As Cade’s car rounded up the corner to the office he saw a familiar body and figure but believed his mind was playing tricks on him and as he got up close sure enough Harper Davis was standing there at the front door of his office building.
“What is she doing here?” he asked himself causing his driver to look at him from the glass.
“Sir?”
“Not you,” Cade said dismissively. “Park the car” he said suddenly causing him to come to a halt and the cars in his convoy at the back too suddenly stopping.
When Harper saw the convoy come in she knew he was the one and all she had to do was find a way to approach him. She blessed her stars now that their cars suddenly stopped a few meters from her.
Luke the driver waited for instructions and Sue who was in the front right next to the driver kept checking his face for instructions. “Ms Sue, can you get security?”
“For who or what sir?” Sue asked confused as she tried to review the environment from the side mirror and her eyes landed on the lady walking towards their car. Sue cussed herself out for not seeing the girl before Cade had seen her.
The closer she got to the car the more Sue recognised her, she was the girl Cade had brought home suddenly whom everyone thought was his rebellious phase. Sue always worked in the chairman’s office and was deployed to work for Cade when he resumed at the office.
Cade did not allow any contact between his family and the girl but because Sue was understudying him already at that time she knew what the girl looked like. “Is that Harper Davis?” Sue let out without thinking it through first.
“What? How do you know her?” Cade asked confused. He was certain no one knew her, when he brought her back then he was going to tell his grandfather he wanted to settle down with her and stay back at Starlit Haven and leave the family politics because he suddenly fell in love with Harper.
His grandfather had however given him a counterproposal and told him that no matter what he would make sure to deliver the company to his hands before dying and based on those words he was suddenly snapped out of the trance he was as if he had been cured that was how he broke it off with her and tried his best to stay away and then reinforcing his thoughts, LOVE WAS NOT FOR THE WEALTHY, IT DID NOT EXIST FOR THEM.
Sue equally had an experience of constantly trying to block calls from Harper for the last six months. She had not told Cade since it was nothing out of the ordinary that she could not handle. It was as though Cade was a celebrity, there was always someone trying to talk to him over the phone, so she did not think too much about it.
Sue fumbled with her phone but before she could dial the security number, Harper was beside the car trying to look in through the tinted glass. Cade and everyone in the car knew that she could not see through but for some reason, they all held their breath.
“What should I do?” Luke asked breaking the silence.
“Should I have security escort her out of here?” Sue asked following up as she was also very confused as to what to do at that time.
“Let it be” Cade said taking off his seatbelt. Maybe he thought it too cruel to have her escorted out by security when they had a history together, He pushed the door open and she stopped back allowing the door to open fully. When his security escort saw the door open up they all came down waiting standby.
Cade stepped down and Harper exclaimed. “I knew it was you” she said as she ran into his hands wrapping her hands around his torso. He froze not knowing what to do. The escorts who had come down from the car charged at them and he lifted his hands to stop them from coming to pry her away from him.
He tapped her hand and she let go taking a step back so she could see him clearly. “Oh, how I have missed you” she exclaimed again causing him to press his lips together.
“What are you doing here?” he asked with a firm distant voice.
“To see you” she beamed happy that her plan had gone on with a single motion and had not failed at any time at all.
“Why?”
“Welllll” she dragged out swaying from side to side. “Brace yourself this is good news” she said with so much excitement that she might have as well been jumping on the spot in excitement at that point.
“I moved here to be closer to you” she squealed when she did not get a reaction out of him.
Cade stood there in awe unable to comprehend what she was saying. He opened his mouth ready to hurt her feelings in all the ways he could think of. He did have a thing for her in the past, seeing her now did not hurt as much as it did before anyway so he knew he was over her.
“I don’t know the reason you have come here, maybe to work but I have to ask you to leave now,” he said.
“What no I’m not here for work. I relocated here to be with you” she said and he shook his head with a smirk.
“I suggest you read the local news here, maybe you should have done that before you came here,” he said going back a bit.
“Oh please you expect me to believe you are together with that girl?” she asked and he nodded.
“That is not true” she said being in denial as she bit the corner of her lip.
“Why would I be in a fake relationship?” he asked her.
“To make a headline?” she asked.
He silently turned to his car and opened the door and looked back at her. “I wish you good luck” he said before entering leaving her standing there gaping at him as the car drove into thin air.
