“Mom, are you going to allow an illegitimate son to take over what you and Dad worked so hard to build?” Cael asked.
They had just had a very uncomfortable breakfast at the table with everyone sitting at the table and Charles continuously throwing praises at Cade for being able to use his marriage to pump up the image of the company.
Everyone knew they were putting on a show and Cael regretted it a bit because if he had known that his grandfather’s choice for marriage was Ophelia Fris maybe he would have considered it. She was hot and he had tried to ask her out at a club before, she had brutally turned him down and trampled on his ego but that did not make her less hot and sexy to him, in fact, it made her more special in his eyes.
“Of course not,” Abigail said with a deep sigh. She could not say it but most times she wished Cade was her son. He was independent and got things done, Cael on the other hand just waited for his mom to get things done for him instead. Just like how it was now.
He was waiting for her to do something for him with the inheritance issue, why did he refuse his grandfather’s condition and make things difficult for them like this? “What have tout thought about?” she asked him and he froze midway putting a chip in his mouth.
“What?” he asked blinking rapidly.
“What is your plan? What can we do? What do you think we can do?” she asked again trying to gaslight herself that he did not hear or understand what she said the first time.
“I dont have aby plan..” he stammered and seh sighed agan. “Mom, you have always been the planner, don’t you remember?” he said and she stood up and walked to the window of her room staring down at the ground.
“This is the reason your grandfather does not trust you” she said brutally causing him to gasp.
“Mom, that was too harsh,” he said before throwing some chips into his mouth and munching loudly on them.
“Get rid of the chips,” Abigail said in an annoyed voice.
“Why?”
“Because you just had breakfast” she said turning to him with a frown on her face.
Cael dropped the bag of chips to the table in front of him and leaned into the chair crossing his hands across his chest.
“What are you still doing here?” she asked. She was feeling extra irritable today since Charles had doted on Cade all through the breakfast, it seemed like the marriage was going to go through.
“Waiting for you to come up with a good plan” he said and she hissed angrily as she faced the window black.
“See if you were just a tad bit more responsible then your grandfather would trust you better. For some reason on a Monday morning you are here in my room instead of being at work. How do you expect him to trust you?”
Cael knew his mom was under pressure but he thought himself of how harsh she was being on him that morning. He did not try to oppose her or defend himself, he wondered why it was suddenly a problem for him to spend time with her on a Monday morning. It had always been like that for him, he went to work at his convenience. He stood up and began to walk to the door, he would come back maybe later in the day to discuss the game plan with her when she felt better.
She knew the infamous tale of Ophelia and was hoping that she would reject him so it was a wonder that she was going along to this marriage so easily. She wondered what he had dangled in front of her. Then it hit her at that moment if they would stop this marriage they had to find the contract between them and reveal it to the world.
“Cael” she said as the bright idea popped into her mind stopping him from leaving. He stopped at the door turning to her and their eyes met.
“You have an idea and from the way your eyes are twinkling, I have to see it might be too good an idea” Cael said.
“The only way to stop the inheritance from going through would be to stop the marriage” she said hoping her son would get what she was trying to say at once but he stared at her like he was waiting for her to elaborate.
She sighed and shook her head, maybe she was reaping the fruits of her labour, when Cade was doing ninth-grade maths in sixth grade she should have somehow pushed her so too, maybe he would have turned out better in the long run.
“We need to find a reason to break them up”
“Oh that is actually a very good plan”
“Then you should find something out”
“Me?”
“Then should I do it?” Abigail asked before adding. “Should I do all the work around here? I won’t be the one inheriting the company after all”
“How do I get this information from him? You know that we don’t see eye to eye so how do you want me to do this?’ Cael asked plumping back into the seat.
“Cael honey,” Abigail said her voice low.
“Mom, that low tone is scary”
“I can not do everything for you, moreover maybe if your grandfather sees you putting in some kind of work in trying to take Cade down he would consider you too as a potential candidate because at the moment he does not”
Abigail hated the way things turned out, just when Charles was going to step down for her husband Edward but he died leaving Charles to continue being the chairman. If Edward was the chairman and was getting ready to hand over she was sure Cael would be getting it instead of Cade.
“Wy are you still here?” Abigail watched him glued to the chair.
“What?”
“Aren’t you going to get to work?” Abihaoil knew in her heart that she had to work as well or else this plan was going to flop badly.
