Chapter 32 Trauma

Veronica felt extremely uneasy, and now she is sure that it will be difficult to escape.
However, she also knew very well that even if she can escape here, she can’t go far away with the power of Nick Cage. She was certain that she would be found quickly by Nick.
At that moment, Nick doesn’t look like he can’t be appeased by Veronica.
Tracy explained under pressure and tried to defend her. “But her symptoms are asthma.”
“Say it.”
“I don’t know yet. Let me ask her a few questions.” Tracy Dora went up to Veronica and asked her. “Have you ever had asthma before?”
Veronica hesitated but nodded after a while.
“When was the last time you experienced it?” Tracy asked.
Veronica bit her lip as she responded. “It looks like when I was fourteen years old.”
“Under what circumstances did it happen?”
Veronica’s eyes drooped and her hands in front of the physician stirred nervously.
Tracy Dora observed her reaction and saw that she was scared, and her voice was low and gentle. “Don’t be afraid, I’m just a doctor in front of you. I won’t hurt you. As long as you tell me, I’ll cure you.”
Veronica withstood the shudder of her body, and the memory that remained unbearable for many decades flashed in her mind. She didn’t want to think about it or say what happened to her because it scarred her big time. She seemed to gurgle and bleed whenever she opened up about it.
Yet, Nick will not spare her if she did not pass this hurdle.
What should the little ones do if something happened to her?
The unbearable memory in Veronica Parker’s mind was instantly replaced by the innocent, lively, and chubby look of six little children which made her brave inside and said, “When my dad hit me.”
Nick Cage’s black eyes trembled slightly and looked at her deeply. Veronica Parker’s asthmatic reaction was stimulated when they were in the suite right after he attempted to punch her.
Tracy Dora was surprised. She saw that Veronica was suffering from asthma caused by psychological problems, but she didn’t expect it to be this worse.
‘So, Nick forcibly dragged her in the hotel suite but the girl was not hurt. It seems like what happened inside triggered her body. Maybe because she was scared when the instinctive stimulation activated.’ She interpreted the situation.
“After my parents divorced, I lived with my father. He had a bad temper and often beat me. Later, when I was 14 years old, he attempted to hit me again. I didn’t know what was wrong at that time. My body began to feel like something was wrong. My chest felt stuffy and I was out of breath. I was admitted to the hospital right away. The doctor said that I was suffering from asthma caused by the stress response.”
“And then what happened? Did it happen again?” Tracy probed more.
“Later when my grandmother learned that I was in the hospital, she took me back to their country. My father couldn’t hit me in front of my grandmother, so he didn’t do it again.” Veronica Parker said as she recalled her painful past.
She thought it was difficult for her to accept what happened, but she didn’t expect to say it easily after seeing the faces of her children. It wasn’t so difficult with the help of her children’s faces that motivated her.
Tracy looked back at Nick as if she were asking for his advice.
Nick got up. His cold and oppressive aura was evident, and in a low intimidating voice, he answered. “Throw her away from where I can’t see her.” With that, he stood up and left.
If someone discerned the look of the bodyguards that nodded slightly next to her, it showed that this must be conveyed and reported to Kay Tours who was the right hand of the KING Group.
Which meant that Veronica doesn’t have to be in the KING Group anymore.
As soon as Nick left, Dra. Tracy walked up to Veronica Parker and told her to sit for a moment. “Wait a minute, I’ll get you some medicine.”
“No, I’m okay now.”
“It’s always good to put it on your bag, just in case.” With that, Tracy went to get her medicine.
Veronica stood there in a trance and turned away.
Does she want medicine? Of course not.
This is her psychological problem, although medicine affects her, the best thing she could hope is not to be beaten next time.
She was fine all the time for the past years except when she met Nick Cage. She never had an attack before.
Presumably, there will be no intersection with Nick Cage in the future.
She is the daughter of Chloe Bowen. It’s too late for him to hate her.
When Veronica got out of the hospital, she walked for a while but her weak body finally couldn’t bear it. She decided to settle down by the altar near the plantation of green plants by the roadside. She knew she needed a good rest.
She was determined not to go back by taxi, and she’s going to the subway station instead.
Veronica Parker looked up at the moon in the sky, it was round and bright that somehow soothed her chaotic mind.
It was a thrilling night.
After the collapse of her whole body, she knew that there will be a kind of palpitations that she experienced a while ago for the rest of her life.
After a while, the moon in the sky was replaced by a human face and Veronica Parker’s eyes trembled. When he saw who it was, her face turned sour and withdrew her sight coldly.
She stood up and attempted to leave.
After taking two steps, Veronica was suddenly caught by the wrist. She was surprised and turned angrily. “Let me go!”
“Why don’t you have that angst and same spirit in front of Nick?” Toby asked.
Then, before Veronica could realize who it was, she picked up like a princess. He put her in the passenger seat of his car and fastened her seat belt.
“You!” Veronica Parker glared at him angrily.
“Don’t move.” Toby slammed the door.
Veronica went to answer the door at once, but she couldn’t open it.
‘What kind of stupid car is this? If the door closes, it won’t open the central lock!’ She furiously thought.
Veronica Parker regarded this car worth more than 4 million dollars as a broken car.
Toby Cage sat in the driver’s seat and Veronica turned around to face him and said angrily. “Let me out of the car! Who in their right mind forces someone to sit inside your car?”
Toby looked at her silently as he started the car.
“Don’t you understand?” Veronica doesn’t want to look at him in the eye here.
Toby took something out of his pocket and threw it on her lap.
She was stunned when she saw the medicine, a spray for asthma.
She suddenly looked up. “Are you in the hospital? Does that mean you heard everything I said in the hospital?”
“I didn’t expect you to have such a hidden disease. There’s nothing good that will happen if you continue to care about the past. Don’t dwell on it anymore. People should move on.” Toby said faintly.
Veronica sneered. “You’re right. People really need to move on. So, excuse me. Why on earth did you force me to sit in your car? Do I look so helpless in your eyes?”
Toby Cage put his hand on his chin and rubbed it slightly. He felt butterflies on his belly as he locked his gaze at Veronica Parker, narrowed his eyes, think, and said, “An unwritten human decency sympathizes for the weak.” He teased back as he smiled smugly at her.
Veronica Parker gritted her teeth and resisted the impulse to slap him in the face. “Let me out of the car!”
Toby started the car and throttled out. “You can jump out of the car.”
“What’s wrong with you, Toby Cage? Do I have anything to do with you?” Veronica Parker just wanted to make a clean break with him.
“Does an ex-girlfriend count?”
“Go to hell!” Veronica couldn’t help it and pushed him with her hand.
Toby accurately grasped her hand with his palms. He tightly clutched her hand and said, “Hey, I’m driving and I don’t want to die with you.”
Veronica Parker withdrew her hand forcefully. “Find another woman to die with you!”
She sat angrily on the passenger seat and didn’t talk nor bothered to banter with him.
Toby looked at Veronica Parker as he drove, and her angry look made his eyes deep and soft.
“Address.” Toby gently asked.
What Veronica Parker hates the most is that he dared to ask for her address. After all, the six children are just a big secret that she hides with all her might.
She won’t even talk about them to Chloe Bowen.
But then, as unbelievable for her to say, this man she was in the car with appeared trustful enough.
“Sunshine Apartment.” Veronica Parker was silent for a moment and said it.
The car stopped outside the Sunshine Apartment and Veronica pulled the seat belt. She opened the door to get out of the car. At this time, the door could be opened and she can see that it was because of the key in Toby’s hand.
Veronica, who got off the car, stood by the side of the road and waited for Toby Cage to leave. What shocked her is that Toby also got out of the car.
He took off his coat as he walked towards Veronica Parker.
As soon as he reached where she is, the dark striped coat was put on Veronica’s shoulder, and a warm scent waft from her shoulders mixed with the familiar scent of Toby Cage.
