“Mr. Holland, since I just turned eighteen this year, I want to join the army.”
“Joining the army is my dream, and it was my grandfather’s last wish and my father’s hope.”
“If I don’t join the army, I am willing to donate my bone marrow for free to save your Janessa.”
Quentin and his companion patiently listened to him, while the grandmother beside them looked worried.
“But if I donate now, I’m afraid it will damage my health, and I won’t be able to join the army.”
Jax Reeves sighed helplessly.
“Jax has had a tough life. He has been dependent on me since he was little.”
“His grandfather died honorably on the battlefield, and his remains were never found. His parents are now in the Jiangbei Special Forces, protecting the people of Jiangbei.”
“Our family hasn’t had a meal together in years.”
The grandmother began to sob, and Eileen sat beside her to comfort her.
“My parents told me from a young age that a good man should aspire to great things. When capable, one should take on the responsibility of protecting the country.”
“Only by protecting the country can we protect our home.”
“So, Mr. Holland, I appreciate your kindness, but none of us can help each other. Please forgive me.”
Hearing Jax Reeves say this, Quentin smiled slightly and nodded in understanding.
“Jax, I can help you with this.”
Quentin said confidently.
“Mr. Holland, please don’t joke with me.”
Jax thought Quentin was joking with him.
The requirements for joining the army are strict; it’s not something that money or power can easily achieve.
“I’m serious. If you trust me, I can help you.”
As the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Quentin could easily arrange for Jax Reeves to join the army. It was a small matter for him.
“How can I trust you, Mr. Holland?”
Jax Reeves still had doubts.
“If I succeed, will you agree to save Janessa?”
“If you can help me, I will definitely save Janessa.”
Seeing Quentin’s confidence, Jax Reeves decided to trust him. After all, he had nothing to lose.
“It’s a deal then.”
Quentin then called Otto and asked him to come to Jax Reeves’ house personally.
They sat in the hall, drinking tea and chatting while waiting.
About half an hour later, a military vehicle stopped at Jax Reeves’ door.
Eileen opened the door and led in several soldiers in uniform, their expressions solemn and their postures dignified.
“Mr. Holland, I’m here.”
Otto and his subordinates saluted Quentin. He wore a military uniform adorned with numerous medals on his chest and shoulders.
“Lord Vance!” Jax Reeves and his grandmother exclaimed excitedly.
“Maeve, Jax, long time no see!”
Otto was equally excited.
“You know each other?” Quentin was a bit surprised.
“Mr. Holland, you might not know this, but Jax’s parents are key members of my special forces unit.”
“I’ve visited their home a few times. I should have accompanied you earlier.”
Otto explained. Seeing his respect for Quentin, Jax Reeves and Maeve were even more astonished by Quentin’s identity.
At this moment, Jax Reeves felt even more respect for Quentin. He must be an extraordinary figure; if he said he could help, there would be no problem.
“Otto, I called you here mainly to ensure that after Jax saves Janessa, he can join your unit-or any unit in the country!”
“If anyone objects, tell them it’s my order!”
Quentin said calmly.
“Mr. Holland, rest assured. I’ll arrange for Jax to join the unit.”
“You can take him back to the Southeastern Region to treat Miss Janessa without worry.”
Quentin nodded, and Jax Reeves was thrilled.
“Mr. Holland, Lord Vance, is this real?” Jax Reeves felt like he was dreaming.
Who was this man that even War King Otto treated him with such respect?
“Boy, would Mr. Holland lie to you? Hurry up and thank Mr. Holland!”
“If you don’t behave in the unit, I’ll have someone teach you a lesson. Got it?”
“Understood! Thank you, Mr. Holland!” Jax Reeves stood up excitedly and saluted Quentin.
“No need to be so formal. You’ve helped me a lot too.” Quentin smiled slightly.
“This kid has learned well, haha.” Otto laughed and patted Jax Reeves on the shoulder so hard that it hurt a bit.
“I’ve practiced at home…” Jax Reeves said shyly.
“Alright, since everyone is here, let’s stay for a meal,” Maeve said warmly.
“That sounds great. It’s been a long time since I’ve had Maeve’s cooking.”
“Mr. Holland, Maeve’s cooking is unforgettable once you’ve tried it.”
They laughed joyfully. With Janessa’s illness finally being treated, Quentin felt relieved.
Maeve busied herself in the kitchen with Eileen helping her. One by one, delicious homemade dishes were brought to the table.
With good food and wine, everyone chatted happily at the table. Time seemed to freeze in this warm and beautiful moment, though it felt like something was missing.
After a satisfying meal, Otto bid farewell and returned home. Quentin also retired to the guest room for a rare restful sleep after drinking so heartily.
Eileen watched his sleeping face, weary and worn out.
Thinking of the hardships Quentin had faced over the past five years, she felt grateful that he could finally rest.
For him, she was willing to be his strong support for life, even if it was just as a subordinate.
She gently touched Quentin’s face and gazed at him for a long time before turning back to her room.
