Outside the airport parking lot, Quentin and his group were preparing to leave.
“Mr. Holland, what brings you here this time?” Otto couldn’t help but wonder about Quentin’s sudden arrival in Jiangbei.
Quentin explained Janessa’s illness to him.
“Mr. Holland, don’t be too upset. Miss Janessa will be fine,” Otto reassured. “Shall I accompany you to find the bone marrow match?”
Knowing Janessa’s condition, Otto, as Quentin’s subordinate, was also very concerned.
“Otto, thank you for your concern on behalf of Janessa,” Quentin replied. “Eileen and I will go; there’s no need to make a big fuss.”
Hearing this, Otto didn’t press further. “In that case, I’ll wait for your good news, Mr. Holland. Let’s meet at the Governor’s Mansion then. If you encounter any trouble, feel free to contact me. You can use this car for transportation; I hope it suffices.”
Otto pointed to a nearby Hongqi L5, a car not easily accessible even with money.
Quentin nodded in acknowledgment. After saying their goodbyes, Quentin and Eileen drove off.
After a journey, they arrived at a modest town, bought some common gifts along the way, and finally stopped at an ordinary residential building.
They got out of the car and approached the door. Beside it was a rusty iron nameplate with four prominent characters: “Military Family!” These words symbolized military honor and were a source of pride for the family.
Quentin knocked on the door. After a moment, a kind elderly woman answered.
“Young man, who are you looking for?” she asked curiously.
“Grandma, is Jax Reeves home?” Quentin asked politely, having already reviewed Jax Reeves’ personal information.
“Oh, you’re Jax’s friend. He’s at home. Come in and have a seat,” the elderly woman warmly invited them in.
In the living room, she offered them tea while Quentin placed the gifts on the table.
“Thank you, Grandma,” they said courteously.
“Oh, young man, there’s no need to bring gifts when visiting us,” she said happily despite her words.
“Grandma, it’s our first visit; it’s only proper,” Quentin replied.
“What a good child,” she remarked, growing fonder of Quentin.
“Jax, come down! Your friends are here to see you,” she called upstairs. Soon, footsteps echoed as someone hurried down.
“Is this lovely girl your girlfriend?” the elderly woman asked with a kind smile.
“Grandma, you’re mistaken. He’s my brother,” Eileen explained, blushing slightly at the comment.
The elderly woman chuckled knowingly; at her age, she could easily recognize young love.
At that moment, a young man descended the stairs. He was tall and well-built with strong features and a resolute demeanor that exuded a natural air of authority despite his youth.
“Sir and Miss, who might you be?” Jax Reeves asked.
“Hello, I’m Quentin.”
“Eileen.”
They introduced themselves with polite smiles.
“Jax Reeves.”
“Where are you from, and why are you looking for me?” Jax asked curiously.
“We’re from the Southeastern Region. We’re here to ask for your help,” Quentin explained.
Jax’s eyes flickered as if he recalled something related to Quentin’s request. “You’re the father of the little girl with leukemia, right? I’m deeply sorry for your situation, but I’m afraid I can’t help.”
The elderly woman sighed helplessly beside them.
“Jax, if you agree to save my daughter Janessa, I’ll meet any condition you set,” Quentin pleaded emotionally. He was determined to secure Jax’s help for Janessa’s sake.
“Mr. Holland, I genuinely want to help you, but I have my own difficulties,” Jax said regretfully. “Please go back; I’m sure you’ll find another matching donor.”
“I’ve already checked every bone marrow registry in the country. You’re the only perfect match,” Quentin insisted. “Janessa’s life is in your hands. She’s only five years old; as her father, I’m desperate.”
Thinking of Janessa’s suffering brought tears to Quentin’s eyes.
“Mr. Holland…” Jax wanted to comfort him but hesitated, feeling conflicted.
“Jax, tell me about your difficulties. Maybe I can help you resolve them. If we can solve your problem, will you agree to save Janessa?” Quentin implored.
Seeing Quentin’s determination, Jax decided to share his troubles. However, he doubted Quentin could help with his issue.
“I want to join the army.”
