Atia War Zone Headquarters was heavily guarded, with well-trained and disciplined soldiers.
The warriors here were the elite of Atia, steadfastly defending the Atia frontlines and protecting the vast domains of Striudan every day.
Quentin and Eileen got up one after another, and Caleb had already prepared a delicious breakfast for them.
“Caleb, your cooking skills have improved since we last met!” Quentin praised.
“Really, Quentin?”
“If you like it, you can stay here for a decade or so, and I’ll cook for you every day!” Caleb said excitedly, his eyes full of anticipation.
“No need, one meal is enough, just one meal.”
Quentin almost choked and quickly took a big gulp of water.
After eating, Quentin and Eileen followed Caleb to the war zone supply depot.
Along the way, various soldiers solemnly saluted the three of them, as these three were once the gods who protected the vast domains of Striudan.
Upon reaching the supply depot, they found it stocked with an abundance of supplies.
“Quentin, Lady Eileen, take whatever supplies you need.”
“Make sure to take plenty of food and water,” Caleb advised. Quentin and Eileen nodded and began gathering the necessary supplies.
They each took a variety of military rations, water bottles, knives, pistols, and ammunition.
Fully armed, they looked like special forces soldiers ready for battle at any moment.
“Let’s set off now,” Quentin said.
“Quentin, are these supplies enough for you?”
“Why not take some more water and food? It might take a while to get into Miao Territory.”
“It’s better to have extra in case of emergencies,” Caleb said worriedly.
“This will be enough. I also took a map of Miao Territory. Following the route, we should reach Miao Village in a few hours,” Quentin replied.
Caleb nodded, and the three of them drove a military vehicle towards Miao Territory.
The journey was silent, and they finally arrived at the region of Miao Territory.
Here, the mountains stretched endlessly, with towering peaks and long rivers that seemed to have no end.
“Quentin, this is the entrance to Miao Territory.”
“Once inside, stay vigilant and be careful.”
“Take care of yourselves and come back safely,” Caleb said as they packed their bags and got out of the vehicle.
Quentin hugged Caleb goodbye and then entered the mountains of Miao Territory with Eileen.
Caleb drove back to camp, feeling extremely worried.
However, Quentin and Eileen possessed Striudan’s top combat skills, so they generally wouldn’t encounter major problems.
Quentin thought about calling Charlotte to report in but decided against it since Time Group’s affairs were so busy now. He didn’t want her to worry too much.
Anyway, he was confident he could find the White Dragon Beard within five days and return to the southeast.
As Quentin and Eileen entered the mountains, they were enveloped in thick fog. The mountain paths were rugged and treacherous.
It was eerily silent. The trees were tall and dense, blocking out sunlight, leaving everything in darkness.
There was no signal here. Both took out flashlights to illuminate their maps and followed the route, marking each tree with their knives as they went.
They walked for an unknown amount of time through howling winds and bone-chilling cold that felt like the wails of ghosts in the underworld.
“A few hundred more meters, and we’ll be over this mountain,” Quentin said.
“Sir, we’ve been walking for over half an hour now,” Eileen said after checking her watch.
“Let’s pick up the pace,” Quentin said as they continued forward.
“Rustle!”
“Sir, there’s movement nearby,” Eileen said cautiously.
Quentin remained silent, his eyes cold as ice. He gripped his knife and assumed a defensive stance.
They stood back-to-back, alert to their surroundings.
The noise grew louder as if some creature was approaching them.
They shone their flashlights towards the source of the sound but couldn’t catch sight of it.
Suddenly, a shadow the size of a rooster darted out. Quentin’s quick reflexes allowed him to strike it down instantly.
“A rabbit?” Eileen exclaimed as she saw a blood-stained rabbit under the flashlight’s beam.
“But there’s more than one presence here. The killing intent is strong.”
Quentin remained vigilant, scanning their surroundings.
Low growls echoed around them, sending chills down their spines.
In the darkness, countless pairs of ferocious red eyes appeared, glaring at Quentin and Eileen with savage intent as if ready to tear them apart.
“It’s just a pack of wolves…” Quentin said calmly.
A tall and robust shadow emerged from the bushes. They shone their flashlights on it.
Before them stood a black-furred wolf with a deep scar over its right eye, seemingly from a previous encounter with a blade.
Its eyes were filled with fierce hostility as it bared its teeth in an aggressive stance, ready to pounce at any moment.
The black wolf howled furiously at the sky, summoning more wolves from all directions to surround them.
