Veronica Parker continued watching him as he opened his mouth as he chomped into the meat.
She startled for a while. He ate six big chunks of meat already.
His face was inscrutable. He was hard to read. He looked like he was someone who has an easy life.
She thought of not to care too much about what he was thinking for as long as he does not take his kids for granted.
Isabella watched them as they eat. She was delighted to see how they were today and hoped they could stay like this moving forward.
After dinner, Isabella started to make the bed for Veronica Parker. The children were still playing with the toys Veronica Parker bought them.
“You don’t have to do this”, said Veronica to Isabella.
“I am not doing anything when I am paid 100, 000 dollars a month just to take care of the children”, Isabella said.
“It is not easy to take care of these children”, Veronica Parker laughed, “Let me do that”.
“I am overjoyed taking care of the kids. Look at them, they are so adorable. They also do not need too much attention so I thought I should do something else. Let me take care of this,” Isabella said.
Veronica Parker could sense her affection for the children. She stared at them for a while and could not describe their happiness. She brought her attention back to Isabella and asked, ”
“Mr. Cage was not complaining about his children. He slept with the children last night and I am sure he didn’t get good sleep when I saw him this morning. I think he just finds it difficult taking care of them,” Isabella chuckled.
Veronica Parker now understood Peter’s attitude towards him.
“He was a bit snappy to Peter sometimes, but I think he is a good father,” Veronica Parker said.
“Yes, that is what the housekeeper thought, too”, Isabella paused for a while, “Peter acts normal when he was at school but acts differently when he is at home. He keeps asking for his mother, especially during the night. Do you think maybe you can fulfill his emptiness?”
Veronica Parker was silent. She does not like the thought of being with Nick Cage.
It was impossible for her to like him. She was afraid of having him around.
No one, even Isabella, could understand her.
She stood, asked the children to take a bath, and send them to bed. She kissed and hugged them one by one.
“Mommy will just take a shower. I will sleep with you after I am done”, Veronica said to the children.
“Promise?” Peter said.
“Yes, sweetheart”, she replied with a smile.
She was in her room when the door suddenly opened. It was Nick Cage.
What was he doing there?
“Do you need anything?” she asked Nick Cage.
“Why do you think I’m here?” Nick Cage replied with aggressiveness in his eyes.
Veronica Parker did not respond.
Nick Cage walked closer to her. He leaned her against the wall, and she was not able to unleash.
She was beating fast.
“Are you provoking me?” he asked.
Veronica Parker stared at him thinking what he would do next. Nick Cage pressed her shoulders so tight that she could not move.
“Are you mad at me?” her voice was shaking.
“You have nothing to do with her anymore”, he said in an angry tone.
She remembered the option he gave her before to become Chloe Bowen’s daughter or to become his woman. She chose the latter.
“She doesn’t matter anymore. I chose you to be with the children”, she said.
“Are you going to take a bath?” he asked.
“How can I if you’re still here?” she said angrily.
“We can take a bath together”, he smirked.
Veronica Parker was not happy with what he said. This man wanted to shower with her.
She was about to walk away when she tipped to his left foot.
“Ouch!” she startled. She accidentally pushed Nick Cage and they fell on the floor. He was on top of her.
“You can’t wait?” he said in a hoarse voice.
She frowned and said, “It’s not what you think. We have to get up”.
His eyes were aggressive. He held her tight. She could not get up.
She was startled. She was about to struggle when they heard the children running from outside the door.
They were still up.
“Mommy! Daddy! What are you playing?” one of the children said.
“I want to play, too!” Peter went in.
“Me too!” said Julie.
“Let’s play!” followed by Josh.
“This is going to be fun!” said Lily.
Veronica Parker panicked, “Why are you…”
The kids started to jump to them even before she finished.
They stood up. The kids climbed up to their dad. He was strong that he could bear the weight of his children.
Nick Cage looked at him. She was frightened and started to walk away.
“I’m climbing up!” Peter sat on his father’s shoulder.
