Mia
It was revelation day. It was a hassle trying to calm mum down after witnessing me and Quinn kissing. She had glared at us with her eyes widespread and in disbelief.
“Can someone tell me what is going on here?” She yelled.
“Please calm down, mum.” I pleaded with my face blushing red.
I was embarrassed. I shouldn’t have let this happen like this. I felt like she was disappointed in me and I hated myself. I wanted my mum to know about my relationship with the boys but it was not like this. I felt bad with the way she was looking at me and I wished that the ground would open up and swallow me whole.
“Calm down?” She squealed. “I just saw you kissing your brother while the others are looking at you. That was a passionate kiss for it to be seen as brotherly. You were sucking on each other’s tongues and Jack was looking at you as if he couldn’t wait to undress you. How can you tell me to calm down?”
I sighed. I shouldn’t have said that. “I’m sorry, mum. I will tell you everything that you want to know.” I said.
“You better.” She snorted. She turned to the boys. “Does your father know about this nonsense?”
I watched as the boys shuffled on their feet and looked down in shame, unable to say anything. I hated this. This was bad.
Jack finally summoned courage and nodded. “Yes, Vanessa. He knows about it.”
Mum yelped, looking enraged. “What? Does it mean that I am the only one that doesn’t know about your relationship? Tell me, Mia.” She barked at me.
“Sort of, yes.” I said.
“Albert!” Mum yelled.
I winced. That was loud. It was getting loud and the way mum was shouting, it would be stupid to assume that the whole house didn’t know what was going on.
“Can you keep it down, mum?” I sighed. “You are shouting loudly and everyone can hear that.”
Mum hissed at me. “You should have thought of that before dating your brother.”
This wasn’t the best time to say this but I had to say. It would be better if we can clear the confusion once and for all so we can resolve everything together.
“Actually, mum. I’m dating my brothers and not one brother.”
Mum gasped. “You are dating Jack and Quinn? This is unbelievable. No wonder Jack was looking at you like he would want to swallow you whole.”
I sighed. This was going to be a hard pill to swallow. I had imagined this on several occasions but there was never a time that I did that I thought of a better outcome. I hoped that it would turn out well this time though.
“I’m with the three of them, mum.”
Her eyes almost popped out. “You are dating the three of them?” She groaned. “Oh, Mia. Why did you do this? Why do you have to do this to me? What did I do to deserve this embarrassment?”
“I’m mated to them.”
She stared at me in confusion. “Mated? What is the meaning of that?”
I sighed. “There is a lot that you don’t know, mum, about the world that you are living in. If you will come in, we will tell you all what you want to know.”
Albert got to my bedroom, looking like he had rushed over at the sound of my mum’s voice. He looked panicked as he looked over at the faces of everyone that was present in the room.
“What happened here?” Albert asked as he got to my room.
“That is what I called you to ask you.” Mum asked as she whirled to face Albert. “What is going on here? Why is it that my daughter is dating your sons and I know nothing about it? What is it about this secret that I don’t know about?”
Albert sighed as he looked at his sons. They looked at him to tell him that the secret was already out and he shouldn’t find any more excuses as he always did.
“Babe.” He sighed, moving closer to her.
She hissed and raised her hand up. “Don’t you dare babe me!” She yelled. “What is going on here? I’m embarrassed already that this happened, that my daughter is dating her brothers. Aren’t you embarrassed that your sons are doing the unthinkable with my daughter?”
“Technically, we aren’t family. We aren’t the same blood so we didn’t really commit any crime.” Jack said.
Mum whirled on him, her eyes bulging wide as she glared at him with anger. “Don’t you dare start with me, boy.”
Jack shrugged, always unrepentant. “I was just saying so that you would get less worked up.”
She ignored him and turned to me. “Break up with him.” She sighed, wincing as she remembered something. “I forgot they are three. You should break up with them all and end this nonsense.”
“I can’t, mum.” I said. “I’m mated to them. I can’t leave them.”
“What is this thing I keep hearing about being mated?”
“It means that I’m as good as married to them. I have an emotional connection to them.”
She turned to Albert. “What is she talking about?”
Albert sighed. “I’m a werewolf, Vanessa.”
Mum stared at him as if she couldn’t believe her ears. “A… A… A werewolf?”
“Yes. I can shift into a wolf and the same applies to my sons. We are all wolves. Well, I’m sorry to inform you that your daughter is a werewolf too.”
Mum shook her head. “You are kidding? That can’t be right. She is not a werewolf. How can she be? I’m human and gave birth to her with a human father. She couldn’t be a werewolf. I’m sure she isn’t. She couldn’t be.”
Mum sounded so close to a panic state that I pitied her. She finally got a grip on herself and looked at me. “Is this true? Tell me this is a lie.”
“No, it’s not a lie, mum. I’m a werewolf.”
“Oh! Okay! How come?”
“I was turned by the boys when I got mated to them. When I started dating them, they bit me and I became a werewolf.”
“Let’s say I believe all these stories about being werewolves…”
I sighed. She didn’t believe us. I knew she would find it hard to believe. “They are not stories, mum.” I interrupted her. “Should I shift so you can see me turn into a wolf?”
She squeaked and shifted back as if she was afraid of me. I was hurt by her reaction but I quickly sucked it up. I wasn’t expecting her to take it easily.
“Can you?” She asked.
I nodded. “Yes, mum.”
She held up a hand. “Don’t try to shift. I’m fine. I don’t think I want to see you turn into a wolf. Thinking of it is freaking me out already. I can’t bear to see you as an animal. I might pass out and I really want to hold on to my pride.”
I sighed. “You don’t have to be afraid of me though, mum. I wouldn’t hurt you.”
She snorted. “I don’t know what to think of you at the moment, daughter.” She sighed, noting the sadness on my face. “I do not mean to hurt your feelings, daughter but it is what it is.”
I nodded. “I understand. I’m relieved though that you get to know of this secret of mine.” If I could get mum to come around, I could date the boys as freely as I wanted. Mum was the reason I was having a secret relationship and I was glad that it was finally coming to an end though I hated the awkward tension in the air.
“Why are you dating the three brothers though or mated to them as you say?”
I allowed Albert to talk. He would be in a better position to tell her that. He sighed as he turned to her. “It’s the prophecy and the curse when they were born. The boys can’t stay far away from one another and have to be together always to ensure their health. I was also told when they were born that they would all fall in love with the same lady. I’m sorry, dear, that it was your daughter that they picked. I was mad when I heard too. Trust me on that but as Jack already said, they aren’t blood siblings and I was told that they already knew one another from high school before we met.”
Mum stared, narrowing her eyes at him. “When were you going to tell me about this? Were you ever going to tell me about your secret of being a wolf? Was I ever going to know of my daughter dating your sons and turned into a wolf if I hadn’t walked in on them kissing? Is it until she has a child that looks like anyone of them?”
Albert shook his head. “Probably not. I wasn’t planning on telling you or Mia about my secret of being a wolf if not for my boys who fell in love with her.”
Mum’s lips quivered. “Does that mean I’ve been with a lie all along? Why weren’t you going to tell me?”
Albert sighed. “Have you seen the way you have been acting since you found out? You were even afraid of your daughter. I didn’t want to tell you because I was afraid that you would act this exact way. I didn’t want to see you looking at me with fear or hatred in your eyes. I want to keep the love you have for me shining forever in your eyes.”
Mum started to cry. “But that meant that all I loved was a lie.”
Albert shook his head. “It wasn’t a lie. I just didn’t tell you the whole truth. I’m still human. I’m still the man you fell for, Mia is still the daughter you know and we are the family you know. See?”
She stepped back when he tried to move closer to her. “I think I need some space to think. My head feels tight.” With that, she walked past us and ran outside.
She hadn’t gone far before we heard her crying.
