“What do you want to talk about?” she asked him.
“I do not know why you are angry and what is making you say these things but if you tell me what is wrong I am sure we can find a solution to the issue” Cade said taking a step to hold her shoulders.
“What makes you think I am angry?” she asked raising her eyebrow up.
“The way you are acting right now” he said and she sighed.
“We have only spent a few days in this marriage and it seems like you are already tired of doing it, that is why I suggested having a divorce”
“If it is because of going out, we can definitely go out to see the city,” he said.
“You are still not getting it” Cade felt that the argument was getting stupid but he could not say that out loud. The look on her face told him that she was being serious. He kept replaying the day in his head but cold not find a reason why she would be angry at him. He thought they had resolved all the differences before now.
“Okay then explain it so I can get it” he said calmly.
Ophelia could not believe that he handled the chaos she was about to rain down on him so well. She was sure other men like him would have lashed out and probably signed the divorce papers. She knew how important the marriage was for him. She also needed it but not as much as he did.
“Okay so our goal is to show people that we are the couple of the year right?” she asked and he nodded. “You know the couple that everyone wants to be like” she added and he nodded. They had begun the work right from the ‘fake dating’ stage but it was getting to him in a kind of way.
“And I can assure you that a lot of people would be interested in our honeymoon and what we do. If we get it right this might even boost business for both of us”
“Boost business?” Ophelia watched his eyes light up. Was he in love with the idea of running a business or was he trying to be a perfect grandson? She wondered and knew that maybe one day when the time was right she would be able to understand his obsession with owning the company but for now, she was going to focus on what was before her instead.
“Yes of course, if either of us plans to build a resort here in the future we can market it using our near-perfect marriage” she explained. He knew what she was saying was true so he nodded. He wanted to hear more, if this was the price he had to pay to impress his grandfather then he saw it as a little sacrifice.
“And there are many more opportunities but we would not know unless we get out there” she added pointing to the door.
‘I can take this as a business survey trip and forget that this is a sham of a marriage’ he thought to himself. ‘Why am I even bothered about spending time as friends with her, we have agreed to be friends and friends we shall be. I can not develop feelings for her if I spend time with her, there is no such thing as love so why am I bothered’ he said to himself and smiled at her.
“You truly are a genius” he said and she nodded before mouthing ‘I KNOW’ to him.
“Let us begin seeing everywhere tomorrow, instead tonight you can upload us having a romantic intimate dinner” he suggested.
“Oh, that sounds nice. I like that” she said.
“Okay then” Cade said letting go of her shoulders and taking a step back.
“I will go and ask the front desk if they offer services like that, if I can get a romantic-themed dinner for us both I think that will do the trick”
“You are asking the front desk?” he asked confused. He thought they would just take to the streets and find any random place and have it there. She can then take pictures for her socials and they are sure to go viral. The tabloids had probably been waiting for her post for a long time now.
“Of course, if they do not recommend the service then we can ask them to recommend a good and popular place”
“I do not think you should be doing that, I should do that instead” Cade said. He did not want the hotel staff to think he was a jerk who could not prepare a romantic dinner for his wife and had her do it instead.
“Let us switch up the roles instead. Who says a woman could not prepare the dinner?” she asked him. He smiled and nodded knowing that with the little he knew about her going into the discussion with her would mean arguing endlessly and then having to agree with her at the end of the day.
“Just get ready and I will be back in a jiffy” she said walking to the door.
“Okay then,” Cade said as he followed behind her like a lost puppy.
Ophelia opened the door and stepped out before turning to him “I think you might have a personality disorder” she said and walked away as though she had not just diagnosed him on the spot.
Cade watched her walk away with a smile on his face, her comment was supposed to make him worried but he found it cute that she thought this was what personality disorder looked like. He went back into the room to freshen up and have a change of clothes. He picked up his phone as he stood in the middle of the living room with a towel around his waist when the door clicked open and pushed ajar.
Ophelia stood by the open door and whistled at him. “I did not know this but you seem to have such a good boy”
“What are you doing?”
