By the time they got home Ophelia was passed out on his back. He took her in and dropped her on the bed. It was as if as her back touched the bed her eyes flew open and were now staring at him. She did not take her time to process what she saw because she saw him staring down at her was not what she expected to see.
“What are you doing here?” she shrieked as she stood up and moved to the other edge of the bed covering her chest area with both hands.
“What are you doing?” Cade asked tilting his head trying to understand her actions.
“What are you doing here?” he asked again almost screaming this time.
He stood up straight from the bent position he had been in and began to laugh doubling over and holding his knees. A frown grew on her face as she wondered what was so funny now. He was in her room and when she had caught him he was using laughter as a cover-up to get out of the situation.
Her eyes felt heavy and her throat dry like she needed water. Her head pounded and her ears rang, those issues were secondary issues she needed to know why her husband was standing over her like that and staring at her. She found it weird and was going to get answers no matter what.
“Why are you laughing? What is funny? Why don’t you share the joke with me so I can laugh as well?” she asked almost in a scream. Her voice was louder than normal. She wanted him to know she was serious and not to take her for granted. The result of her scream was more ringing in her ears as she felt her eyes get dry and her head ache more.
“Because of you” he said standing still and crossing his hands over his chest.
“You are scaring me, I asked what you were doing in my room standing over me and you are laughing” she said picking her words. ‘Did I marry a phsoc? Was this because I disagreed with the sex situation’ she asked herself as she jumped to her feet ready to bolt out the door in case anything happened.
“Do you remember anything?” he asked and she gulped. Did something happen between them? She hated that every time he was drunk she made wrong choices. She closed her eyes and tried to remember. The last thing she remembered was getting a drink with Sarah and Nancy, she wondered if somewhere along the line she had kissed him or implied that they slept with each other.
“I was having a drink with Nancy and Sarah” she said biting her lips.
“Exactly” Cade said shrugging and she wondered what he meant. That was the last thing she remembered but now he was standing in her room staring down at her how was she supposed to take that?
“That does not answer my question of what you are doing here,” she said. He was not going to manipulate her even though she could not remember anything.
“Ophelia, I have no idea what you are driving at but you called me to come pick you up like we discussed when I dropped you off with your friends and by the time I got there the three of you were drunk. I carried you home and as I dropped you to the bed you woke up and began to ask me absurd questions”
It was then that the situation began to make sense to her and she realized that she was mistaken about it. “I am sorry” she muttered realizing her error.
“Well, you should avoid jumping to conclusions” he replied and stood still taking off his hands from his chest. “You have a headache right?” he asked and she nodded.
“A bad one” she said touching her temple as she felt her heartbeat there. “I must have drank a little too much” she replied and he gave her a judy look.
“A little too much? I am sure you drank enough for an entire week” he said and she gasped. “You must have a high alcohol tolerance seeing that you are sober in just a few hours” he said.
Ophelia wondered how long it had taken them to get home seeing that the distance from the restaurant was only about forty-five minutes from the house. “Did it take us a while to get home?” she asked. She knew herself and that her drunk state only lasted for about one and a half hours at least, so they had to have spent at least two hours outside for that to work.
“Well for starters you kept jumping off my back because you wanted to play instead of going home and I spent three hours trying to get you home. Check the clock” he said pointing to the clock by the bedside. “Do you want to check the timestamp from when you sent me a message to now?” he asked.
It was obvious that she was doubting him and for him, that was not a good look at all. “All that is not needed” she replied feeling bad about all the accusations he was throwing his way so early in the morning. He must have been through a lot trying to bring her home and yet she was being an ass.
“I apologize”
“If I hear that one more time I might get angry,” he said pressing his lip into a thin fine line, it is okay” he added and she nodded. “I would get you some honey water for your hangover, take it and sleep and you should be okay by morning,” he said turning to leave the room.
He came back a few moments later with a water flask in hand and some drugs. He dropped them to the table before adding. “Do not use the drugs unless necessary, and also rest up” he said before leaving.
Ophelia was too ashamed to say anything, she was being paranoid and had successfully accused him wrongly. He stopped by the door and turned to her. “I hope you have not forgotten we have a flight by evening,” he said and walked away.
“What have I done?”
