Wayne’s Explanation

It was like her feet was rooted to the ground. She just couldn’t move away. Why did Wayne have to look so smoking hot?
She watched as he pulled the sleeves from each of his hands. The way his muscles rippled underneath his skin. She wanted to place her hands on him and feel them moving. Goodness!
“What is it?” Wayne asked as he noticed how she was staring at him. Olive was kicked out of her imagination. She shook her head to clear her mind then looked at him.
“Huh?”
“You were staring at me, Olive,” he drawled and she frowned. Was it a crime to stare? She wanted to roll her eyes. But instead she straightened the shirt in front of her and looked down at it.
“I’m to wear this, I suppose,” she said in a formal tone of voice. Wayne exhaled and placed his fingers over his forehead again. Calming himself.
“Yes,” he answered after a few seconds as he was bringing down his hand.
“Wear that,” he added. He moved backwards and looked at her from head to toe. She looked so creamy. Like vanilla and he wanted to lick the water from her skin. Her wet hair over her body made her look like a Greek goddess. He wanted to pack it sideways while he-
“And why are you staring at me that way?” her voice broke his reverie. She was frowning deeply at him.
“Uh… nothing,” he said.
“Go stare at Gia that way. Also, reestablish your harem. I’m sure you would have enough ladies at your beck and call,” she muttered under her breath. But he could hear.
“Olive,” he called soothingly and took two steps forward towards her.
“Don’t come closer!” she warned and drew her fangs. Wayne stared at her wee little fangs and burst into laughter. He laughed so hard that she wanted to start crying. His laughter was hurting her.
“Stop it, Wayne,” she pleaded when she could not take it anymore. He stopped immediately when he saw she was at the verge of tears.
“I’m sorry… just… I’m sorry,” he said while trying hard to control his laughter. She scoffed and tried walking away but he grabbed her arm and pulled her to himself, wrapping his arm over her lower abdomen possessively.
“Let go of me!”
“Wait, Olive. I’m sorry, okay?”
“Why did you laugh at me?” He surpressed another laugh and turned her to look at him.
“You were baring your fangs at me,” he stated and she frowned.
“How’s that a cause for laughter?” she asked. He smiled wickedly and ran his fingers through his hair slowly. He looked really hot doing that but Olive refused to acknowledge it. She was angry with him as far as she was concerned.
“What do you possibly think those fangs would have done to me? Scare me away from moving closer to you?” he asked with pure sarcasm. Olive pursed her lips.
“Your wee little fangs won’t scare me away, mate,” he quipped and she gave him a hard glare.
“Excuse me, I want to change,” she said, changing the topic.
“I’m not leaving the room. Change while I watch you,” Wayne ordered in a stern voice. Olive’s face fell.
“What? Who do you think I am? Your lover, Gia?”
Now, it was Wayne’s turn for his face to fall. He hated what she just said.
“Gia-” he took in a deep breath, turned around and shoved his wolf back inside then faced Olive again.
“Gia is not my lover,” he stated calmly.
“Yes, maybe she’s not your lover anymore. But you can’t deny that you and Gia had something. Gia ‘was’ your lover,” Olive retorted and Wayne took a deep breath again.
“Why are you doing that?” she asked him in an irritated tone of voice.
“Because my wolf wants to come out,” he simply replied and placed his fingers on his forehead again.
“Why would he want to come out?”
“He’s super angry. This is the first time I’m trying to control him this much,” he replied and turned around again. His eyes were flashing from red to brown and brown to red.
Olive sighed and walked into the bathroom to change. She knew deep down that something was amiss. The way Gia was acting, it was like Olive was a threat to her. Like she wanted her out of the way. Therefore, Olive decided to at least listen to Wayne’s part of the story. Maybe, he doesn’t want Gia anymore since he found his mate.
When she got out, she found him sipping wine while staring through the open window. It was supposed to be cold season, but Balendin Pack hadn’t had any strong winters. Back at Selcece Pack, it was freezing. Wait… could it be that Wayne controlled the climate of Balendin too? She wanted to ask but decided not to. She didn’t want to talk to him. Wayne however noticed her presence and looked back at her. The t-shirt was covering her knees.
“We didn’t get to finish our meal. Do you want the housekeepers to get you something else?” he asked. Olive could sense that he was tensed.
“I don’t have an appetite anymore,” she answered curtly and walked towards the bed. Before she could reach it, he was standing right in front of her.
“How did you-”
“Sshh,” he silenced her in a whisper. He was holding her back and their bodies were touching. Olive looked down, not wanting to look up at his face which she knew would be staring down at her.
“Mate,” he called sweetly and lifted her face up with his palm over her jaw. She pinned her lips as she stared at him.
“You know I wouldn’t hurt you, right?” She didn’t answer.
“You are the last person I would want to hurt. And I already promised you I wouldn’t leave you.”
“Where are you heading with this conversation, Wayne?” she asked with cold eyes.
“That I won’t do anything that would hurt you.”
“You already hurt me by doing whatever you did with Gia.”
“That’s the point. I did nothing with Gia. Absolutely nothing.” His voice was rising little by little.
“What do you mean?”
“Gia…” he trailed off. His eyes flashed wolf again and he moved back. He took several steps away from her and held his forehead again.
“Gia is up to something. We never spoke outside of meeting rooms before. I’ve known her for about eight years and we began working together five years ago. She only started coming around me when you arrived. I brought her to this villa last year because she was under attack from a section of her own soldiers and needed to hide for sometime,” he explained in a deathly voice. It was like he was controlling himself from doing something drastic.
“Why didn’t you let me… Why had you stopped me earlier?”
“Because you would have killed her in that mode. And that’s not good at all for you. There’s a law governing our land. That important people cannot be killed just anyhow. The land will retaliate, whether or not the person is guilty. A due process must be followed before a dignitary can be executed.
“Even I can’t just kill any of my pack officials. The land will retaliate against me. And you, my love. You’ve not even been inducted into the pack fully. Taking the life of a daughter of the soil on the soil is bad news. For both of us.”
Olive exhaled. That piece of news was intense. Thank God she didn’t go extra.
“So you’re saying officials can’t be taken out except when found guilty and sentenced duly?”
“Yes. That way, no one can decide to take out someone for their position or anything else. It’s a safety measure. That’s why I can even walk freely even if I was powerless. As long as I’m Alpha, I can’t be killed on my land.”
Olive nodded. The law made sense, but Gia escaped because of that law so she wasn’t so happy with it.
“And I suppose murdering Gia will be trouble even without that law. She’s your Chief Female Army Commander, right?” Wayne’s features darkened.
“Do you think I’ll give a damn about who she is? She crossed her boundaries. And that… That kiss-” his eyes turned red and Olive gasped.
“If you hadn’t stepped in, I could have killed her tonight,” his wolf spoke out in a total growl.
