Angel POV.
I looked at my two roommates, the other girl team had gone back into their room, while the third group decided to sit in the living room and watch some TV and talk, Katie pointed to our room and went there first, I followed her and finally, Nala did the same.
“So what’s up girls, where are you from? Tell me details, we’re gonna be spending a lot of time together now,” Nala say.
“I’m from around here, I used to live with my mom and my stepdad, he’s a jerk, he decided to join the rebels. When William said they all died, I could just dance with happiness,” Katie says with a shrug, she looks very young, younger than us.
“How old are you Katie?” I ask her curiously.
“I’m seventeen,” she answers us, she’s just a child.
“Did your friends survive? Or did they join your stepdad?” Nala asked her, and I looked curiously, how many young people have survived?
“Half of my school survived, the other half, well I bet they overdosed celebrating the fact that vampires are real, and some of them died due to blood loss, don’t ask me,” she says with a shrug, poor girl.
I went toward her, I sat next to her giving her a side hug, she hugged back, she looked happy to have someone to hold her, or even be near her, I felt sorry for her, I also had a shitty life beginning, I knew how that feels.
“Are there many of your schoolmates blue like us?” I asked her, was the blue code for the younger people or something?
“No, I think I only saw four, maybe five, but no more than ten, I’m sure of that,” she says nodding her head sure of her number, so this code isn’t anything about age.
“Okay, I’m next,” Nala says happily, ready to tell us more about herself, and we were ready to listen to get to know each other some more.
“Go ahead,” I say she looked super excited to talk but was waiting for permission.
“My name is Nala, I’m twenty-one, and I used to live with my mom, dad and siblings, everyone has decided to just give up when William came on the TV. I swear my dad had a crush on William and he loved watching him, and so we just came in when they called us, and I’m the only blue in my family,” she says explaining her life, leaving just me to talk and tell them more about me.
“So I’m the one left,” I say with a sigh, I knew I wasn’t the most interesting girl, and I’m the oldest in the room.
“I’m Angel, I’m twenty-three, I don’t really have a family, I lived alone for a long time now, I lived in an apartment alone, and I used to have a work, and when William came into the TV it was like wow, and also I was kidnapped once,” I say saying something that’s intersting about me.
“Kidnapped by whom?” Nala asks me with a raised brow.
“Uhhh… some human rebels, but it’s all over, it wasn’t anything major,” I say blushing, not wanting to talk about William and Dyaln and how it all happened.
“What! Tell us! Tell us!” Nala demands.
“It’s nothing for real,” I say.
“Please tell us,” Katie says and who could say no to that cute face, she’s so innocent, I couldn’t help it.
“Fine, well uhhh, you see, I decided to stop listening to William after he killed that guy on TV,” I say and they both shared a knowing look with me, all three of us knew that it wasn’t a nice thing to do on TV, it got all of us to feel not that good.
“That was one dark night,” Katie says and Nala nods.
“You get me, so I didn’t watch that night, and when I didn’t go when William called everyone, I decided to go around the street trying to find supplies,” I explain what really happened, I just wanted to find supplies, I’m not sure what happened next but it happened.
“Did the rebels get you on the street?” Katie asks knowing the answer already.
“Yup, they got me on the street, but it wasn’t the rebels, the vampires did so,” I say with a chuckle.
“So you were kidnapped by the vampires? Aren’t we all?” Nala says with a chuckle, making all of us chuckle.
“Well vampires first, but it didn’t end there, the vampires were really good, but then the humans got in the middle, they tried to kidnap me and things went badly then, the rebels were jerks, they deserved what they got,” I say with a couple tear going down my face, I had to wipe them away, I tried my best to wipe those away, I didn’t want to cry, not again.
“Hey, it’s okay, you’re with us now, did you get saved by some hot guy?” Katie asks me making me giggle.
“Oh, only if you know what kind of guy saved me,” I say with another giggle, trying my best to hide the fact that I’ve been crying before.
“What, what, spill,” Nala says, looking at me with big wide eyes trying to get me to tell her the truth.
“Well, I’ll give you a hint, he’s a guy that everyone has a crush on,” I say with a giggle, even Nala’s dad had a crush on him.
“You can’t be real, is it William?” Nala asks me with a raised brow.
“Excactly, it’s William, he saved me,” I say with red cheeks, I don’t know why I’m feeling super shy now, but I was, I was saved by William, lucky me.
“Oh my god! I know some people who’d die to be you,” Nala says.
“Is one of those people you?” I ask her with a raised brow.
“And me,” Katie says with a giggle.
“Well lucky me then,” I say with another blush, we kept on talking we shared some secrets between all of us, I loved these girls right away, Katie was the young girl who looked and sounded as innocent as they get, while Nala was the one who lived the real life, she got sass and brattiness, she was my kind of girl, and together, I know we’d manage to drag Katie into a lot of troubles as the time comes.
“Girls, dinner,” it was Evelyn’s voice, we have spent most of the afternoon talking, and it’s time to eat now, good, I’m hungry.
“Coming,” all three of us yelled at the same time, we walked out to the giant dining table in the kitchen, we all took a seat and were served dished-out plates by Evelyn when she was done, she left the apartment, telling us to place our dishes in the sink once we’re done. The plates had macaroni and cheese, vegetables, and some kind of chicken strips, along with it we all got juice boxes, this was some very comforting food, it was something that all of us would eat, and I didn’t mind eating the whole plate cleaning it all.
But I have to say that I noticed a couple of weird things, the plates came of different colours, the plates were all divided, and the forks that we got were plastic sporks, I wasn’t sure of this was prison or children’s plates, it felt like prison, but everything was coloured as if it belonged to children, maybe it’s just all too colourful to make us want to eat and keep everyone happy, I was happily eating with them.
I noticed that the other girls were more chatty, they were talking with each other, the other six girls looked to be around my age, and they were a lot more comfortable, I noticed that Katie was more interested in her juice than the food when she finally set it down to take another bite of food, the box fell from her hand, dropping on the ground, she looked at the lost juice, and then I saw her eyes, they filled with tears she looked heartbroken.
“Hey, it’s okay Katie, just leave it,” Nala says, looking at the girl who looked so hurt and broken.
“But my juice,” Katie says, the tears starting to fall, she didn’t eat any of her food, hardly a couple bites, her eyes locked on the juice.
“Hey, you can have mine,” I say handing her mine, I haven’t drunk any of it yet, she looked at me like I was Superman, saving her.
“It’s okay Katie just take it,” I say handing her the box again, she took it gratefully.
“Thank you,” Katie says taking the juice and starting to drink it right away.
“You’re welcome,” I say, something felt off with Katie, I know she’s much younger than me, but I don’t think seventeen years old should be acting like that when they lose a juice box, I know I was never normal, but this felt weird.
