Jason’s Pov
“Have you found more information about the curse?” I asked as I re entered the room of the pack house. I had just turned and I’ve been doing that a lot and I believed it had to do with the turn of events.
Alex was searching for her and so were the intelligence community in the pack. I didn’t know how I felt about it, a little guilty definitely, but deep down, deep in my heart from the same place I missed her, I didn’t want her to be found yet.
Forgetting most of her life was disastrous and I didn’t know how fast I was going to find the way to break the curse, I wanted her to relive her life.
I wanted her to be able to make a clear decision if she was really going to choose me, I didn’t want the supernatural bond being her only reason for seeking me.
I wanted her to have a million choices and choose me, just like she had before.
I sighed and slumped on the chair, it seemed like Chloe had been talking for a while.
“Earth to Jason!” She muttered and I looked over at her again. “Can you even hear me?”
I nodded, “yeah. What did you say?”
“The seer said he personally can’t come up with a cure but if you will read some of the hidden books in the pack library. Something about you having access to them,” she asked and I nodded.
The ‘hidden books’ had been passed down from generations, they contained the secret of the packs and they were not required to be touched unless trivial issues were arising.
Was this to be considered a trivial issues? Well the future of the pack hierarchy depended on whether or not he found this estranged Luna and brought her back home.
“I’m heading to the library now,” I announced and she immediately stood up. She has been sticking with him since he came, Johnson was less than subtle with his expression of anger and disdain, it had been worse since the press conference.
“I will follow you to the library, let me just have my bath.” Chloe said hurriedly and I had no other choice but to wait for her.
I sat back in my chair and memories of Evelyn in this same living room came swarming me.
“This is large, I love it,” she said under her breath, her voice was soft and enchanting, I loved it.
“I can’t say I’m awed by it, been here for forever, but you, I’m not sure I could ever get tired of seeing your face. I am awed by you,” I whispered and drew her closer to me. My hands went around her waist and her green eyes lingered on me.
Her floral dress was perfect on her and I wanted all of her.
“Show me…..”
She had muttered and I had done that for the rest of that day, I lied when I said this living room didn’t enchant me. It did.
Every part of the room reminds me of her.
“I’m back, let’s go.” Chloe said, her voice stealing me from my imaginations. She was dressed in a pink floral dress and her blonde curls fell calculatedly over her back. She looked familiar, she looked beautiful.
“You look good,” I commented and I saw a pink stain creep into her face.
“Don’t let me bring my claws out for you,” she responded, laughing and walked to the door. “Are you coming or not?”
I stood up, and joined her at the door. “I am”
We walked to the library, it was at the other side of the pack and most times it has been in my schedule to bring it closer to the pack square. I wanted to do it after getting mated to Evelyn but we hadn’t seen that through so it kind of left the topic.
“You saw her.” Chloe said, breaking me out of my thoughts and I turned to look at her, there was a hint of hurt in her eyes and I was confused.
“Saw who?” I asked, I just wanted to go to the library and get the books, dramatics were not in my top five priorities.
“You saw Evelyn in Miami. I entered your head, I am not sorry I did that. But you saw her and you lied that you didn’t, why did you lie, Jason?” She asked me and I could only stare at her in awe.
We stood a few more minutes away from the library and she looked like he was going to burst into tears any second. “What has that got to do with anything? I didn’t lie, I didn’t just mention it and I didn’t think it was necessary since there was no improvement. Why the hell am I supposed to account my life to you?”
“You lied! You act so indifferent you don’t even care…” she was saying and I zoomed off the conversations as a persistent heat wafted through the air.
I was distracted already and my eyes caught orange flames.
“Fire!” I muttered under my breath
“What are you talking about?” Chloe asked and I started to run towards the library.
“Holy moon! The library is on fire!” Chloe echoed and we turned and immediately made the distance.
Panic course through me because why now? It was raging hot and the flames had already caught half of the place.
“How do we get the book?” Chloe asked me and I said nothing.
I decided to call back up, my wolf gave two howls and I immediately went to the section where we hid extinguishers, I handed one to her and we both tried to take out the fire. It was futile as the fire kept on pouring more violently and hotter.
“Maybe I should try and get the book?” Chloe asked with concern and I shook my head.
“Don’t try to go in there,” I ordered her, the smell of burning books and burning bricks were everywhere and I was on the verge of losing it, more wolves came and some returned to get more extinguishers and we all tried, throwing sand, water, the lather but it wasn’t enough.
“The fire is getting hotter! Chloe, return to the pack and remain there!” I yelled in the midst of the heat.
“I’m not going anywhere” she said stubbornly and confined to fight the fire with the rest of us.
There was a loud explosion….
