Angel POV.
“Now blues, please follow me,” Evelyn calls out trying to get our attention, we looked and felt like children following her, I saw that I wasn’t the only one with big puffy eyes, all of us had cried last night and I could tell none of us were too happy about this.
“Where are we going?” a brave soul asks, I think Evelyn is nice, but not nice enough for me to ask her about anything.
“We’re going to get all of your things organized then we’ll move to our homes,” she explains, we’re the smaller group and we’re the first ones to leave this place, I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to neither Dylan nor William, and they weren’t looking at me, they were busy with their friends, with the rest as I left this place.
Evelyn took us to an office of some kind, she handed over blue backpacks, she said every one of us got one, and it had essentials, but aren’t we going home where there was everything? I wasn’t sure, I took the bag and noticed it had my name on it, in bold letters it said, ANGEL.
“Is this a nickname or something?” someone asks from beside me, I look up and see it’s another girl, with blue eyes and black hair.
“It’s my name, what’s yours?” I asked her back, I could look at her bag, but I hoped she’d have a stupid name or something.
“My name is Nala, my parents didn’t do a much better job naming me,” she says and I laugh if only she knew what I’m named after.
We left the building together, we got on buses, it took two buses to fit everyone, and Evelyn decided to call our names and say who goes in what bus, I got in the same one as Nala, I was set in the back along with a third girl called Katie. I didn’t pay attention to the rest, I couldn’t hear the names after that, they kept going, Evelyn got on the bus with us, and another lady vampire got on the second bus.
“Listen up, most you code blue are girls, and I do love my girls,” she says with a big smile on her face, I think most of the humans that are left are girls, not all of them, but a lot of them are female.
“Where are we going now, Evelyn?” Katie asks she’s the girl with brown hair and green eyes, she’s the bravest one between all three of us, although she’s the smallest in size.
“We’re going to your new homes,” Evelyn answers, we didn’t go to the bad side of the city where I used to live, instead we went to the better part of the city, it’s the more expensive part, the one that I worked in but couldn’t afford staying in them before.
They parked in front of a fancy building, a really fancy one, I’ve been here before, well I passed in front of the building, I looked up, thought it was fancy and then I kept on moving, I knew I couldn’t afford anything more than just looking at the building. Evelyn said that this one was ours, she got out of the building first and guided everyone in, I think we’re around fifty, maybe less, I haven’t counted, but anyway, we walked out, and she divided us into groups yet again, we couldn’t all fit in the elevator, but we’re in the middle floors, we’re on the ninth, out of twenty floors.
When everyone managed to get on the ninth floor, Evelyn got everyone’s attention again, she had a way to get everyone to look at her, to answer her, she didn’t even have to try.
“Every nine girls would be staying in one apartment, it’s a three-bedroom apartment, you girls are going to share rooms, I don’t wanna hear any kind of objection, it’s a big room, and it can fit you all,” she says.
Three per room, that’s a big number, even if the room fits, how am I going to live with nine girls, I lived alone for a long time now. My brain was working overtime, what about the kitchen, how would we eat? When would we eat? What if they eat all my snacks?
“Girls, are you listening, now shush, and listen please,” Evelyn says, she didn’t have to raise her voice to get everyone’s attention, we all turned to her, and we all paid attention to her.
“Now nine is a big number, I’m sure you’re all worried, what about the bathroom? What about my snacks, what if I want to watch TV!” she says copying a little girl’s voice, she sounded funny, but I liked it, that’s exactly what I was worried about, everyone nodded, and they all agreed with me.
“Now every room has its own bathroom, three girls and one bathroom, you need to learn to share especially in the morning and before bedtime, we take our times and let the other girls have their turn,” Evelyn says, three per bathroom isn’t that bad, it’s better than nine.
“Food would be provided, you’ll find your plates all set and ready, no need to worry about that or cooking,” she says, another good point, I don’t get to worry about making myself food anymore which was good.
“Now what else do we have to worry about? Snacks? You get to keep them in your room if you want things to be private, or you put them in the kitchen and it’s for everyone to share. And finally the TV, we’ll have to share, every day one of the three rooms can pick what movie you all get to watch,” she says, but she won’t be there to know if we’re gonna fight or not, but we’ll try not to.
“Bedtime is ten for everyone, everyone is supposed to be up by seven, earlier time of waking up and sleeping is both fine,” Evelyn orders, I never had bedtime before, that’s not nice, what are we having bedtime for?
“Why do we have a bedtime?” a girl whines, she wasn’t happy about it at all.
“Because you all have jobs, and you need to be up early and sleep early if you guys decide not to work, or feel better not working, you still need to keep busy during the day and that includes a healthy sleeping time,” Evelyn says explaining things.
“How do we pick our roommates?” someone asks.
“I’ll do the picking,” she assures us, she starts to give up names, showing the girls their homes, their new homes, and we end up filling the whole floor, it was ours.
“In here we have Nala, Katie, and Angel,” she says, we share a look, this felt like we won something, I’m not sure what but it felt like a win, I got roommates that I liked.
“You get to pick your beds girls,” she says and goes to finish telling the rest of the girls where they get to sleep.
The room was giant, it’s bigger than my old apartment, and having three beds in it didn’t feel stuffy or big, it felt okay, it felt like there was room for all of us, I picked my bed, the one near the window, Nala picked the one facing mine, while Katie went on the other side of the room.
“So this is new,” I say sitting on the bed, the only thing I had was the backpack that they gave me before we got here, I checked what was in the bag, it was a new toothbrush, soap, a new phone, and an ID and some other small toiletries for us.
“I got a new ID,” I say seeing that it only had my name and my age, my code, and not my last name, I guess we’re going without them from now on.
“Same,” the other girls says, Nala was the brave one, she opened the closet and the drawers checking what was in them, it’s clothes, new clothes for all three of us.
“What do you think our new jobs would be? Or would we just go back to our old ones?” I ask them out loud.
“No idea, but my old job was shitty, I’m ready for a new one,” Nala says happily.
“Girls, Evelyn is here, she wants to see all of us,” a girl says, she’s from the other room, we haven’t met them yet.
“Coming,” Katie says, leading the way out of the room, I followed them along with Nala, we all stood in the kitchen facing Evelyn.
“I’m the one in charge here, but there’s only one of me and until you girl mingle with the rest of the vampires, I’m the one you call when you need something, my number is on your phones, every one of yours. I live on the same floor as you girls, I’m in charge of everyone, so help me out so I’ll help you back, now get to know each other. Go to your rooms, be friends, and get some rest, tomorrow we’ll be talking about jobs and what we’d be doing in our lives, but for now, just relax and enjoy your day off, call me if you need me,” she says, before leaving the apartment probably going to go and give the same speech to the next girls.
