Evelyn Pov
I will get to find out that there was nothing as scary as a gang fight in the most worrisome way.
I slept late, sleeping came hard for me. We finally moved from the hotel to a small motel in California.
He said he had a small cottage in Notting hill and after our stay in the motel we would go there, I was patient, well I didn’t have any other choice but to be patient.
It was a little past three in the morning when he stood up and I heard shuffling noises. There were war chants coming from outside the motel and I didn’t move. I waited to see his reaction and what he was going to do.
“Those fuckers,” he was angry and he was going out, no weapon, no gun nothing but himself and he was going out to face a ton of yelling people.
How would I survive here without him?
I remained still as the noise outside went to a higher level.
“Fuck you Fredo!” They were shouting and I heard sounds of vehicles charging up.
Did it have to do with the biker guys? When they ran away Fredo.. Freddy had followed them and returned looking like a war star.
I listened now and wondered how he intended to face all of them, it was quiet and my curiosity led me to stand up. I tightened the robe around me and tiptoed to the balcony facing the front yard of the motel.
The quiet was eery and the cold night breeze was stagnant and non existent, the air smelt like blood and something darker, dangerous….. glinting eyes!
I could see a creature like a dog from where I stood, the moonlight could show that it was bleeding from its mouth and everywhere. It was rather big for a dog and my foolish heart pushed me towards it, forgetting my search for Freddy.
I almost fell when I stumbled upon something warm and steady on the floor.
I screamed when I saw it was a man! A man clad in black. The animal turned and looked at me like it knew me. It has done this! His eyes were yellow in the darkness and it was rather controlled for a wolf.
“What are you and what have you done with Freddy?” I asked foolishly, there was still not a sound, everybody around me was dead. All of the ‘enemies’ lay lifeless around me and I was scared my captor was one of them.
“How am I going to survive now if you’ve eaten my guardian you monster!” I cried, I didn’t care about my ‘survival’ then, I wanted to be dead, anything but have to face this much grief.
I fell to the ground and cried, I was still there when a most unexpected transformation occurred in my presence. Somehow, the ferocious wolf became a naked Freddy and I could only stare in shock at the unexpected sight. My tears were frozen and I was livid.
“What the hell!”
Alex POV
I woke up in my apartment, I didn’t know when I had gotten there I was laying face down on my bed. I could feel the starting point of a headache and I groaned, I had a lot of cheap drinks again last night.
I don’t know if it was a false alarm or really my wolf instinct telling me of another living breathing creature in my room. I turned around and was shocked out of my wits when I saw Jessica’s dreamy eyes staring down at me.
The cause of my pains and the burden of my burdens.
“Nice to see you too Alex, you look really bad.” She said and covered me more with the blanket, it was then I realized my entire torso was exposed and so was one of my legs. The blanket barely covered my baby making area.
“I can’t say the same for you,” I muttered and stood up in my full glory, unbothered about the presence. I think the cheap booze also had something to do with that.
“Decency! Please!” She shrieked and I smiled, the gesture hurt my head but I wasn’t going to miss out on a good mockery then.
“You didn’t come all the way here to hide from me.” I teased and I saw that she was facing the door, away from me.
Typical Jess
“I’m decent, you can turn,” I said as I did the rope on my sweatpants, I gave up halfway and ran my hands through my hair.
She turned and accessed me, her gray eyes lingered on the line of hair that disappeared after my waistband and I saw the flicker of desire in her eyes before it disappeared. “I won’t call that decent.”
“Why are you here Jessica? You just chased me away from my own pack, why would you come here so quickly?” I asked her and watched as a renewed skepticism seeped into her expression.
She turned serious and I folded my hands on my chest and waited for her to say something.
“Can we have this conversation somewhere else, it’s kind of a big deal.” She thought out loud, I sighed and led her to the kitchen, a small dining area was set around the counter and as she settled on a stool I went around to brewing coffee.
I still had the attractive hangover and I wasn’t going to be wincing every three seconds around this lady that I was attracted to. Oddly.
“My boss resigned,” she started. I knew, that I made sure of it.
“Delo. He said he was going to stay as long as he wanted, reality finally set in, he’s a greedy mongrel.” I added and she raised a warning brow at me, I shrugged and was quiet, waiting for what she wanted to say.
“He left a truckload of information before he left. He didn’t particularly tell me, I kind of eavesdropped,” she blushed and I held back my chuckle. She was being guilty about listening to other people’s conversation? Who was this girl?
“Well so what happened?” I asked her as my coffee pot dinged and I walked over to turn off the machine, I drew out two mugs. Filled them up and turned to her, “I don’t have sugar. Milk or honey?”
“You’re not listening, there’s an impending fire on the mountain,” she insisted and I sighed, and added the honey into her mug and passed it to her. She collected it reluctantly, but before I turned I saw her take a sip from it. “I mean it, really.”
I poured a lot of milk into mine, it had always helped with my hangovers and I was counting on it now.
“Okay speak,” I turned to face her now, stirring my breakfast coffee.
“Delo says he was happy to sell the company because there are rogues being injected into the pack. He says they are in disguise as local wolves. I fear it’s not a lie because we have been hearing muffled reports of attacks within the pack. Last night there was an attack in the pack square and ten were injured. Ten wolves were injured! It doesn’t make any sense Alex, the pack is scared,”
I stared intently at her and I could see the worry in her eyes, it meant it was true and my pack was under attack. My hangover became subtle and my coffee was distasteful.
“How sure are you of this?” I asked her simply and she nodded, looking a bit nervous.
“A hundred and the percent, it’s serious, that’s why I came,” she muttered and I stood up and made for my room.
“Where are you going?” She called out to me.
“Back to Duval Park of course!”
