“What? No… Wait, you’re not well Wayne!” Dolly yelled after him and ran to hold him back. Jake got on his feet and so did the rest of the men. He hurried to Dolly and stopped her from going after their Alpha.
“Don’t worry. We’ll go with him. Just stay here with Olive, okay? If we don’t get here in time, just call us as soon as the surgery’s over. Okay?” he told her in a soothing voice. She looked at Wayne’s receding back as he took the turn down the hallway and went out of sight. She gulped nervously. She was too worried about her brother.
“But he… He’s injured, Jake,” she protested.
“The injuries have been attended to. And he heals rapidly, remember?”
“What about his emotional wounds? Would they heal rapidly? Wayne loves Olive so much. He could go on a rampage because of what happened to her. You know him!”
“Which is why we’re following him. Stay here, okay? Call Vanessa too,” Jake stated and began to hurry away with the men. They were all wearing leather jackets of black, brown and red, making them look like some elite agents as they hurried down the hallway to go watch out for their Alpha.
Dolly stood frustrated and scared as she watched them leave. Her heart was threatening to jump out of her chest if she didn’t calm down soon. She exhaled deeply and sat down. That moment, she heard footsteps running towards her.
“Dolly! Olive, where’s Olive? What’s going on?” Vanessa cried. She seemed out of breath.
“Shush. Keep your voice low,” Dolly reprimanded and used her head to gesture towards the door. Vanessa looked through the glass and saw a surgery was ongoing. She broke down on the floor, hugged her legs and began to cry.
“If you don’t stop crying, I’m going to cry too,” Dolly warned and Vanessa sniffed.
“Would she be okay? Would she be fine?” she asked as she wiped her tears with the back of her arm.
“Well, she would be. I believe she’ll be fine,” Dolly answered.
“She’s such a strong girl. Surviving all these years all on her own. She finally got her freedom to live in love with her mate. But what is this? This isn’t fair,” Vanessa cried into her palms.
Dolly tried to make meaning of her words but shrugged it off. It was true that Olive had lived rough but why did she feel like there was something else?

Wayne arrived at the crash site alone not knowing his men were driving fast to meet up with him. He met the Balendin Police Department and a few forensic scientists checking out the site. He stepped out of the car and the Police Captain immediately walked to him.
“Good evening, Alpha,” he greeted. Wayne acknowledged him with a nod.
“What is going on?” he asked though he knew they were just doing their detective jobs and all.
“We are trying to figure out the cause of the accident. We have already seen that the accident began at that point over there. That was where the car lost control and swerved to this side of the road,” the captain began to explain, pointing at the places he was talking about.
Wayne peered at the road, the place the car lost control. He began to walk there and the captain followed him. They reached the very spot where the tires had screeched and made marks on the tarred road. Wayne bent down and looked at the marks. It started suddenly from a point like something pushed it abruptly. He knew the dark force had done that.
“There are no signs of another vehicle being responsible for the crash. Because if a vehicle had hit you, then its marks would also be evident on the road. Also, your break lights would have been bursted or your bumber would have gotten damaged,” the captain explained.
“I don’t remember even seeing any cars on the road with us. It was… unusually empty,” Wayne mused.
“It seems the crash was deliberately caused, Alpha. There is nothing on this empty road that could cause this sort of damage under a very short time. Look at the car.”
Wayne got on his feet and stared at the car. It was so compressed and scattered. He looked around the road and it was truly empty and not capable of creating such havoc on the car. If only there were side structures that the car could bump into. The trees at that side weren’t even much and had a lot of space between them. The only thing the car bumped into was the school wall and by then, the damage was mostly done.
The van with Jake and the men arrived and they jumped out after sighting Wayne.
“What’s going on?” Shem was the first to ask. They had all sensed that something wasn’t right with the way both the captain and their Alpha was looking.
“The crash was a deliberately caused attack,” Wayne stated. The men looked shocked. This was the first time that Wayne got attacked in their pack. He had always been safe here. His pack members loved him so much. And, there weren’t much foreigners living at Balendin. The ones who were living there were under watch.
“Alpha, are you sure you didn’t see anything on the road?” the captain asked.
“Yes, did you see anything? Surely, someone must have actualized the plans if the crash was caused. They didn’t just create it from the sky,” Jake stated.
“The car was hit by a force. A very dark force. I felt it,” Wayne revealed and their faces fell.
“A dark… dark force?” Terry was the one who asked this time.
“Yes. It hit us from behind and the car swerved. I didn’t feel anything else apart from that. Everything happened so quickly,” he answered.
“This is new. You’ve never been attacked before. And this close to the castle?” Jake thought out loud.
“It could be that he was never attacked because he didn’t give them an opportunity,” a female voice stated. They looked sideways and saw a blonde lady in a green blazer jacket and black pants. She smiled as she reached them.
“Good evening, Alpha. My name’s Kelly Reynolds. Detective Reynolds,” she introduced herself. Wayne peered at her as she smiled brightly like this was a Christmas Eve party. She however cleared her throat and wore a sober look after realizing that everyone else was frowning around her.
“What were you saying, detective?” Captain Luiz asked.
“Alpha Knight had always been in the company of his men-” she pointed at Jake and the rest.
“Or his guards. He was always impregnable. But recently, I heard he had been leaving the castle without his guards. The same thing that happened today. So, whoever planned this attack must have realized that he now has a loophole that they could strike with. They must have planned this attack today because they knew you’d be alone again.”
Detective Reynolds made a bit of sense to everyone listening. But they were left with more curiousity.
“So you’re saying this ‘person’ has been monitoring our Alpha?” Shem asked and Kelly nodded.
“This person must be close then. Close enough to monitor you,” added Captain Luiz.
“The culprit must also be someone foreign. Since the pack members are bound by an oath never to hurt the pack’s leader,” Kelly stated. Wayne watched the two officers intently. He looked at Jake before looking back at them.
“Go on. I know you’re yet to say your final observation,” he spoke.
“I think, the strange woman you were with is responsible for this attack,” Detective Kelly Reynolds revealed proudly.
