Veronica was in a deep slumber and was completely unresponsive.
However, Nick noticed that her breathing was unstable. He reached out to touch her face and was surprised that she was hot with fever.
Upon regaining her consciousness, Veronica’s nostrils were invaded by the smell of the hospital’s disinfectant. She looked around the blue and white room. She could not recall being brought to the hospital and she wondered who sent her to such a strange environment.
She turned around and saw Nick sitting on the sofa next to her bed. She tried to sit up, only to fell in Nick’s arm.”Don’t move.” Nick Cage’s low magnetic voice rang in her ear. “Why didn’t you say that man was your father?” He asked intently.
“If I did, would that change anything? You are both the same.” Veronica muttered weakly.
Nick said nothing. He continued holding her frail body. Veronica’s gaze landed on Nick’s tight jaw.
“It doesn’t matter. I’m used to it anyway.” He said with a long exhale. His facial muscles twitched.
“I think I’m good to go now. I want to be discharged from this hospital.” She tried to free herself from Nick’s embrace and lift the quilt out of her body. She attempted to get out of the bed but she was too weak that she ended up in Nick’s arms again.
“Let me go.” Her voice trembled with dismay.
“No, not yet. You have a fever.” Nick whispered in her ears in a soothing voice.
“Get out!” She no longer wanted to see him. With a slight change of expression, Nick got up and left the room.
She was stunned for a moment. She didn’t expect that Nick will adhere to her request that easily. She had known him for his bad temper and desire to always argue.
She lay still in the pillows with a throbbing head due to fever. She never expected her body to fail like that. It must have been due to Tom’s sudden appearance which surprised her and Nick’s unreasonable demands.
All of a sudden, her attention averted to the knock on the door.
“President Dora.” She greeted the woman who entered the room.
“I need to take your temperature.” She smiled at her and got her temperature.
“It’s now normal. You can now head back and rest. Should there be a problem, just call me and I’ll go to Winter Villa.”
“To Winter Villa? But why?” Veronica asked with a frown.
“You have no idea how badly Nick had treated me there,” she added.
“Yes, I have,” Tracy admitted.
“So, you know something then?” she looked at her unexpectedly.
“Mr. Cage told me everything. He’s aware that I helped you hide the baby. I also knew that you were Chloe’s daughter.”
“And you knew that he is the father of my child?”
“Yes.” Tracy could not imagine that Veronica and Nick would have such a dramatic entanglement. “When Mr. Cage asked me to help you, I couldn’t believe it. You were so amazing that you gave birth to six children. I’ve only seen one or two cases in my medical career. I also knew that Mr. Cage raised his hand against you. I’m sorry for that.” She stated as a matter of fact.
“There is a question that I had been meaning to ask you. Please be honest with me. If you don’t want to answer it, just pretend that I didn’t ask you, alright?” Veronica looked at her intently, hoping for answers. “Since you are the personal doctor of Nick’s mother, you might as well know what happened, right?” Tracy Dora looked at the ward door and she knew that Nick was outside.
“Forget it. Forget that I asked about it.” Veronica could sense Tracy’s fear to spill the truth.
“If I tell you the truth, would you believe me?”
“I didn’t believe it before, but now I do,” there was no expression on Veronica Parker’s face. She seemed to accept whatever Tracy Dora had said.
“It’s a tragic story. Back then, Chloe Bowen destroyed the marriage of Kevin Cage and Madam Cage. Chloe Bowen took advantage whenever the two were fighting. She pretended to pity Kevin Cage and she consoled him while also saying nasty stories about Madam Cage who was pregnant at that time. After some time, the rumors that the two were getting closer reached Madam Cage. She was so angry from the things she heard about her husband that she lost her second child and that broke them. Kevin Cage was so angry that he didn’t care much about how his wife felt at the moment. He didn’t care much that she was already suffering from depression. Until one day I saw Madam Cage lying inside the bathtub filled with blood with the young Nick Cage standing next to me. Mister Cage, who was still a teenager at that time, had seen an incident like that, and that caused him a trauma that he would probably carry until death.”
Veronica Parker stared at Tracy Dora. If what she said was true then that was worse than what she had imagined happened in the past.
She had already guessed that there was a problem with Chloe Bowen but hearing what Tracy Dora said was another matter.
She lowered her eyes and stared at the quilt on her leg and said nothing.
She can’t believe there was a kid involved.
“What I don’t understand is why Nick Cage would let Chloe Bowen live well. She had the guts to go after Kevin Cage and let a baby die,” Veronica Parker said cautiously.
“Mister Cage thinks that it will be too easy to just kill people who had wronged him.”
Veronica Parker noticed something in Tracy Dora’s looks. It was as if there was something else.
Was Nick Cage plotting something to get revenge on Chloe Bowen and Kevin Cage?
But Veronica Parker could not seem to think of any plot that will work against Chloe Bowen.
Tracy Dora looked at Veronica Parker and wondered whether the revenge of Mister Cage would even take place now that there were other people involved, now that there was Veronica Parker.
“With all due respect, your mother is not a good woman. You once said that your mother gave up on you. If someone like her can give up on you once then there will be a second time. Although what the words I had said will hurt you, I do hope that you will remember that you are a good woman and you do not deserve to get hurt again.”
“Thank you for saying that,” Veronica Parker said. “Did Nick Cage blamed you for helping me hide our babies?”
Veronica Parker felt that it was not easy for Tracy Dora to deal with Nick Cage’s speculations. Especially when he found out the truth that he used his cruel and violent methods. She felt guilty just thinking about what Tracy had to go through.
“No, he didn’t blame me, and don’t you worry about me. After all, I am Madam Cage’s personal doctor,” Tracy Dora said with a reassuring smile.
That’s what Tracy Dora thought before when she found out that Nick Cage fired her directly.
Later on, she was reinstated and she felt very confused until she knew about the existence of the child.
“All right, it’s all right. You can leave the hospital soon. Don’t worry too much about what I told you. It’s not your fault,” Tracy Dora said before she stood up.
Veronica Parker came to her senses and said, “Wait a minute!”
“What’s the matter?” Tracy Dora asked.
“Can I have some contraceptive?” Veronica Parker asked awkwardly.
Tracy Dora understood, “I’ve already given you a birth control shot.”
“Thank you.”
“It was what Mister Cage ordered me to do.”
Veronica Parker didn’t say a word. Is she going to be grateful? Nick Cage, that madman, the desperate look is terrible!
“If you have any questions about this in the future, you can call me or anyone in the hospital. Besides, this hospital is owned by Mister Cage. ”
“I never knew that. What else isn’t his?” Veronica Parker asked seriously.
“The things he doesn’t own are the things he doesn’t want,” With that, Tracy Dora smiled and went out of the room.
Veronica Parker was speechless and wondered if Nick Cage would ever want something that is not extravagant in nature.
Back when she was in King Group for a few days she noticed how ambitious he was.
Veronica Parker leaned against the pillow as she dazed.
She thought about what Tracy Dora said to her.
Did she tell her the truth in the hope that she will forgive Nick Cage for what he had done?
