore through the hall and it only took a second for me to realize it was me it had hit.
I fell to the ground and watched as a man came over to me, he looked at me and ran his booted feet into my side. I changed back into human form and he smirked when he saw me, unheld tightly to my thighs where he had hit me.
“We finally meet ‘Alpha’,” he looked familiar, so familiar that it ached. “Before you think too hard, I’m Jessica’s lover. The one you’re trying to steal from me.”
I fell back to the ground, was this what this was about?
Evelyn’s POV
We had walked for a long time and when I finally saw what looked like a mansion I heaved a sigh of relief. He looked tired but still so handsome, unless I didn’t know what lust felt like, but I knew what I was feeling was close to the desire I had felt with Jason.
“Is your pack a jungle?” I asked him and he chucked, his lips curling, his grip on my hands tightened, as though my question meant I wanted to leave him and go to a far away land.
“You wouldn’t say that if you were an opp. It’s the best around all of Cali, and even down to Miami. No record of losing a fight since I began my tenure, so much so that it got boring and I had to join an illegal racing ring.” He explained and I was intrigued. Was that why he was always itching for a fight? I mean it would explain a lot.
“Bragging?” I teased and he smiled, holding me closer to him.
“Facts. This here, is the house of the head female servant, Lu’ she kind of raised me after my mother died.” He explained and I felt almost scared that he was telling me things about himself exposing his heart to me.
“I’m sorry about that,” I whispered and he smiled.
“She died when giving birth to my younger sister.” He said and I nodded.
“You have a younger sister?” He asked me and it was his turn to nod.
“And here is my pride, and pride of the Blue moon pack. This is the packhouse.” He announced, gesturing towards a very large, very intimidating building that looked much like where this man would come from.
It was every color but white. Bronze, brown, even gray, it was like a castle, a beautiful ancient castle.
“This is beautiful,” I muttered and he looked smug, proud even. He led me towards the entrance and I watched the dramatics as some guards hurried over to meet us.
I didn’t know how to act, and thankfully he didn’t leave me alone. He held my hands even as the guards bowed in greeting.
“Alert Lu of a guest and have her prepare the guest room,” he was saying just as a healthily chubby woman ran in, she came bearing smiles and good graces and I wondered if she also was a wolf.
“Oh my sweet boy! Where have you been! You’ve left me for so long,” the woman shrieked as she ran to Freddy, surprisingly, he spread out his arms and she remained there.
I could scent her from where I stood, she smelt like herbs and ginger. Her white washed dress looked neat enough and the whole place was homely and welcoming.
I was instantly in love with the whole place and it’s grandeur, it’s welcoming aura. She finally noticed me and her face brightened, I gave her a smile in return not knowing what to do.
“Who is this beautiful and tired young lady?” She asked Freddy and he didn’t hide his blush.
“This is Red. She’s my friend and needs a place to stay,” Freddy told her and I was quite satisfied with his response because she looked like she was already planning a marriage ceremony.
“Hello Red, if he won’t introduce me I would. My name is Lu and I’m the house keeper and main decision maker in this palace.” She beamed and I knew I loved her, I felt lucky taht it had been him and not someone else that found me. “Welcome to Blue moon pack.”
I thought of Jason briefly but quickly evacuated any more thoughts of him, I doubted if he would even be looking for me or he was still hoping I’ll do magically remember.
“Thank you Lu, I appreciate you having me.” I told her and I meant it. This was probably the nicest thing someone has done for me, bringing me to his home and nurturing me.
“You see, I love her already, come on let me fix you a nice bath and then a hot meal and tell you all about the almighty Alpha Fredrick.” She announced and I followed her not bothering to look at Freddy.
Maybe things weren’t so bad.
