“Dinner. Tomorrow night,” Alpha Knight repeated casually and looked back at the screen of his phone.
“Yes. I already told my father about it and he said he would be there. We also want to talk about a new project to you. A good development for the pack,” she said in that flirty voice of hers.
“I can’t,” he stated and her stomach fell.
“W-what? But why?” she stuttered.
“I already made plans.”
“Oh…how about in two days then?”
“This week is occupied, Lady Gia,” he said curtly and brought his phone to his ear to make a call.
She wanted to ask him to just fix the time for dinner into his tight schedule this week when he got on his feet and walked away from the bar while answering the call.
She was very disappointed and angry. How was she going to actualize her plans now? She just had to be the Luna, sooner or later. Gosh! Why didn’t she do something before his mate arrived? She had the golden opportunity while working for him for years. If she wanted, she would have married him back then. All she had to do was buy the favor of the council, and make them convince him to choose the most powerful woman in the pack as his Luna.
‘Gia, you’re so stupid,’ she insulted herself and bowed her head. When she looked up next, Dolly was standing right there. She gasped and almost fell back from the high chair.
“Did I startle the Chief Female Army Commander?” Dolly asked. Gia didn’t reply so she chuckled.
“I am really surprised you came here. You said you were bored?”
“Yes, I was,” Gia replied in her formal tone of voice.
“It’s nice to have you here. Would you want something else to drink? I can mix you up a cocktail or something…”
“I’m fine. I don’t want any other drink,” she cut in and looked at the Alpha who was opening a certain small cabinet and looking for something inside.
“Did you and the Alpha have a rift again?”
“No. We are fine.”
Dolly almost rolled her eyes at the way Gia was answering like a robot. It was obvious she didn’t want Dolly’s company. Dolly always respected Gia, not because she liked her, but because she was diligent in her field. She had poise, confidence and discipline. But she hated her pride, the way she looked at other people and how she always saw Wayne as reckless.
Her brother began to walk back to the bar and she noticed how Gia immediately released her frown and placed a sheepish smile on her face. She also tucked her hair behind her ear and sat up. Dolly’s eyes almost widened. What was going on with this lady? Was she trying to impress her brother? But why all of a sudden?
“Wayne, how’s Olive? Where is she?” Dolly asked.
“Our room,” he answered curtly. He was strategizing something in his mind. Whether to really go on that journey or not.
The sound of that ‘our room’ which he answered gave Dolly inexplicable joy. So, his room was now occupied by two. So cute! She dreamed of this for her brother. For him to finally have someone to ease him of the darkness enclosed in him.
“Is she okay? Why isn’t she with you?”
“Sleeping,” he answered and sat down once more. Gia bit her lower lip hard to stop her from frowning deeply. So, the girl’s name was Olive? And she was already in his bed. She almost scoffed.
“Oh…that’s good. She needs lots of rest. Tomorrow, I plan on taking her out. There are so many things I want to show her and get for her,” Dolly said excitedly.
“Who’s Olive? And why is she in the Alpha’s room?” Gia frowned and pretended as if she had no idea who Dolly was talking about.
“Oh! Haven’t you heard? The news is all over the castle!”
“Dolly, you know I don’t indulge in gossip of any kind. I don’t have that time,” she scoffed and flipped her hair again. Dolly smirked.
“Then me telling you about the person is surely going to be gossip, Lady Gia. So, my lips are…,” she zipped across her lips to indicate her lips were sealed. Gia laughed dryly and got on her feet.
“I have to get going. I’ve spent too much time here,” she announced.
“Oh come on. You just got here. Come play cards with us. I win, and I use your car for this week!” Shem yelled across the circle of people who were crouched down and watching his game against his sister.
“I don’t play unsophisticated games. Gambling? Oh please,” Gia rolled her eyes.
“I doubt she even knows how to play,” Vanessa mocked and arranged her cards. Gia had had enough of their taunting. She hated the company of these uncultured folks.
“Good night, Alpha,” she said with a slight bow and walked away towards the elevator.
“Lady Gia,” Wayne called. She graciously turned around.
“Yes, Alpha,” she answered.
“Never use my elevator again. Except if you’re in it with me,” he ordered sternly and her face turned pink with embarrassment. She heaved a sigh and walked towards the door instead. As she was about opening it, it flung open and hit her right in the face.
“Oooo,” was the sound that came from lots of mouths behind her. Terry was the one who opened the door.
“My apologies, Chief,” he said and shifted from her front with two white bags in his hands.
Gia held her nose and hurried through the door. She had been embarrassed right from the time she stepped her legs in that room until the end. She regretted going there.
She entered the hallway and found the general elevator. She was about to press the last button which was for the ground floor. She had wanted to just go home and fly away from the embarrassment. But she had a sly idea. With a smirk, she sent the elevator moving down to the third floor of the castle. She stepped out and kept walking past guards who didn’t stop her. They all looked surprised at her outfit, but who would ask her why she was dressed like that. She kept walking until she reached the large golden double-door that led to the prince’s quarters. Four elegant guards were standing there.
“Excuse me,” she told them.
“What brings you here, Chief?” one of them asked.
“I have been ordered by the Big Bad Alpha to watch over his mate personally,” she answered in her usual curt and authoritative manner. The guard nodded and they pressed in the keywords, making the door open. She walked in with her shoulders squared and walked hurriedly across the large receiving room. This was the second time she was entering his quarters, first being two years ago when he was awfully wounded from a fight with a mystical creature in the Neanderlands.
Gia still knew the exact door to his room. She walked to it and it opened on its own. The last door did same, and she entered the majestic room of The Alpha. She peered across the lightly dimmed room and saw the sleeping creature, carefully tucked in the bed.
