Sophia’s POV
I couldn’t believe my eyes as I stared at the TV screen, the news anchor’s words echoing in my mind. “Harborview Corporate Center has been bombed, causing chaos and casualties in the area.” My heart raced, and my thoughts were consumed by worry for Tyler and Jake.
Without wasting a moment, I knew I had to find Alexander, and tell him about this dire situation. I rushed to the car, my hands trembling as I fumbled with the keys. The drive to Alexander’s company felt like an eternity as I replayed the news report in my head, trying to make sense of what had just happened.
When I finally arrived at the sleek, glass-fronted building that housed Alexander’s company, my mind was still racing. I hurriedly parked and practically sprinted to the entrance. The security guard at the front desk greeted me with a nod, accustomed to my occasional visits.
I scanned the bustling lobby for any sign of Alexander and finally spotted him in a meeting room off to the side. He was engrossed in a discussion with his team, his brow furrowed in concentration. I gently knocked on the open door, and all eyes in the room turned towards me.
“Sorry to interrupt,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady despite the anxiety gnawing at my insides. “Alexander, can I speak with you for a moment?”
Alexander looked surprised to see me but nodded, excusing himself from the meeting. He stepped out into the hallway with me, and as soon as the door closed behind us, I couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Alexander, it’s Tyler and Jake,” I blurted out. “Their headquarters has been bombed.”
His eyes widened in shock, and he seemed to struggle for words for a moment. Finally, he said, “Wolves and Wolf Hunters, enemies… helping them could be incredibly risky.”
I knew where his hesitation came from. The longstanding enmity between the wolves of the Shadow City and the Wolf Hunters was no secret. But Tyler and Jake were different; they had been working tirelessly to bridge the gap between the two groups, believing in a future where they could coexist peacefully.
I took a deep breath, desperately trying to convey the urgency of the situation. “Alexander, you know that Tyler and Jake have been trying to build trust between the wolves and the Wolf Hunters. They’ve made progress, and now, their base has been bombed. I believe this is an opportunity for us to show our support, to build a friendship between our worlds.”
Alexander remained silent for a moment, his expression unreadable. I seized the opportunity to further explain my reasoning. “And remember Emilia, the Wolf Hunter who encountered Tyler and Jake at the Rogues’ club last week during their investigation? She was there because they believed something was off with the Rogues. If the information about the Wolf Hunter base being bombed is true, their recent investigations into the Rogues might have been compromised. This could be our chance to help both our friends and the greater good.”
He continued to furrow his brows, clearly conflicted. “Is the information about the base being bombed confirmed?” he asked.
I open the TV on Alexander’s office, as I watched the news report on the TV screen, my heart raced with fear and anxiety. The image of the demolished Wolf Hunter Organization headquarters was surreal, like something out of a nightmare. The newscaster’s voice trembled as they described the chaos and casualties caused by the bomb blast.
Alexander at beside me on the couch, his face a mixture of concern and contemplation. I turned to him, my voice quivering with worry. “Alexander, we have to do something. Tyler and Jake are in there. They could be hurt, or worse.”
He sighed deeply, his brow furrowing as he considered my words. “I understand your concern, but you also know that wolves and wolf hunters have always been enemies. Helping them now, in a situation like this, could be incredibly risky.”
I grasped his hand, my fingers trembling. “But you also know that Tyler and Jake believe in the wolves of the Shadow City. They’ve been working together on investigations recently, and I think that maybe, just maybe, this could be an opportunity for wolves and wolf hunters to build a friendship, to put aside their differences for the greater good.”
Alexander remained silent for a moment, his eyes fixed on the TV screen. I could see the gears turning in his mind as he weighed the options. Finally, he asked, “Is there any confirmation that the Wolf Hunter base has indeed been bombed? This could be a trap, a way to draw us out into the open.”
My heart pounded in my chest as I reached for the remote and turned up the volume on the TV. The news anchor was now discussing the aftermath of the explosion, showing images of firefighters and emergency responders at the scene. “I spoke to Tyler just two hours ago,” I said urgently, my voice pleading. “He confirmed it, Alexander. Their base has been bombed, and they’re in grave danger. We need to help them.”
Alexander’s gaze remained fixed on the TV for a moment longer, and then he nodded slowly. “Alright,” he said resolutely, “I’ll help. But we need a plan. We can’t just rush in blindly. We’ll gather our forces, and I’ll call Ethan. He’s in charge of the Shadow City soldiers, and he needs to prepare them for battle.”
I felt a rush of relief and gratitude, tears welling up in my eyes. I threw my arms around Alexander, embracing him tightly. “Thank you,” I whispered. “Thank you for trusting me and for helping them.”
He held me close, his arms strong and reassuring. “I trust you, and I’ll always protect you and our children,” he said, his voice filled with determination. “But remember, I’m doing this not just for you and me, but for the safety of the Shadow City and its people.”
