Sophia’s POV
As we held each other, the gravity of the situation sank in. I knew that this was a risky endeavor, that the Rogues were a dangerous and unpredictable enemy. But I also believed in Tyler and Jake, in their vision of a world where wolves and humans could coexist peacefully. And I was willing to do whatever it took to help them achieve that goal.
With a heavy heart, Alexander picked up his phone and dialed Ethan’s number. The seconds felt like hours as he waited for his second-in-command to answer. When Ethan’s voice finally came through the line, it was filled with a mixture of surprise and curiosity.
“Alpha, what’s going on?” Ethan asked. “Just a week ago, you were suggesting we observe the Rogues’ movements and not provoke them. Why the sudden change?”
Alexander took a deep breath, his fingers gripping the phone tightly. “Ethan, the situation has escalated. The Rogues have bombed the Wolf Hunter Organization’s base, causing significant casualties. We can’t afford to wait any longer. Their disregard for human lives is clear, and they might strike again at any moment. We need to eliminate the Rogues before they commit more heinous acts.”
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, and Alexander could almost picture Ethan processing the information. Finally, Ethan spoke, his voice serious. “Understood, Alpha. I’ll get the Shadow City soldiers ready for battle. They’re already dispersed in various Rogues’ strongholds, so we can commence the extermination operation swiftly.”
Alexander nodded, even though Ethan couldn’t see him. “Thank you, Ethan. I know this is a sudden change of plans, but we can’t afford to be passive anymore. We need to protect our city and its people.”
As he hung up the phone, relief washed over him. He had made the right decision. The safety of the Shadow City and its inhabitants was his responsibility, and he couldn’t stand idly by while the Rogues threatened it.
Turning to me, he could see the gratitude in my eyes. “Thank you for trusting me, Alexander,” I said, my voice filled with emotion.
He smiled, brushing a strand of hair away from my face. “You’re my Luna, and I’ll always protect you and our pack. Now, I need to go and oversee the preparations. Promise me you’ll stay safe and strong until I return.”
Tears welled up in my eyes again as I nodded. “I promise. Just come back to me.”
He leaned down and kissed me gently, his lips warm against mine. “I will,” he whispered, and then he was gone, leaving me with a mixture of hope and fear in my heart.
As Alexander rushed to organize the Shadow City soldiers, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease gnawing at me. I knew that this mission was dangerous, that the Rogues were a formidable enemy, but I also knew that it was necessary. We couldn’t let their violence and disregard for human lives continue unchecked.
Candace, Alexander’s secretary, appeared by my side, her expression filled with concern. “Is there anything I can do for you, Luna?” she asked, using the title that had been bestowed upon me when I became part of the wolf pack.
I smiled weakly at her, touched by her kindness. “Thank you, Candace. Just knowing that Alexander is out there, trying to make our city safer, is enough for now. But please, keep me updated on any developments.”
She nodded and placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “Of course, Luna. We’ll do everything we can to support the Alpha and ensure his safe return.”
With a grateful nod, I watched as Candace hurried off to carry out her duties. I was no longer just a human in the Shadow City; I was the Luna, the Alpha’s mate, and I had a role to play in ensuring the safety of our pack.
As I sat in the dimly lit living room of our villa, the weight of worry and uncertainty settled upon my shoulders like a heavy shroud. Alexander had left hours ago to deal with the urgent situation involving the Rogues and the Wolf Hunters, and the night had fallen in his absence. My children, Daniel and Daisy, sat on the couch beside me, their young faces reflecting the concern that mirrored my own.
“Mom, why didn’t Dad come back with you?” Daniel asked, his eyes filled with innocence and curiosity.
I sighed, feeling the immense pressure of trying to explain the situation to my children in a way that wouldn’t frighten them further. I wrapped my arms around both of them, pulling them close. “Well, sweetheart,” I began, my voice gentle, “Dad had to go and take care of something very important, something that’s happening in the city right now.”
Daisy, my daughter, looked up at me with wide eyes, her lower lip quivering slightly. “Is Daddy in danger, Mom?”
I bit my lip, trying to hold back my own tears. “I don’t know, Daisy. But your dad is strong, and he’s doing everything he can to keep our city safe.”
Daniel, always the protective older brother, nodded in agreement. “Dad’s a hero, right? He’ll be okay.”
I nodded, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill over. “Yes, he’s a hero, and heroes always come back, right?” I gave them a reassuring smile, but I could feel the uncertainty hanging in the air.
They both nodded, albeit with some hesitation. “We’ll wait for Dad,” Daniel declared, his small hand gripping mine tightly.
Daisy snuggled closer to me, her voice small and vulnerable. “I miss him, Mom.”
Tears welled up in my eyes as I held them both even closer. “I miss him too, sweetheart. We’ll all be together again soon, I promise.”
As they nestled against me, I turned away, hiding my own tears. I hoped with all my heart that Alexander would return safely, that he would come back to his children who loved and missed him dearly.
