Angel POV.
We finished our food, and everyone but Katie, just had her juice leaving the food behind, when we got up, we placed her plate in the sink as Evelyn asked us to, and then we went back to our room, getting ready to spend the evening in here before getting sleep, Katie was still acting different, different from before really.
We got pyjamas out of the drawers, they had blue in them, I noticed that everything had some blue in it and I loved blue, it’s a good colour.
The room had some books and stories placed everywhere for us to find, I decided to pick one and go sit down in my bed, Nala decided to play with her phone, while Katie sat in bed, and she soon went into deep sleep, sucking on her thumb, around ten pm, the light went off and came back on, the internet stopped or that’s what Nala said, and at ten on the dot, the light went off along with the internet, it was time to sleep.
“I guess it’s their way of telling us to sleep,” Nala says and I nod, she’s right, we gotta sleep, now, I got under the blanket, and covered my head, it only took me a couple minutes before I was deep asleep.
My sleep wasn’t interrupted by anything, instead, I slept like the dead, or maybe a wall, I don’t wanna talk about the dead, I slept like a wall, or maybe a log, but the important part was that I fell asleep, I only woke up the next morning to alarm voice, I don’t remember setting any kind of alarm, fucking Evelyn, this was the best sleep I got in a very long time.
I got up and groaned and whined, I didn’t want to wake up or get out of bed, so I stayed for as long as possible, I opened one eye and saw that Nala was using the bathroom which was a great opportunity for me to get some more sleep, then Katie had to use the bathroom and I slept some more until both girls were done, only then I left the bed and went to the bathroom, I used the new toothbrush and the toothpaste that tasted more of strawberry than minty fresh, but it was good.
“You ready to take over the world?” Nala says, and I nod grumpily.
“There would be juice boxes for you Katie,” Nala adds making Katie just shrug, she was still acting weird today, and I’m not sure if she’s okay or not.
“Good morning girls, how’s everyone this morning?” Evelyn says coming in, she looked at all of us but most of her attention fell on Katie.
“Morning,” we all answered her, she served the breakfast this time, it was served like yesterday on colourful plates and pretty forks, along with milk boxes today.
“After your breakfast, you’re all going to be going to work, we’ll have a one-on-one interview and you’ll get your job assignment, and it’s okay to say that you don’t want to work,” Evelyn assures us, once again Katie was only interested in her milk box instead of the actual food.
“Come on Kaitlin, we’re gonna start with you,” Evelyn sasy taking Katie’s hand and taking her out of the kitchen, they went somewhere else, I wasn’t sure but I was worried about Katie, what if something bad happens to her?
“Her name is Kaitlin?” a girl from the other room asks.
“No, it’s Katie,” Nala answers.
“I think Katie is short for Kaitlin, we’ll have to ask her when she’s back,” I add, I wasn’t really sure but it could be that.
We finished eating our breakfast while we got called one by one to go spend time with Evelyn to have our interview, I knew that I wanted to work, I don’t think I’ll be okay spending the whole day sitting at home, it’ll be much better if I get to go out and do some kind of work, any kind of work really.
“Angel, you’re next,” I was called next by one of the girls who just left, I got up and went outside, but where was I supposed to go?
I walked in the floor looking for Evelyn, no one told me where she would be, only to go and that it’s my turn, everyone knew except for me, I kept on walking until I found a door open, this was one of the appartment that not meant for us, it’s Evelyn’s place, I walked in and saw that it had the same layout as our places, but I bet it didn’t have three beds in each room. She was sitting on the kitchen table, sipping her coffee, with papers set right in front of her.
“Take a seat Angel,” she says and I obey sitting in front of her waiting for her to tell me what to do next.
“So, Angel, what do you think of your new living situation?” she ask me with a big smile on her face.
“It’s good, I like it,” I say truthfully, I liked it here, it’s better than my old apartment, everything is clean and set, and I don’t have to worry about everything anymore, I could just be me.
“And the girls you’re sharing a room with? I don’t want any of you starting fights, so if something is off, tell me right away,” she says.
“They are really nice, I like them both,” I say excitedly, I never had friends before, so maybe they could be mine.
“That’s very good Angel, we’re happy that you’re happy, we care very much about you, and some very important people said to take good care of you,” she says with a wink does she mean Dylan and William? I think she did.
“Thank you,” I say blushing again, I don’t know what’s up with this place, but they make me feel shy all of a sudden.
“Now, about the job, do you want to work or do you prefer to stay home? I’ll take good care of you if you stay,” she says with a smile on her face, it was a warm voice.
“I want to work,” I say right away, I didn’t want to skip work, I didn’t want to stay home, that life wasn’t for me.
“That’s okay, I see in your file that you used to work as a personal assistant, I can get you another job similar to that, except if you want a change, do you have any other talents? Something else you want to work,” she says, I could pick any work I want to do, but I prefer to do the job that I’m used to, and I’m good at that one, no need for a change.
“I think I want the same job, I was good at it,” I say nodding my head, I know I can do that one.
“That’s okay love, now being code blue has some extra rules concerning work, you have the same working hours as everyone else, but you’re more special,” she says with a smile on her face.
“What does that mean?” I ask, the smile could sell me almost anything but I need to know what it really means, what’s waiting for me out there.
“That means you can only work for another blue since they’ll know how to treat you, your job starts at 9, and it ends at four, you have the right to a nap during the day, you are expected to eat lunch at work every day, you can have a cup of coffee daily, but nothing more than that,” she explains.
“Okay, I can do those,” I say, those weren’t the worst rules out there, I went through worse, I had worse jobs, and I had to run a million times before.
“Good, good, now let’s speak some more about your future,” she says with the same big smile.
“Now, as William has explained, the goal of our lives is to find a vampire mate, it doesn’t have to be romantic and that’s why we got you divided into a category, someone blue, someone nice, that you’ll have a good life together,” she says with her still smile.
“So I’m sent to work to fall in love with my boss?” I ask her.
“No, no Angel, you take your time, it doesn’t have to be your boss, anyone, who’s blue, you could meet them on the bus, in the building at work, might be today, might be in years, just keep it in your mind, you’re gonna end up with someone,” she says, so our end goal is to belong to vampires.
“When would the code be explained?” I ask her.
“Once you find your vampire, well the one you pick, then they’ll explain it to you, in detail,” she says with a wink.
“And about my work?” I ask her.
“Get ready, the bus will be taking you there soon,” she answered me.
“Okay, thank you, Evelyn,” I say ready to leave.
“Now send Nala, on your way out,” Evelyn called after me, I went back to our place, sending Nala after me, the only one who didn’t come back was Katie, was she okay? Maybe she didn’t want to work.
