“What makes you think you can use that tone with me?”
“Because you keep acting like a child who needs to be told what to do” Ophelia said breathing from her mouth in annoyance.
“I do not want to go out, is that too big of a deal? If you want to go why don’t you go alone instead of dragging me into it?” he asked closing his eyes again. “You are the one acting out like a child” he added under his breath.
“What acting out?” she asked walking up to him and standing in front of him. Cade’s eye opened a bit and she tilted her head to the side.
“Yes acting like a child, we are in a city so why do we need to go out?” he asked.
“Because we are in a different city,” she said through gritted teeth staring him down.
“Oh please, there is nothing to see here” he said closing his eyes again.
“Oh my gosh, and they say you are a genius” she said making a sound with his tongue as she walked away.
“What does that mean?” he asked.
“I DON’T KNOW” she screamed as she entered her room and slammed the door.
“Oh geez” he muttered as the door slammed shut. “Why is she so grumpy?” he asked himself closing his eyes as he began to drift in and out of sleep.
The silence in the room continued for a while before Ophelia walked in loudly and stood in front of him again. “What is it?” he asked thinking that that part of the discussion was now over. He did not know why but the entire situation made him angry. Why did she need to act like that? He could not place what she had done but he knew that she had done something to get him edgy.
“Let us get divorced” she said causing his eyes to shoot open in shock.
“What did you just say?” he asked unable to process the words she had just uttered.
“Let us get divorced,” she said again, this time her voice was stronger and bolder.
“What nonsense are you saying?” he asked dismissing it, he could not believe it and did not want to either, there was no way she would say that here and now. “We have been barely married for three days and you are already talking about a divorce” he said taking his back off the chair and leaning in.
“That is why we have to do it now or else..” she trailed off.
“We can not divorce now, we have a legally binding contract that says we are at liberty to do that after ten years” he said. He was happy that he remembered that clause in the contract. “And you were the one who included it”
“And I regret that decision. I was foolish to think that this could work” she said her hand going from him to her in a quick motion. “If we can barely last three days together as a married couple what makes us think we would be able to last ten years?” she asked making a pity sigh with her mouth.
“It is best to end it here and now and go our separate ways” she added.
“So what happens to me?” Cade asked shocked.
Ophelia was glad that there was no condition attached to the ten-year clause which meant that she would be able to walk out of the situation without having to pay anything. “Why should I care about that?” she asked with a hiss behind her statement. “I am sure you would find a way to resolve it with your grandfather and then inherit the company soon”
“Are you suggesting I get remaried a few days after having my first wedding?” he asked now standing up. He did not want to get into a heated argument with her but he had to understand what she was tending to.
“Whatever floats your boat” she said waving her finger in the air with a smile on her face. “I just know I can not do this with you anymore”
“Is this because I refused to go out with you if that is the case I can actually go with you now. Just give me a moment to change” he said and she shook her head,
“Of course, you think that is what this is about” She rolled her eyes at him. She wondered why he was so slow-witted.
“Rhen what could this be about?” he asked. “We were doing fine until we came on this trip”
“We were doing fine?” she asked staring at him as she searched his face. She wanted to know if he felt that the relationship between them was okay. “We have argued every single day since we got married. How do you expect that we last ten years? We can acknowledge to our families that we made a mistake in getting married and getting a silent divorce. No one needs to know” she suggests. That is the best she could do for him for now.
After two years or a year we make the divorce public and say we spilted for differences” she added.
Cade stood there with his mouth ajar, of all the things that had happened today this was not one of the things he thought could happen. “Ophelia Please” he breathed out. “Let us not do this,” he said.
“We have to do this so let us get it over with as soon as possible” she said turning before stopping and adding her back to him. “I will get in contact with my lawyers and you should do the same as well. I would not ask for alimony or anything I will just get going with things. During the time when we are waiting to make the divorce public I will live abroad so we don’t have to run into each other”
Cade jogged and stood in her path blocking her from making an extra move forward. “Let us talk about it ”
“Please”
