Jason POV
It was the most awaited morning. A morning Wolves of the Silver Crescent Pack waited for all these while, the same as me who happened to be their Alpha.
I had woken up happy, and nervous at the same time. Evelyn, my wife-to-be, had returned to her room since the night of our moment together, and taken pills to avoid getting pregnant.
Who was I to stop her from doing something her tradition demands? She had done enough by agreeing to get married in the first place, a favor I least expected from her.
Jordan, my Betta had woken me up that morning. I sat up on the bed, thinking of a way to walk into the bathroom for a bath. Jordan walked out after a while of announcing the time.
I got up and walked to the bathroom for a bath, after several minutes of contemplation. Soon enough, I walked out and was ready to get dressed. The guard at the door listened to my instructions and called on Jordan who had gone for a bath-into my room.
“Finally,” the man heaved a sigh at the sight of me, looking fresh from a bath. “How can I help?” He asked, settling on the bed.
He was all dressed and ready for the ceremony. The same as the other Wolves I could not see who were on the outer part of the Pack.
“Where is Evelyn?” I asked my best man who got up to pick the selected choice of outfit from the wall where it hung.
“Getting dressed by her maids,” Jordan replied. I took a seat on the chair with a mirror in the room and gave a nod. “Why do you ask, Jason?”
“I want to know the whereabouts of my woman,” I scoffed at my man while I got dressed. “Help with my shoes,” I said when I was halfway done with wearing the chosen outfit, frustrated at Jordan for not knowing the right thing to do at a time like this.
And I was set.
In a few minutes, I got ready for my wedding and took a seat on the bed, leaving the mirror side for Jordan who sat on the reading chair.
I was served some food by the maid who brought in a tray of food to the room on Jordan’s order. I ate to my satisfaction and my man and I talked at length for some time before attempting to walk out of the room.
While we found our way out, the Wolves hailed and chanted at the sight of a well-dressed Alpha who was about to claim the woman he loves for a Luna.
I was happy, very happy that the day we seek had finally come. While the Wolves hailed, I waved at them and walked to the well-adorned field, ready for the wedding ceremony.
“All hail the Alpha,” the oldest man in the Pack ordered the others. “Long life, Alpha Jason.”
I and the Wolves exchanged the usual pleasantries before the ceremony began. I took a seat on one of the chairs, leaving the other for the bride and Luna-to-be who was yet to make it to the field. What was keeping her? I wondered and turned to ask my Beta once in a while.
“Relax,” he would always say. “She will join us soon enough.”
He was right.
Soon enough, the Wolves cheered at the sight of the most beautiful woman I have ever set my eyes on, rising to their feet.
I could sit back if I wanted to, but refused and joined the others on their feet. It was in a bid to have a clearer view of the woman I would claim as mine on this day, before impregnating her later on at night.
The cheers came to an end.
The man in charge of binding us together climbed the stage with a candle in his hand.
“I greet us all,” he began. “Wolves of the Silver Crescent Pack in the Eastern world of Miami.” He added, placing the candlestick on the small table next to him.
“We greet thee.” Myself and the rest of the Wolves said in response, save Evelyn who was yet to understand how things went on in the Pack.
“We all have an idea what we are gathered here to do,” the man said. A Wolf mounted the stage and handed the usual white garment to him. He took some time putting it on and then faced us one more time. “We are here after a long time of searching for answers, to do what is right.”
The Wolves cheered, as expected.
Who wouldn’t?
It took us a long time to arrive at this place, and for one moment: I thanked the moon goddess, knowing she could hear me utter my thanks. Evelyn looked beautiful when I turned to face her, she winked at me and then looked away, watching the man who was preaching on the stage.
The Wolves’ wedding commandment was read by the man who played the role of a priest on the stage. He read to myself and Evelyn from page to page, ensuring to ask both of us if we understood what he was saying.
Evelyn never shook her head for once. She understood perfectly well and gave a nod each time the man asked a question, the same as me who gave a nod each time.
“We may rise,” he said. “The couples should stay back in their seats.”
I remained on my chair with Evelyn who sat back, closing her eyes. I had intended to ask the reason why she closed her eyes, but that would be later in the evening-when the ceremony was over and we retired back to my room.
The Wolves chanted the usual wedding chants I heard them chant when a wedding took place in the Pack. Evelyn said something I could not properly hear-perhaps, it was the way they responded to prayers in their world.
“Thank you for the chants,” the man in a white garment said after a while of lighting the candlestick he came with. “The Wolves may take their seats and the program will resume.”
It was the time to make her my wife, finally. I cheerfully rose to my feet before Evelyn who took some time due to the weight of the garment she was wearing.
The priest came down from the stage where he stood, holding the candle and ready to do the needful. “It is time to bond Evelyn as wife to the Alpha,” he said, raising the candle above our heads. “Then, we shall proceed with Luna’s coronation.”
Wolves cheered again.
Evelyn and I shifted meters apart from each other, giving space for the priest to walk into the center of us-just as expected. He began with incantations only himself could understand, while the rest of the Wolves chanted on their part.
It took a long time to be done with the rituals, before finally coming to a stop for the real thing to happen.
Now, he commanded. “Hold hands.”
I took the hands of the woman I love in mine, ready to exchange the supposed vows when she jerked her hands from mine.
“What is the matter?” I asked, gazing at my hands to be certain there was nothing wrong with it. “Evel-”
The look on her face.
The look she gave me.
There was something wrong with her, I confirmed. I walked to her side to touch her, but she pushed me away while I stepped close.
“An evil spirit!” The priest screamed.
