Chloe POV
It was all of my doings that caused an evil spirit to walk into Evelyn, it was something I planned out with the seer of the Pack.
I watched the scene unfold, scared to come close to the front of the field. Jason tried to hold her, but she refused and pushed him away, asking him to stay away from her.
The guards were on alert when the priest announced to those who were willing to hear, that an evil spirit walked into her.
I watched, happy and sad at the same time. I was happy that my planned-out scheme with the divine seer came to pass, and sad about Evelyn’s condition at the same time.
“Call the seer!” Jason screamed at a Wolf, closest to the scene that minute. “Get the seer for me this minute!” He yelled again, trying to touch Evelyn who refused to be touched.
On listening to his request, I rushed out of the scene in the name of calling the seer who watched from his shrine window. I rushed fast, so no one would get to the shrine before me.
There was something I had in mind to tell him. I arrived at the shrine to meet no one there, heaved a sigh of relief, and faced the man who moped at me.
“It worked,” I announced.
He nodded, walked away from the window, and took a seat on the old-looking bed.
“I saw that,” he said to me. “The Alpha has asked that I come to the field.”
“Exactly,” I said. “You must not do anything about it. Nothing at all to bring the spirit out of her, it is there to stay.”
The man heaved a sigh. “This was a bad idea,” regret pulled up on his face. “I wish I did not listen to you, Chloe.”
“You may return the money I paid you,” I said. “And reverse the curse if you deem it fit.”
“I can’t return your money,” he heaved another sigh and rose to her feet. “There is nothing I can do about it, but send her out of the Pack.”
I nodded, satisfied with what I heard the old man say. “The Alpha has asked for you. He must not know what has happened.”
The old man nodded, got up from the bed, and made a gesture with one of his hands. “Leave my shrine, you are not fit to be here.”
Who cared? Me?
I walked out the next moment, satisfied with myself for successfully telling him what to do, so as not to implicate us.
Back at the field, Jason screamed at the top of his voice. “Take me too,” he yelled at whoever it was that had done what happened. “You coward. Take me, too.”
I felt like a coward for a moment.
It should have been the two of them, but I spared him. My reason was plain.
Jason is the man I am in love with and will do anything to be with him. Anything besides killing a soul, because there was a way to get rid of Evelyn which I did not go through.
Why can’t he notice me? I thought, joining the rest of the Wolves to calm him down. Now, Evelyn sat on the floor, watching us like we were strangers.
“Calm down,” I begged, bending to console him. “I have called the seer, and he will be here as soon as possible.”
He said nothing to me.
Why not? Even if he was going to ignore the rest of the Wolves, did he have to ignore me also? I was hurt and shifted from the scene, not trying my best to understand what the Alpha went through.
The seer graced the scene after a while.
It seemed as though Evelyn had come down a bit, although she said humorous words to our hearing.
“Nothing can be done about it, my lord,” the seer said on arrival. “I have tried my best to see if I can remove the spirit from her but it won’t work.”
Some Wolves began to cry at the news.
I faked tears, too. The last thing that would happen is this little handiwork of mine and the seer, coming to the light in the presence of Wolves who would do anything to get rid of us-no matter who we are to the Pack.
They would stone us with death stones without hesitation, and bury us the moment we drop dead to the floor.
“What do you mean?” Jason got up from the floor where he sat. “Did you consult the moon goddess?”
“Yes,” the old man told a lie.
“She is sorry on your behalf because there is nothing she can do about it.”
Jason fell back on the floor.
Jordan helped him to his feet moments later and asked the seer on his behalf since he had become weak. “What can be done about it?”
“Nothing,” the seer said again. He walked to Evelyn who was seated on the floor after asking for a moment. “Leave her.”
Nothing happened.
“It’s not working,” Jason said, looking away.
“There is just one thing I can do,” the seer said after a while of faking incantations on the woman who moped at him. “This is the only thing I can work on that will work on the Luna-to-be.”
I hated the fact that he called her that, but didn’t mind. She was not going to be a Luna after all, so it was less of a bigger deal.
“What?”
“Send her out of the Pack,” the seer replied to the disappointment of the Wolves who happened to be at the scene. “The other Wolves may get infected with this if she tarries in the Pack, and this will be nothing but a threat to the lives of many of you.”
I heart murmur.
The Wolves did not like the idea of an evil spirit, walking into them although they felt bad about what had happened.
“How is she supposed to walk out with the garment that is not meant to leave the Pack?” Jordan asked.
“She will take it off when I cast her out of the Pack,” the seer replied and I nodded. “Give me a go-ahead and I shall do it.”
Jordan faced Jason who said nothing.
It was too much on him and I understood the pain that comes with losing something or someone you believed would stay with you for the rest of your life.
Jason said nothing for the first few minutes.
He sat on the chair he was seated at, with Evelyn by his side. “When will she return?” He asked at some point, then got up to his feet. “Will she return to complete the wedding rites?”
“Yes,” the seer said. “And that is when the spirit leaves her.”
“When will the spirit leave her?” It was Jordan who asked. “How soon do we expect her?”
“This is an answer I cannot deliver,” the old man, choked with questions, cried. “We let time take its course as the case may be.”
Soon enough, the seer said words to Evelyn who lay on the floor already. The garment she was wearing was dirty with dust that covered it thoroughly.
The seer began with his incantations and chants that only he could understand. We watched, waiting for the worst to happen and Evelyn got up on her feet.
She turned around to mop at everyone present at the field before taking off the garment and dumping it on the floor, revealing the items she wore underneath the garment.
In finality, she headed to the gate after dropping the garment to the floor. This time, a smile appeared on my face.
