Chapter 168 It is not what you think it is

Veronica looked at Tom, scrutinizing the man. She was wondering if he had changed for the better. She is dying to know if there is any truth in everything that he said. Despite the urge to give him the benefit of the doubt, she is beyond afraid to trust him.
“Do you know where I live?” She asked him. “Your mother told me.”
This fuelled Veronica’s anger. She wanted nothing but to move to a different place as soon as she arrives home. She turned her back and left Tom without saying a single word.
Tom immediately got out of the car and walked hurriedly to catch up with her.
“I will take you home.” Tom persuaded her.
Veronica continued walking as if she heard nothing. She wanted to stay away from Tom and Chloe and nothing could change her mind.
Unbeknown to her, there is a black car that was parked just across the road. Nick sent a bodyguard to keep an eye on Veronica.
“There is a strange man who followed Veronica outside the supermarket, sir. They even hugged and it didn’t seem that she minds it at all. I can’t see any hint of anger from Veronica.”
Upon coming home, Veronica closed the door behind. She hurried to pack her things with her hands shaking. Leaving the house is all that she could think of. She rushed outside the house but immediately stopped on her track when she almost bumped into someone.
The figure of a man turned out to be Nick.
“Where do you think you’re going?” His voice laced with menace and danger.
“W-what are you doing here?” Veronica stuttered in surprise.
Nick said nothing in response. His black eyes were cold and fierce. He took dangerous steps towards Veronica. She slowly retreated as he walked on to slowly close the gap between them.
“I repeat. Where are you going?” Nick demanded an answer from her. His voice was hoarse and terrifying that Veronica felt numb and was not able to move.
“I want to move out of this house. Please let me do that.” She looked at him with an innocent frown on her face.
“You want to move out of here? To what? To run away with someone?” His face has no hint of emotion but his voice is frightening.
“I don’t know what you are talking about!” Veronica was puzzled by the accusation that he’s throwing at her.
“That is the reason why you want to leave the Winter Villa. Am I right?”
Veronica paid no heed and staggered to leave him.
However, she was only able to take several steps when Nick grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. Veronica almost stumbled. She tried to get away but his hand was tightly clamped around her wrist that she hissed in pain.
“What on earth are you doing? Let me go!”
“Tell me, who is that man that you are with a while ago.”
Veronica was taken aback. She could not think of any man that she has been with earlier, except of course, from Tom. She figured out that perhaps Nick saw her with him. That must be the reason for his anger right now.
“Did it ring a bell?” Nick’s eyes bore into her like daggers. She gritted her teeth in indignance and didn’t say a thing.
“Do you think I’m too foolish to let that one pass? Are you trying to find another man?”
With that, he pressed her body directly against the wall.
Veronica screamed in fury.
“Am I not enough for you? Am I not able to keep you satisfied?” He pinched her chin and forced her to look at him. Veronica felt a nagging pain in her jaw.
“It is not what you think it is.” She tried to explain.
“What is it then?” he growled at her.
Veronica felt the difficulty of breathing. She bit her trembling lower lip. She was not expecting to see his brother at all and she has nothing to do with him.
“Why would you care anyway? I already told you that it is not what you think it is.” She told him with unwavering stubbornness.
Nick was still adamant. He thought that Veronica was trying to outsmart him and was hiding something behind her terrible lies.
Nick could no longer contain his anger. She grabbed Veronica in the arms and threw her across the room. Veronica gasped as she was thrown into the bed.
She fell into her back but she tried to get up but failed to do so when Nick immediately pinned her down. “What are you doing, Nick?”
Nick dared to say nothing. He roughly tore off her clothes, exposing a good amount of skin on her shoulders.
Veronica resisted but Nick was too strong. ” Please! No!”
Nick was stupefied and his eyes lacked mercy.
“Stop moving! It’s no use!”
Veronica continued to struggle under his tight grip but it was all in vain. It was chilly but silent outside, contrary to the chaos and heat inside the room. The lamps and other stuff in the nightstand fell off due to their vigorous activity on the bed.
Veronica could no longer resist. She was so weak that all she could do is cry. Nick drained the last ounce of strength that she had. It was only until dawn when Nick decided to stop.
He went outside the house and asked the bodyguards to hold the handcuffs for him.
Veronica felt groggy upon waking up. She slowly opened her eyes and saw the sunlight glimmer behind the curtain. Her body was sore and she barely had enough energy to open her eyes.
But then, she remembered that she has to leave the place. Despite her body aching and the discomfort that she felt, she tried to stand up.
As soon as she made an attempt, dizziness took all over her body and she slumped back in the pillow, gasping for some air.
She wondered if all her strength has been drained due to what happened last night. A single movement can already make her foggy-headed. She drowsed into a deep slumber again.
Nick arrived at KING Group when it was nearly noon. He took long strides out of the elevator as soon as it opened.
Kay quickened her pace to catch up with him. “Mr. Cage! We found information about the man. His name is Tom Parker. He’s 45. He’s new here and is currently residing in Caesar Hotel. He made two phone calls to Veronica, but for some reason, she didn’t answer any of them.”
Nick turned to face her; his eyes were sharp.
“Is there a problem, sir?” Kay felt nervous and stupefied for a moment. She wondered if she said something wrong to Nick.
Nick disregarded her and took out his phone from his pocket instead. He called someone at the Winter Villa. “Ask her who Tom Parker is.”
On the other line, Bob asked Isabella the same question.
“It’s Veronica’s father,” she answered.
Nick did not wait for Bob to relay to him what Isabella said. He heard her already and with that, she hung up the phone. “Damn it!”
Kay was beyond confused and had no idea what’s going on. She had never seen Mr. Cage lose his temper. But then, she realized that Mr. Cage is often like that when the matter involves Veronica.
Nick went back to the house. Upon opening the door, he saw a motionless body lying on the bed. It is as if she never moved a bit since he left her. There are clear red marks on the slightly exposed delicate shoulders. He gently closed the door and proceeded to walk towards the bed.
