Cade did not know how much time had gone until Sue came to tell him about it. “Oh shoot” he said pushing himself from his seat and stretching out.
“Are you going home now Mr Vale?” Sue asked as he stood behind his table stretching out his hands and legs.
“Of course, I have to,” he said with a wink. “After all I am a married woman.
Cade had spent the entire afternoon at the police station begging them to take a look at the text messages and what they thought of it. Even though almost all officers made it less of a big deal, to him it was a big deal because the messages kept professing love for him but not in a romantic way.
“Tomorrow, get the IG of the police or whoever on the phone, I have to get this as a real case and solved. Even if the messages are not meant for me like they claimed the last time, it should still be looked into, it feels dangerous for anyone to receive such messages from a stranger” Cade said.
“I will do just that” Sue responded knowing that now that he was fixated on finding the culprit there was no convincing him otherwise and that she just had to follow through. She hoped a culprit was found and that they could put an end to the madness that had been going on for years.
FLASHBACK
It started when Cade came back from school to resume at the company, he changed his number and after working his way to the top for the first ten months he received a message the day he for promoted. Not to raise an alarm for something that was probably not that big of a deal he deleted the message thinking it was probably an error from the person.
He did not receive another one for at least a month until he got another message at this point he thought that it was one of the people around him and even suspected Abigail and Cael but after snooping around them he discovered that they were not all that smart to think of something like that by themselves.
The messages at this point became so constant it was almost a routine for him. He woke to tons of messages lining the screen of his phone, he got tired of deleting the messages so he decided to visit the police station with the hope that something could be found for him.
When he got there he was barely taken seriously and was only attended to because of his status. He was made to know that if an ordinary person was to experience this they would have to send them away without any investigation because the only time they were allowed to track numbers was when it was related to a crime.
When he could not take it anymore because he could not sleep at night due to the constant fear of being watched by a random person he did not know. He had to change his phone line and the messages stopped. He began to feel more at ease. He had later told Sue about everything and she had ruled it out as an error as well.
He had even stopped staying at home so often and developed into a workaholic because working so hard helped take his mind off the reality of things. It was then he began to sleep at work instead of at home because he was feeling watched and he did not know why. Maybe he was crazy and while all these happened he made sure to keep it a secret from his entire family, them knowing was not going to do him any good. Maybe it would even be worse as they could capitalize on that to do evil to him. He could not take those risky chances.
BACK TO REALITY
Now Sue was sure that the third time being the charm they could not call it an error but instead, they had to work on it even though the police were ruling it a coincidence. The person who was sending those messages was someone close to him and knew about his change of contact. His mind was reeling trying to pinpoint it on someone but no one came to mind at all.
“I better get home” he said taking his phone and sliding it into his pocket.
“I will say the same as well,” Sue said escorting him to the elevator.
Of course, they were the only ones at the office. “You do not need to see me out and then come back to get your things, get you things and I will ask the available driver to drop you off” Cade suggested.
“Thank you but I rather go home on my own” Sue said turning down his offer.
“Why? We can take a detour and drop you right at your apartment door” Cade was shocked she was refusing a free ride.
“Even if I work overtime I do not wish to spend my time off work with you,” Sue said. She was brutal but honest and that was one of the things that made him keep her after all this time.
“Okay, then I guess,” Cade said entering the elevator door that opened wide. “Enjoy your time off from work” he added as the door shut closed.
By the time he got home, it was evident by the way her bags were scattered on the couch that she had made it home. He did not want to wake her up so he tiptoed to the kitchen to get a glass of water and then to his room. He had made it up the stairs and that was when he heard the choice.
“Are you just coming now?” Ophelia asked as soon as he held onto the handle of the door in front of her.
“Oh my goodness” Cade said leaning into the door as if his legs turned to jelly. “You scared the shit out of me. I did not see you there” he added as he held the handle firmly and his back rested on it.
“Where are you coming from?”
